Summer by the Sea

Hi Friends!

As I mentioned in my previous posts, I am slowly working my way through the Splitcoaststampers over800+ sketch challenges in addition to inking up some of my older (and mostly retired) stamp sets.

This card was designed using the retired Stampin’ Up! Summer by the Sea stamp set along with a verse sentiment from the current Divinity Designs LLC set, Scripture Collection 9.

If you have not had a chance to check out the above challenge sites yet, I encourage you to do so- beautiful inspiration from all!

To create this card:

De-static a piece of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool, ink the Summer by the Sea image with Versafine™ Onyx Black ink, stamp onto the prepared cardstock, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Once the embossing has cooled, color the image with water based markers and watercolor pencils.  Use distress oxide ink to watercolor the sky and once satisfied with the coloring, die cut with a stitched rectangle die.

Mount onto a piece of black cardstock, trim close to the edge.

Emboss a piece of eggplant designer series paper and mount onto black cardstock for the background panel.  Lightly distress the edges and sand the embossing (I had this piece already embossed in my stash and discovered it during my organization this past spring).

Ink the verse sentiment from Scripture Collection 9 using Versafine™ Onyx Black ink, stamp onto the prepared cardstock, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Distress with brushed corduroy/vintage tea ink using a sponge and a texture stamp.  Die cut the sentiment with a stitched rectangle die, mount onto black cardstock and trim close to the edge.

Die cut the nautical paper with a stitched square die and hand trim the mustard paper, mount both onto black cardstock and trim close to the edge.

Arrange the layers onto the eggplant background (per the sketch), add the knotted hemp twine, the sentiment and mount the focal image with chipboard (or dimensional foam).

To finish off the card, use a clear glitter pen to add shimmer to the water and a sponge with distress ink to age the edges of the layers.

Stamp Sets: Summer by the Sea, Timeless Textures (retired Stampin’ Up!), Scripture Collection 9 (Divinity Designs LLC)

Ink/Mediums: Versafine™ Onyx Black , Stampin’ Write Markers-Crushed Curry, Elegant Eggplant, Dapper Denim, Night of Navy, Smoky Slate, Marina Mist; Tim Holtz® Distress Oxide- Broken China, Chipped Sapphire, Wild Honey, Picked Raspberry, Brushed Corduroy, Vintage Tea Archival Distress; Spectrum Noir™ Clear Glitter Pen

CC800_CC752 Sound of the Sea

Hi Friends!

I have been busy this week creating a few cards for the #800 Color Challenge at Splitcoaststampers(SCS).  Normally, the SCS Color Challenge consists of one set of colors but this week to celebrate the milestone of 800 challenges (wow!) they have six different color combos (one for each hostess).

I did not think I would have time to participate with all the combos but decided to make that a challenge for myself :-)  I was able to complete them all and will be posting each card in a separate post.

In order to save time (posting is so time consuming for me, lol!), I will be summarizing the creative instructions.  If you have any questions about any of the techniques or steps taken , please let me know in the comments.

This card uses the C800_CC752  Pacific Point, Daffodil Delight and Flirty Flamingo along with the dessert option of an embossing folder.

This color combination reminded me of summer so I decided to pull out an Artistic Outpost stamp and paired it with a verse sentiment from Divinity Designs, LLC.

The main image was stamped with a waterproof ink and watercolored using ink from the ink pads in the color challenge.

The image and sentiment were hand trimmed and matted onto cardstock before using the Splitcoaststampers SC412 Sketch for the layout (another one of my personal challenges is to make a card with every one of the SCS Sketch layouts- this sketch was from 2011).

I am also linking this card to the Hand Stamped Sentiments #343 Photo Inspiration Challenge (I was inspired by the beach theme as well as the seashells and ocean).

Stamp Sets: Sound of the Sea (Artistic Outpost), Scripture Collection 9 (Divinity Designs, LLC)

Paper/Cardstock: Whisper White, Flirty Flamingo, Pacific Point

Ink/Mediums: Stampin’ Classic Pads- Daffodil Delight, Flirty Flamingo, Pacific Point

Accessories/Tools: Gemini, Jr™, retired Square Lattice Embossing Folder, AquaPainter™, Heat Tool, 1 ¼” Pacific Point Striped Grosgrain Ribbon, Rhinestones

Thanks again for stopping by- I will be posting the remaining five cards shortly, I hope you can check back again soon!

TCC77 Woodgrain Flowers

Hi Friends!!

We are so excited to be back with new challenges at The Card Concept!! We took a break over the summer and while it was nice to have a break, I am thrilled to be back as part of The Card Concept Design Team!

For our #77 “Weathered Floral” Challenge, we have a gorgeous inspiration photo- I absolutely love all of the texture from the wood doors, the woven bag and the beautiful flowers (don't you?) so I decided to create a Shabby Chic Mixed Media card.

I also incorporated The Flower Challenge #12 Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge (Embossing, Distress Inks, Sentiment) and the Simon Monday “Stamp It!” Challenge into the design.

If you have not had a chance to do so, I hope you will find the time to check out the rest of the wonderful Design Team cards at The Card Concept as well as the entries at the other challenge sites- wonderful inspiration from all!

To create this card:

1).  For the background panel on the right, tap Tim Holtz® Distress Inks onto a craft mat, spritz lightly with water, press into a piece of coated white cardstock, lift up and continue to repeat the process with additional colors (I used pumice stone, hickory smoke and frayed burlap). I also used a layer of Frayed Burlap Distress Oxide Ink, layered a stencil over all of the background and spritzed with water, once that had dried, used the same stencil and applied Nuvo™ Silver Embellishment Mousse.  Additional texture was added with hickory smoke distress ink using the small splatter stamp from Timeless Textures (current Stampin’ Up!).  Quite a bit of layering (hard to see it all in the photo though, but I had fun)!

2). For the left hand background panel, I used a previously embossed piece of woodgrain designer paper, painted a layer of diluted white acrylic wash over the embossing to mimic the whitewash, dried with a heat tool and layered onto gray cardstock.

A close up of the background- right hand side
created with white cardstock
3). The flowers and leaves from the Bloom with Hope stamp set (retired Stampin’ Up!) along with the sentiment from the Scripture Collection 9 stamp set (current Our Daily Bread Designs) were stamped with archival black ink onto white cardstock and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  Once the embossing had cooled, the flower and leaves were watercolored with water-based markers, fussy-cut and once the ink had dried thoroughly, shimmer was applied to the petals with a clear glitter pen and white highlights were added with an extra fine paint pen.

4). The background pieces were layered onto gray cardstock and a piece of 1 ¼” gray grosgrain ribbon along with the white crochet lace was added (both from my stash) before mounting the entire panel onto the white card base.

5).The large floral blossom and sentiment were mounted with dimensional foam and the leaves were tucked behind the floral image.  Pearls were added to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets:  Timeless Textures, Bloom with Hope (both Stampin’ Up!), Scripture Collection 9 (Our Daily Bread Designs)

Ink/Mediums: Versafine™ Onyx Black Ink; Tim Holtz® Distress Ink- Pumice Stone, Hickory Smoke, Frayed Burlap,  Tim Holtz® Distress Oxide Ink- Frayed Burlap; Stampin’ Write Markers- Powder Pink, Sweet Sugarplum, Mint Macaron; Nuvo™ Silver Embellishment Mousse; Titanium White Acrylic Paint, Clear Glitter Pen, Extra Fine White Paint Pen

Cardstock/Paper: Whisper White, Basic Gray; retired Well Worn DSP

Accessories: Big Shot™, retired Woodgrain Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder, Memory Box™ Distressed Tula Designer Stencil, Sponge Dauber, Claritystamp™ Stencil Brush,  Embossing Buddy®, Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, 1 ¼” Dark Gray Grosgrain Ribbon, Pearls, White Crochet Lace

Matthew 22:37- Love the Lord Your God

Hi Friends!!

I had a chance to stamp this past Saturday evening and decided to create a Clean and Simple (CAS) card using the previously released Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBD) stamp sets, A True Friend, Chalkboard Fan Background and Scripture Collection 9 and the ODBD Small Bow Dies.

I just love the iris image in the ODBD A True Friend stamp set- it reminds me of my mother who has been with the Lord for 23 years and would have celebrated her birthday on Saturday...she just loved irises so I thought of my fond memories of her as I designed this card :-).

I incorporated a few of my favorite online challenges into the design- the Global Design Project #GDP061 Colour Challenge along with the Addicted to Stamps and More #219 CAS Challenge :-)

If you have not had a chance to check out either challenge site yet, I hope you will find the time to do so- great inspiration from all!

To create this card:

Ink the iris image from the ODBD A True Friend stamp set with archival black ink onto white cardstock, watercolor with a sweet sugarplum marker for the petals, emerald envy for the stem and basic gray for the stamens.

FYI- to watercolor the image, I "scribble" the initial color from the markers onto a craft mat, then lift the color with a water brush to watercolor the petals, etc. and follow up with ink directly from the marker to the image for the second and third layers, using the water brush to soften the edges :-)

Fussy cut the image and set aside.

Laying the ODBD Chalkboard Fan Background stamp face up on your table, ink sporadically with the emerald envy marker, spritz with water, use a paper towel to tap onto the stamp and remove some of the ink and lay a piece of white cardstock over the background stamp pressing with your fingers to ink the page.

Lift and dry the background with a heat tool before positioning and stamping the ODBD Scripture Collection 9 verse with archival black ink.

Trim the background panel, adhere to sweet sugarplum cardstock, trim again and mount onto black cardstock.

Mount the entire panel onto the white card base and add the fussy cut iris image with dimensional foam.

Die cut the ODBD Small Bow Dies from black cardstock, assemble the bow and add to the card front.

Use a clear glitter pen to add shimmer to the flower to finish off the card.

I had fun creating this quick card and hope I have inspired you to pull out your stamps this weekend!

Thanks again for taking the time to visit- hugs and have a blessed week, my friends!

Phil 4:8- Think About Such Things

Hi Friends!

I had fun stamping this past weekend and I decided to try an older technique, Joseph’s Coat (see the Splitcoaststamperstutorial here) for a few cards – what a fun technique!

I had tried the Joseph’s Coat Technique a few years ago and I wanted to create a fairly Clean and Simple (CAS) card so I decided to incorporate the Splitcoaststampers’ SC62 Sketch Challenge along with the CAS377 “Groovy Elements”, the Mix-Ability MIX162 “Time for the Primaries” and the USEIT2016 Challenges (the retired Fresh Vintage image has not seen ink in years :-)).

If you have not had a chance to visit the above Splitcoaststampers’ galleries yet, I encourage you to do so- gorgeous cards and inspiration from all!!

To create this card:

Use Sponge Daubers, apply Daffodil Delight, Pacific Point and Rose Red Classic Ink to a piece of Glossy White cardstock, blending the colors but leaving some of the true color as well.

Once the ink as dried, de-static with an Embossing Buddy® and stamp the medallion image from Fresh Vintage (retired SAB set) over the background (I tried to avoid overlapping but it was difficult :-)).

Apply Stampin’ Emboss® Clear Embossing Powder , heat set with the Heat Tool and allow the embossed images to cool.

Once cooled, use a Sponge Dauber (versus a brayer as in the tutorial) to apply Memento™ Tuxedo Black Ink over the images, applying multiple coats to achieve the darkness you desire.

Wipe off the excess ink with a paper towel and trim a piece to create the panel on the card.

Fold a piece of Extra Thick Whisper White cardstock in half (I used a 4 ¼” x 11” piece scored at 5 ½” and ended up trimming the final card to 3 ¾” x 5 ¼” to fit an envelope I had on hand).

Another view- I should have used the Embossing Buddy
a bit heavier in the center- oops! :-)
Stamp the verse sentiment from the Our Daily Bread Designs Scripture Collection 9 with Memento™ Tuxedo Black Ink directly onto the card front and adhere the Joseph’s Coat panel to finish off the card.

Quick and easy and I had so much fun with this technique that I created a second card with a large background stamp- I will post that one later this evening :-).

Stamp Sets: Fresh Vintage (retired Stampin’ Up! SAB set), Scripture Collection 9 (Our Daily Bread Designs)

Ink: Versamark™, Memento™ Tuxedo Black, Classic Ink- Daffodil Delight, Pacific Point and Rose Red

Paper: Extra Thick Whisper White, retired Glossy White

Accessories: Sponge Daubers, Embossing Buddy®, Stampin’ Emboss® Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Tool

Thanks again for taking the time to stop by-  hugs to all of you!

In His Word I Put My Trust

Hi Again Friends!

I wanted to create another fairly quick card using the Splitcoaststampers (SCS) TLC588 “Stencil Monoprint” Challenge (see details here and gallery here) along with the CAS379 “May Flowers” Challenge and the Just Us Girls #345 Photo Week Challenge.

This was a fun technique and I will have to try this again with some of my other stencils:-)

If you have not had a chance to visit the above challenge galleries yet, I encourage you to do so- gorgeous cards and inspiration from all!!

To create this card:

Using the SCS Stencil Monoprints tutorial (see here), apply Ranger® Tim Holtz® Mustard Seed, Scattered Straw and Fossilized Amber Distress Inks directly to the back of the Texture Flourish stencil from Memory Box™.

Lay a piece of Whisper White cardstock over the stencil and use your hand or a clean towel to rub the ink from the stencil onto the paper (I found this to be easier than flipping the stencil over onto my paper).

Use a Heat Tool to dry the ink, de-static the area for the sentiment with an Embossing Buddy®, ink the verse from Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBD) Scripture Collection 9 and heat emboss with Gold Embossing Powder.

Trim the panel and mount onto a piece of Crushed Curry cardstock, trim and mount onto the Extra Thick Whisper White card base.

Ink the flowers from Fragrance (ODBD) using Stampin’ Archival™ Basic Black Ink, heat set with the Heat Tool and color with Stampin’ Write Markers- Pink Pirouette, Flirty Flamingo, Melon Mambo, Pear Pizzazz, Always Artichoke and Crushed Curry.

Carefully fussy-cut the images and mount onto the card front (I used dimensional foam for the lower two blossoms).

Add Clear Wink of Stella® to the blossoms and use the Faber-Castell® Pitt Pen Gold and White Markers to add highlights to the flower centers.

Add the Pearls to the opposite corners to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets: Fragrance, Scripture Collection 9 (Our Daily Bread Designs)

Ink: Versamark™, Stampin’ Archival™ Basic Black ; Stampin’ Write Markers- Pink Pirouette, Flirty Flamingo, Melon Mambo, Pear Pizzazz, Always Artichoke and Crushed Curry ; Ranger® Tim Holtz® Mustard Seed, Scattered Straw and Fossilized Amber Distress Inks; Faber-Castell® Pitt Pen Gold and White Markers; Clear Wink of Stella®

Paper: Extra Thick Whisper White, Whisper White, Crushed Curry

Accessories: Memory Box™ Texture Flourish Stencil, Embossing Buddy®, Stampin’ Emboss® Gold Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Pearls

Thanks again for taking the time to visit- hugs to all of you!

Phil 4:8 "Think About Such Things" - A One Layer Floral Card

Hi Again Friends!

If you have not had a chance to visit the above challenge galleries yet, I encourage you to do so- fabulous cards and so much inspiration!!

Our Awana club year ends this week with our Award ceremony, so I created seven of this design (each a bit different) for each of my 5th and 6th grade girls.

We have had a wonderful year together and several of the girls have been with me for two years...I will miss seeing each of them every week and look forward to serving in Awana again next year - it is always hard to see the girls "move up" but I know that each one of these young ladies will be living for the Lord and that in itself, makes it a bit easier:-)

The design of this card is fairly simple to create- stamp the sentiment from Scripture Collection 9 (ODBD) with Stāz-On® Jet Black Ink onto a folded piece of Extra Thick Whisper White cardstock, mask the sentiment with sticky note paper,  stamp the flowers from the Fragrance stamp set (ODBD) with Stāz-On® Jet Black Ink (creating a mask for the flowers and repeat stamping), color the flowers with a variety of Stampin’ Write Markers and use an AquaPainter™ to watercolor and soften the markers.

Add the splashes of ink with the Smakin’ Acetate technique, draw a few lines with a Pitt Pen “B” Black Marker and finish off with Clear Wink of Stella®.

I have more details on each of the steps in a previous post of a similar card here.

Stamp Sets: Fragrance, Scripture Collection 9 (Our Daily Bread Designs)

Ink: Stāz-On® Jet Black, Rose Red, Wisteria Wonder; Stampin’ Write Markers- Always Artichoke, Pear Pizzazz, Pink Pirouette, Melon Mambo, Wisteria Wonder, Rich Razzleberry, Flirty Flamingo, Sweet Sugarplum, Blackberry Bliss, Hello Honey, Faber-Castell® B Black Pitt Pen Marker; Clear Wink of Stella®

Paper: Extra Thick Whisper White

Accessories: AquaPainter™, Paper for masking, Clear Envelope, Water Spritzer Bottle

Thanks again for stopping by!  I hope you have a great week and find time to be creative
