Masking Tape- A Fun Way to Create Backgrounds

Hi Stampers!!

In honor of World Card Making Day, I am taking some time to create a few cards and relax in my craft room :-).

I decided to try the Clean and Simple (CAS) style (I know, this is not my normal style and is so difficult for me but I keep trying :-))  and use the CQC209 CoulourQ Challenge colors, the CAS(E) This Sketch! #48 Sketch Challenge and the Splitcoaststampers WT446Squares Challenge.

Again, I hope that you will find the time to visit each site and see all of the different designs and inspiration!

To create these cards:

Both cards use the Masking Tape Technique- cut/tear pieces of masking or painter’s tape and put the sticky side down onto your Classic Ink Pad and rub the top of the tape to “ink up” the bottom.   Place the tape onto the Whisper White cardstock and rub the top of the tape to transfer the ink onto the paper.

For the background on both cards, place the masking tape with the Cool Caribbean Classic Ink on Whisper White cardstock, rub the top of the tape and peel off to transfer the ink, follow with a layer of Daffodil Delight Classic Ink and finally Pumpkin Pie Classic Ink.

To create the “Friend” card:

Over the Masking Tape background described above, repeatedly stamp The Off the Grid stamp with Real Red Classic Ink and add a bit of distressing with the Color Spritzer Tool and the Real Red Stampin’ Write marker.

Using Real Red Classic Ink, stamp the floral spray from Thoughts and Prayers and add a few splotches with the smaller Gorgeous Grunge stamp.

Use the 1 ¼” Square Punch to punch out a few images and mount onto squares of Real Red cardstock (punched using the 1 3/8” Square Punch).

Stamp the sentiment from Postage Collection using Real Red Classic Ink onto Cool Caribbean cardstock, mount the panel onto Real Red cardstock.

Add the floral squares using Stampin’ Dimensionals® and mount the entire panel onto the Whisper White card case (embossed with the Big Shot™ and the Chevron Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder.

Add a few Pearls to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets:  Thoughts & Prayers, Postage Collection, Off the Grid, Gorgeous Grunge
Ink: Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie, Real Red, Cool Caribbean (retired), Stampin’ Write Real Red Marker
Paper: Whisper White, Real Red, Cool Caribbean (retired)
Accessories: Big Shot™, Chevron Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder, 1 ¼” & 1 3/8” Square Punches, Color Spritzer Tool, Pearls

For the second card:

Repeat the Masking Tape background as described above.   Ink the Off the Grid stamp with Real Red Classic Ink and repeatedly stamp over the Masking Tape background.
Ink the images from Clockworks using Real Red Classic Ink and repeatedly stamp in a random pattern.

Use the Simply Scored Tool to add a scored line at the top (this is optional- I put the score line in to help delineate the squares in the sketch)…

Round the corners using the Envelope Punch Board or a Corner Rounder, mount onto Real Red cardstock (also round the corners), add the Vellum sentiment along with the Real Red Color Dots.

Use the Big Shot™ with the Chevron Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder to emboss the Whisper White card base along with a piece of Cool Caribbean cardstock.

Mount the Cool Caribbean cardstock onto Real Red (I used a few scrap strips on the edges).  Adhere this strip to the Whisper White card base and add the focal image using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.

Stamp Sets:  Clockworks, Off the Grid

Ink: Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie, Real Red, Cool Caribbean (retired), Stampin’ Write Real Red Marker

Paper: Whisper White, Real Red, Cool Caribbean (retired), Vellum

Accessories: Big Shot™, Chevron Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder, Simply Scored Scoring Tool, Real Red Candy Dots

Thanks again for taking the time to stop by- I hope you have a great weekend and find some to time to be creative!
