Admired, Respected, Loved

Hi Friends!

I am having fun this week creating cards using some of my older retired stamp sets, paper and ribbons.

With Father's Day approaching, I wanted to create a few masculine cards and decided to combine two retired stamp sets from Stampin’ Up!- the moose image from the Walk in the Wild set and the sentiment is from The Wilderness Awaits.

I enjoy playing along with online challenges and will be linking this card to The Male Room #187 “Ribbon or Twine” Challenge,  the C.R.A.F.T. #722 “Masculine” Challenge and the Simon Says Wednesday “Masculine” Challenge.

If you have not had a chance to visit the above challenge sites yet,  I hope you will find time to do so- fabulous inspiration from all!

To create this card:

Heat emboss the moose image as well as the sentiment using Versafine Onyx Black ink and clear embossing powder.

Once the embossing for the moose image has cooled, watercolor the moose image using distress oxide inks and die cut with a stitched square die.

Mount the die cut square onto a piece of black cardstock and trim close to the die cut.

Die cut the sentiment with a fishtail banner die (die cut two additional fishtail banners from black cardstock and layer behind the embossed sentiment).

Emboss a piece of woodgrain designer paper (approx.4” x 3 ½”) with a woodgrain embossing folder and distress the edges.

Adhere the embossed panel onto a piece of black cardstock.

Trim a piece of designer paper to approx. 4” x 2 ¾” and adhere to the lower portion of the panel.

Add a strip of 1” black grosgrain ribbon to the card panel, wrap the ends behind the panel before adhering to a white card base.

Add a few pieces of looped green satin ribbon to the right hand side of the layered moose image.

Adhere the moose and sentiment to the card front using dimensional foam to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets: The Wilderness Awaits, Walk in the Wild (both retired Stampin; Up!)

Ink/Mediums: Versafine Onyx Black. Tim Holtz Distress Oxide- Broken China, Brushed Corduroy, Ground Espresso, Mowed Lawn

Cardstock/Paper: White, Black, misc. Woodgrain and Green Designer Paper (not sure of the manufacturer)

Accessories/Tools: Gemini, Jr, MFT Stitched Square Dies, Fishtail Sentiment Banners Dies (Stamp Simply), Woodgrain Embossing Folder (retired SU!). Embossing Powder Tool, Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Distressing Tool, 3/8” Green Satin and 1” Black Grosgrain Ribbon (from my stash)

Thanks again for taking the time to visit- I hope all of you have a blessed week!

TCC157 Three Decoys

Hi Friends!

Welcome to The Card Concept #157 {Vacation Time} Challenge!

For those of you who are not familiar with The Card Concept Challenge, we are a bi-weekly challenge that uses an inspiration photo for you to create a card.

You can choose one card-making style and/or a combination of styles, the choice is yours!  Plus, our Design Team of ten ladies create a card to inspire you.

I absolutely love our inspiration photo- so many elements to choose from for sure!  I was inspired by the texture of the woodgrain and that sweet little mallard duck near the canoe to create a simple Mixed Media card.

My husband and I love to drive through the mountains, especially Shenandoah National Park!  While we are unable to camp and hike due to health issues, this inspiration photo reminds me of those times and that we need to go again soon, lol!

As many of you know, I enjoy participating with challenges and will be linking to the Watercooler Wednesday #WWC317 Heidi’s Challenge: All Things Masculine and The Male Room #151 Dads and Grandads Challenge.

If you have not had a chance to visit The Card Concept, or the other challenge sites yet, I encourage you to do so- fabulous inspiration from all!

To create this card:

Emboss a piece of woodgrain cardstock (approx. 4” x 3”) with a woodgrain embossing folder, lightly sand with a sanding black and distress the edges.

Distress the edges of a piece of olive-green designer paper (approx. 4” x 3”).

Add the distressed olive-green paper to the top of a 4 ¼” x 5 ½” piece of black cardstock, layer the embossed woodgrain panel on the bottom (overlapping the green panel a bit).

Add a strip of 1” black grosgrain ribbon to cover up the raw edges (wrapping the ends behind the panel) and mount the panel onto a white card base.

Ink the I/O Three Decoys stamp set with Versafine™ Onyx Black ink, stamp onto a piece of white cardstock and heat set with a heat tool.

Color the image with watercolor pencils (using a water brush to soften the pencil and create the watercolor).

Tap a bit of Tim Holtz™ Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink onto a glass mat and use the water brush to create the sky.

Fill in the “moon” with Frost White Shimmer Paint (I used the water brush for this as well).

Dry the colored image with a heat tool and die cut with a rectangle stitched die.

De-static the lower left-hand portion of the panel with an embossing powder tool.

Stamp the verse sentiment from the retired Verve Stamp set, Scripture Medley 4 using Versafine™ Onyx Black ink onto the prepared panel, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Die cut a larger rectangle from black cardstock.

To finish off the card, mount the duck decoy panel onto the die-cut black panel and adhere to the card front with dimensional foam (or chipboard).

Stamp Sets: Three Decoys (Impression Obsession Stamps – IO Stamps), Scripture Medley 4 (retired Verve Stamps)

Ink/Mediums: Versafine™ Onyx Black Ink, Watercolor Pencils- Derwent, Stampin’ Up!, etc. – Olive Green, Espresso, Curry, Gray, Orange; Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink, Frost White Shimmer Paint

Paper/Cardstock: Whisper White, Basic Black, retired Woodgrain Designer Series Paper (Stampin’ Up!), misc. designer series paper (olive)

Tools/Accessories: Gemini, Jr., Woodgrain Embossing Folder (retired Stampin’ Up!), Stitched Rectangle A2 STAX Set 1 & 2 (My Favorite Things), Heat Tool, Embossing Buddy™, Clear Embossing Powder, 1” Black Grosgrain Ribbon, Distressing Tool, Sanding Block

Thanks again for stopping by!  We hope you will have the time to create a card based on our inspiration photo and join us at The Card Concept! The challenge is open until June 21st at noon EST.

Land of the Free, Home of the Brave

Hi Friends!

I am still celebrating Independence Day!  This card was another one that I designed using the Stamp Simply Patriotic Bundle Trio (stamps sets- Old Glory, Patriotic Sentiments along with the coordinating Patriotic Stars & Stripes Die).

To create this card:

Using Versafine™ Onyx Black Ink, stamp the USA image and sentiment onto white cardstock.

Color the images with watercolor pencils and water-based markers.

FYI- My coloring on the sentiment went a bit outside of the lines due to frayed marker tips- oops! So I used an extra fine black marker to create a slight shadow to cover up the mistake....the actual sentiment from the set stamps so well- time to buy new markers, lol!

Use the coordinating die to die cut the USA image and cut an additional two more dies from white cardstock.  Layer behind the colored image and add dimensional foam (or, use chipboard), set aside.

Create the sentiment banner by trimming and cutting flag ends by hand.  Mount the sentiment onto red cardstock, trimming to match the banner ends.

Emboss a piece of white cardstock with the swirled embossing folder, trim and mount onto red cardstock.

Add the 1” red satin ribbon strip, wrapping the ends behind the panel.  Mount the layered sentiment with dimensional foam or chipboard.

Die cut stars from red and navy cardstock along with silver foil.  Adhere the sentiment to the card front and add the stars around using dimensional foam/chipboard.

Mount the USA image to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets: Old Glory, Patriotic Sentiments (Stamp Simply)

Ink/Mediums: Versafine™ Onyx Black, Derwent™ and Stampin’ Up! Watercolor Pencils- Reds and Dark Blue/Navy; Stampin’ Write Markers- Real Red, Night of Navy

Cardstock/Paper:  Whisper White, Real Red, Night of Navy, Silver Foil

Accessories: Gemini, Jr.™, Swirls and Stars Embossing Folder (Darice™), Patriotic Stars and Stripes (Old Glory) Dies,  AquaPainter™, 1” Red Satin Ribbon

Thanks again for stopping by- I will be sharing one more patriotic card soon! Hugs and I hope all of you have a fabulous week!

In All Your Ways Acknowledge Him

Hi Friends!!

I hope all of you had a great weekend!   I had a chance to spend some more time in my craft room today and am sharing an easel card box that was designed for my nephew using some of my retired stash and stamps.

For the construction of the easel card/drawer box,  I followed the assembly instructions from the YouTube video from Paper Hoarder Disorder and will be using the drawer for a gift card (my nephew is working as a mechanic/service writer).

This project did take a few hours to create but it was fun!  I loved using the various dies, papers and stamps for a one of a kind card/gift.

The truck and verse images were heat embossed and the rest was mainly layering, dry embossing and assembly.

If you have not had a chance to visit the above challenge sites, I hope you will take the time to do so- wonderful inspiration from all!

Stamp Sets: Timeless Classic (Impression Obsession), Scripture Medley 1 & 2 (Verve Stamps)

The Wilderness Awaits

Hi Friends!!

I am having so much fun using some of my neglected stamps!  When I pull out a stamp set that I have not inked up in a while, I have decided to ink several of the images so I can create more than one card from the set.

This weekend, I am sharing one of the cards that I designed with the retired Stampin’ Up! The Wilderness Awaits stamp set.  I love the naturalistic images in this set and especially this elk image.

I am also going back and trying to create a card for each of the Splitcoaststampers Sketch Challenges (currently in #777 and I have only used 1/3 of the sketches so far).  Yes, this is a lofty goal, I know.

With that in mind, I incorporated the Splitcoastampers (SCS) SC121 Sketch for the layout of this card (the SCS Sketches do not expire and this sketch is from March 2011).

If you have not had a chance to do so, I hope you will visit the above challenge sites- wonderful inspiration from all!

To create this card- Ink the elk image from The Wilderness Awaits with Versafine™ Onyx Black Ink and stamp onto white cardstock, apply clear embossing powder and heat with a heat tool.

Once the embossing has cooled, watercolor the image with water-based markers, distress ink and distress oxide ink.  Die cut the panel with a stitched rectangle die, mount onto chocolate chip cardstock and trim close to the edge.

Die cut a piece of designer paper with a larger rectangle stitched die, mount onto chocolate cardstock, trim close to the edge.
Die cut another piece of designer paper with a larger stitched rectangle die, mount onto a piece of chocolate cardstock, trim close to the edge and mount onto a white card base.

Adhere the medium rectangle layer (per the sketch) and add the stamped focal image rectangle with dimensional foam (or chipboard).

Heat emboss the sentiment onto white cardstock (as in the first step for the elk image), die cut with a smaller stitched rectangle die, mount onto chocolate cardstock and trim close to the edge.

Trim a piece of chocolate cardstock and create the banner ends by hand.  Split the trimmed piece and mount onto the back of the sentiment layer.

Add the two brass brads to the edges and mount onto the card front.

Using scraps of chocolate cardstock, hand trim to create a photo corner and add a brass brad to the center.

Mount onto the upper left-hand corner to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets: The Wilderness Awaits (retired Stampin’ Up!)

Ink/Mediums: Versafine™ Onyx Black, Stampin’ Write Markers- Soft Suede, Smoky Slate, Gray Granite; Tim Holtz® (TH) Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide, TH Distress- Gathered Twigs, Ground Espresso, Tea Dye

Cardstock/Paper:  Whisper White, Chocolate Chip, retired Cozy Comfort and Sweater Weather Designer Series Paper (all Stampin’ Up!)

Accessories: Big Shot™, My Favorite Things Dies- Stitched Rectangle A2 STAX Set 1 & Set 2, Blueprints 20; Embossing Buddy®, Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, AquaPainter™,  Mini Brass Brads

Thanks again for taking the time to stop by- I hope all of you have a blessed weekend/week!
