TCC205 Spring Has Sprung

Hi Friends!

Welcome to our #205 {Spring Has Sprung} Challenge at the The Card Concept!

I was inspired by the bluebirds and blossoms for my Clean and Layered Mixed card.

I love watching birds and bluebirds are definitely a sign of spring here in the Mid-Atlantic region.

We are looking forward to seeing what inspires your card from our inspiration photo! Will it be the overall theme, the birds and blossoms, the colors, textures or something else?

Those of you who follow my blog know that I have been trying to take the time to ink up some of my older stamps in my stash.

It has been several years since I have inked up the Birds & Blooms stamp set (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps) and I paired it with the retired Scripture Medley Five stamp set for the verse sentiment (Verve Stamps).

We are looking forward to seeing what inspires your card! Will it be the overall theme, the colors, items in the photo/textures or something else?

If you have not already visited us at The Card Concept, I hope you will find the time to do so.  Such gorgeous inspiration from the rest of my DT sisters!

To create this card:

On a piece of white cardstock, use a water brush to apply Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide ink to create clouds for the background (they are difficult to see in the photo).

Dry the panel with a heat tool before die cutting with a stitched rectangle die.

De-static the panel and stamp the verse sentiment with Versafine Onyx Black ink, , apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Mount the panel onto a piece of blue cardstock before adding to the white card base.

De-static a piece of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool, ink the floral image along with the two bluebirds with Versafine Onyx Black ink, stamp onto the prepared panel, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Once the embossing has cooled, color the images with colored pencils, distress inks and distress crayon.  Use an extra fine white paint pen to add accents to the bird’s eyes and floral centers,

Fussy cut all of the images and directly mount the floral image along with the smaller bird.  Add the larger bird with dimensional foam to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets: Birds & Blooms (Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps), Scripture Medley Five (retired Verve Stamps)

Inks/Mediums: Versafine Onyx Black,  Prismacolor Pencils- Blues, Reds, Pink, Greens; Tim Holtz Distress Inks- Chipped Sapphire, Fired Brick; Tim Holtz Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide, Tim Holtz Picket Fence Distress Crayon

Cardstock/Paper: White, Brilliant Blue (retired Stampin’ Up!)

Accessories/Tools: Gemini, Jr. , My Favorite Things- Stitched A2 Rectangle  STAX Set 1, Embossing Powder Tool, Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, AquaPainter™

Thanks again for taking the time to stop by! I hope you are inspired to create a card and join us for our #205 {Spring Has Sprung} Challenge at The Card Concept!  The deadline to play along is Monday, April 8th at noon EST.

Summer by the Sea- Praise the Lord!

Hi Friends!

I hope your summer is going well!  My hubby is continuing to recover from his bladder and prostate removal surgery (cystoprostatectomy)- it was a rough few weeks after the initial surgery, but we are praising the Lord that he is getting stronger with each passing day!  I am learning how to be an ostomy nurse :-)  and we are getting used to the "new normal" with the bag changes, etc.

In the meantime, I have had a chance to create a few cards, scrapbooks and journals as well as work on organizing my craft room, but have not had time to post to my blog or galleries.  I find that posting to my blog, etc. can take more time than creating, lol! I am thankful to have a moment to post a few cards this week.

As I mentioned in my previous posts, while I am still buying stamps and supplies, I am trying to focus on limiting my purchases and using what I already own.  This card was was designed using two retired stamp sets- the focal image from the Stampin’ Up! Summer by the Sea set and the sentiment is from the Verve Stamp set, Scripture Medley 5.

I also wanted to participate with a few online challenges and incorporated the Color Throwdown #554 Challenge and am also linking to the Simon Says Wednesday “Anything Goes” Challenge and the Just Add Ink #468 “Just Add “C” “ Challenge (“C”= Circle, Celery-color).

If you have not had a chance to stop by the above challenge sites, I encourage you to do so- wonderful inspiration from all!

To create this card:

1). Stamp the image using Versafine™ Onyx Black ink onto white cardstock, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.  Once the embossing has cooled, watercolor using ink from water-based markers, watercolor pencils and distress oxide ink (see the list of colors used below).

2). Die cut the image with a stitched circle die, mount onto another die cut from black cardstock (die cut with the same circle, split in half before layering).  Repeat the process with the sentiment using a rectangle stitched die, layer onto black cardstock and trim close to the edge.

3). Emboss a piece of kraft cardstock using a 3-D basketweave folder, mount onto black cardstock and trim close to the edge.  Layer the red and celery designer paper  (mounted onto strips of black cardstock), adhere to the basketweave background, add the seam binding strips and mount onto a white card base.

4). Mount the layered circle focal image with the sentiment onto the card front with dimensional foam and add the seam binding bow.

5). Finish off the card by using a white gel pen and add a button to the center of the bow.

TCC115 Trust in the Lord Medallon

Hi Friends!

In creating my Design Team card for The Card Concept #115 {Mosaic Madness} Challenge  I ended up designing three cards based on the inspiration photo.

This is the third design (the last two posts were card #1 & #2) and I was inspired by the medallions as well as the colors for this simple Classy and Elegant card.

I decided to use the medallion image from a retired Stampin’ Up! stamp set- Boho Backgrounds along with verse sentiment from the retired Scripture Medley 5 set(Verve Stamps).

As I mentioned before, I am trying to give my stamps that I already own some “love”- I have not inked the Boho Backgrounds image in approx. ten years (plus I have rarely used the Whimsy doily die at all) :-)

I will also be linking this card to the Simon Says Wednesday “Stitches” Challenge  (faux stitching on my card)  along with the Word Art Wednesday #386-#387 “Anything Goes” Challenge.

If you have not had a chance to visit us at The Card Concept or the other challenge sites yet, I hope you will find time to do so- terrific inspiration from all!

To create this card:

1). Score and fold a piece of 4.25” x 11” heavy white cardstock in half.  Using rectangle stitched dies, cut the largest rectangle from espresso cardstock, cut the next size from turquoise cardstock and cut the next smallest size from white cardstock.

2).  De-static the lower portion of the white cardstock panel with an embossing powder tool, stamp the verse sentiment using Versafine™ Onyx Black Ink, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with the heat tool.  Once the embossing has cooled, layer the three panels together and mount onto the white card base.

3). Die cut the round doily from espresso cardstock.  Due cut a stitched circle from designer paper and mount onto the center of the round doily.   Adhere the entire doily to the card front using dimensional foam.

4).  Using water-based markers, color the Boho Backgrounds medallion image and stamp onto white cardstock.  Cut out with a circle die, press the entire circle onto a Versamark™ ink pad, apply clear embossing powder over the entire image and heat set with a heat tool.  Repeat the process a few times to create a clear coat over the colored image.  Die cut another circle (just a bit larger than the image) from espresso cardstock and mount the embossed medallion image onto the espresso circle.

5).  Die cut two of the flourish shapes from turquoise cardstock, add to the back of the layered circle and mount onto the card front with dimensional foam.

6).  Add a few rhinestones to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets:  Boho Backgrounds (retired Stampin’ Up!), Scripture Medley 5 (retired Verve Stamps)

Ink/Mediums: Versafine™ Onyx Black, Versamark™,  Stampin’ Write Markers- Crushed Curry, Early Espresso, Tempting Turquoise, Pumpkin Pie

Cardstock/Paper: Whisper White, Early Espresso, Tempting Turquoise; retired Sweater Weather designer series paper

Tools/Accessories: Big Shot™,  Doodled Doily Die (Whimsy Stamps), My Favorite Things™ Dies- Stitched Rectangle A2 Set 1 & 2, Stitched Circle; Spellbinders™ Flourish Dies, Sizzix™ Circle Dies, Embossing Buddy®, Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Rhinestones

Thanks again for taking the time to visit!  I hope I have inspired you to create your own card based on our {Mosaic Madness} photo and link up to our gallery at The Card Concept- we would love to see your interpretation!! The challenge is open until Monday, May 27th at noon (EDT).
