Home for the Holidays

Hi Friends!

Today I am sharing another fun Mixed Media Christmas card using  a few Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps- Home for the Holidays, Texture Tiles 1, Texture Tiles 4 and Scene Silhouettes: Trees.
For the layout I used the #503 Mojo Sketch Challenge and am also linking this card to the  Word Art Wednesday #362-#36.3 ”Anything Goes”  Challenge and the Hand StampedSentiments #303 Inspiration Challenge (I was inspired by the snow scenes and the green colors).

If you have not had a chance to visit the above challenge sites or the SNSS Blog/FB Page yet, I encourage you to do so- gorgeous inspiration from all!

Also, don’t forget- Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps is continuing to celebrate their 11th birthday this month! This week’s special is 11% off Sentiment, Fall and Christmas stamps plus with any net order of $60 (US), you can choose one of four top selling stamp sets as your November Stamp of the Month-hurry, though- both offers are good through November 30th!

To create this card:

1). De-static a piece of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool, stamp the truck image and sentiment from Home for the Holidays with Versafine™ Onyx Black Ink, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.  Watercolor the truck with distress ink along with water-based markers and die cut the sentiment with a stitched circle die. Fussy-cut the truck image and set aside.

2).  Die cut a white circle with a stitched circle die for the scene behind the truck, mask the snow bank area, ink the pine tree image from Scene Silhouettes: Trees with olive ink, stamp along the edge to create the tree line, remove the mask and use a blue ink to sponge a bit of shadows on the snow.  Watercolor the sky area with berry ink, die cut with a stitched circle die and mount onto a circle die cut from gray cardstock and then again onto dark blue cardstock.  Add a bit of splatter with the splatter image from Texture Tiles 1 using dark blue ink and use a Sharpie® Extra Fine White Paint Pen to add snowflakes to the scene.
3). On a 4” x 5 ¼” piece of white cardstock, ink the grid image from Texture Tiles 1 with dark blue ink and stamp repeatedly to create the pattern.  Lightly spritz with water, mount onto gray cardstock, trim and mount onto dark blue cardstock.

4). Create the plaid horizontal strip using white cardstock and stamping the plaid image from Texture Tiles 4 first with dark blue ink, then again with olive ink.  Die cut the horizontal strip with a stitched die and create the corners by hand.  Add the corners and insert a silver brad in the center of each.

5). Layer the blue hemp twine, wrapping the ends behind the panel and mount the card front onto the white card base.

6). Add the die cut/layered circles onto the card front dimensional foam, mount the bow with the green button and add a bit of shimmer to the truck with a silver glitter pen.

The Card Concept #103 {Holiday Treats}

Hi Friends!

I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend and Thanksgiving!  We enjoyed visiting with our family and definitely ate too much :-)  The last two months have been celebrations galore- two weddings (twin nieces both married- one in October and the other in November), Thanksgiving, surprise birthday parties and more!!

Now it's time for The Card Concept #103 {Holiday Treats} Challenge and what a fun inspiration photo we have for you!  The various shades of red and green inspired me to create a Shabby Chic/Mixed Media card!  I needed a surprise birthday card for a family member who loves cardinals and thought that this color combination would be perfect!

I am also linking this card to the Simon Says Wednesday "Anything Goes" Challenge.

Just a reminder that the Card Concept is a bi-weekly challenge that has an inspiration photo along with a suggestion of design styles that you can choose from to create your card- Clean and Simple, Clean and Graphic, Clean and Layered, Shabby Chic, Freestyle Collage, Classy and Elegant and Mixed Media (or you can combine several styles for your own style).

If you have not had a chance to visit us at The Card Concept or the Word Art Wednesday  challenge site yet, I hope you will find time to do so- gorgeous inspiration from all!

To create this card:

1). De-static two pieces of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool, stamp the cardinal image from Cardinal (Our Daily Bread Designs) with archival black ink onto one piece and the verse sentiments from Birthday Doily (Our Daily Bread Designs) onto the other.  Apply clear embossing powder and heat set with the heat tool.  Once the embossing has cooled, fussy cut the cardinal image, die cut the sentiment with a stitched circle die and hand trim the birthday greeting into a banner.

2). Using ink from water-based markers, watercolor the cardinal image (I scribble some of the ink from the marker onto a silicone mat and use a water brush to watercolor).  Once you are satisfied with the watercolor, use the markers directly to add shadows and depth.

3). Trim a piece of olive designer paper to approx. 4” x 5 ¼”, use a distressing tool to distress the edges and mount onto a piece of espresso cardstock.

4). Layer a strip of white crochet lace and espresso satin ribbon over the background panel and wrap the edges of the ribbon behind the card front.  Mount the card front onto a white card base.

5). Die cut a stitched square from white cardstock and mount onto a piece of espresso cardstock.  Trim the espresso layer close to the die cut edge and mount onto the card front with dimensional foam.

6). Mount the banner greeting and die cut circle sentiment onto espresso cardstock.  Layer both onto the card front using dimensional foam in the area that is not layered onto the die cut square.

7). Adhere the cardinal image with dimensional foam. Add a few pearls to the corner of the square as well as the sentiment.

8). To finish off the card, use an extra fine white paint pen to add a few white highlights to the pine cones as well as the cardinal’s eye.

Stamp Sets: Cardinal, Birthday Doily (Our Daily Bread Designs)

Ink/Mediums: Versafine™ Onyx Black, Stampin’ Write Markers- Cherry Cobbler, Poppy Parade, Basic Black, Early Espresso, Mossy Meadow; Sharpie® Extra Fine White Paint Pen

Cardstock/Paper: Whisper White, Early Espresso (Stampin’ Up!); misc. olive designer paper (not sure of manufacturer)

Tools/Accessories:  Big Shot™, My Favorite Things Stitched Square STAX and Stitched Circle STAX Dies, Circle Dies (retired SU!), Embossing Powder Tool, Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Distressing Tool, 5/8” Early Espresso Satin Ribbon, White Crochet Lace Trim, Pearls

Merry Christmas with Christmas Silhouettes

Hi Friends!

I hope all of you are having a great month so far! We are preparing for Thanksgiving this week and I am still working on creating my Christmas cards (I am so far behind this year :-)).

I decided to create a card with a bit of a non-traditional color scheme and used several sets from Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps- Christmas Silhouettes, Home for the Holidays and Texture Tiles 1.

If you have not had a chance to visit the above challenge sites or the SNSS Blog/FB Page yet, I encourage you to do so- fabulous inspiration from all!

Also, don’t forget- Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps is continuing celebrating their 11th birthday this month with different sales each week!   There is a sitewide sale of 25% off minimum orders of $25 for the 11th Birthday/Black Friday sale (good thru 11/26) plus you get to choose your November Stamp of the Month from one of our top 4 stamp sets (for any net US order of $60)- good through November 30th!

To create this card:

1). De-static a piece of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool, stamp the reindeer image from Christmas Silhouettes with Versafine™ Onyx Black Ink, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.  Once the image has cooled, fussy-cut the image (I used my Brother Scan ‘n Cut machine with a .04 border).

2). De-static another piece of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool, stamp the sentiment from Home for the Holidays with Versafine™ Onyx Black Ink, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.  Once the image has cooled, die cut with a stitched circle die and mount onto a piece of black cardstock. Add a bit of splatter with the distress oxide inks noted in the step below.

3). For the background panel- on a silicone mat, tap a bit of twisted citron distress oxide ink onto the mat, lightly spritz with water and press the white cardstock into the ink.  Repeat the process with a bit of peeled paint distress oxide ink and when you are satisfied with the background, heat with a heat tool to dry.

4).  Die cut a stitched square die from the center of the panel on a diagonal and set aside.  On the main background panel, add a bit of splatter using the splatter image from Texture Tiles 1 using black soot distress ink.

5). On the die cut square, stamp the script image from Texture Tiles 1 with black soot distress ink (with the square on a diagonal).  Mount onto a piece of black cardstock and trim close to the edge.

6). Mount the background panel onto a piece of black cardstock, trim close to the edge  and mount the entire panel onto the white card base.

7). Add a layer sentiment circle directly to the card front.

8). Mount the diagonal layered/stamped square onto the card front with dimensional foam (this should cover the opening that was originally cut with the square die and no one will ever know).  Add the looped silver cord before mounting the fussy-cut reindeer image with dimensional foam.

9). Finish off the card with a few rhinestones near the sentiment.
Ink/Mediums: Versafine™ Onyx Black, Tim Holtz® Distress Oxide- Peeled Paint, Twisted Citron; Tim Holtz® Black Soot Distress

The Card Concept #102 {Homestyle Holiday}

Hi Friends!

I love this beautiful inspiration photo and was inspired by the reds, greens as well as the black gingham pillow to create a Shabby Chic/Mixed Media card using Home for the Holidays and Texture Tiles 4 stamp sets from Sweet and Sassy Stamps.

If you have not had a chance to visit us at The Card Concept or the other challenge sites yet, I hope you will find time to do so- wonderful inspiration from all!

To create this card:

1). De-static a piece of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool, stamp the main door image from Home for the Holidays with archival black ink, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with the heat tool.  Watercolor the image with distress inks and die cut with a stitched oval die.  Mount onto another oval die cut from black cardstock and set aside.

2). Ink the buffalo plaid image from the Texture Tile 4 stamp set with black distress ink, stamp onto another piece of white cardstock.  Line up and repeat the pattern until the entire panel is completely filled, trim and mount onto a piece of black cardstock.  Wrap a piece of red and black checked soft grosgrain ribbon over the panel, wrapping the ends behind the back and mount onto the white card base.

3). Ink the wreath, dog and the sentiment from the Home for the Holidays stamp set with black archival ink, stamp onto another piece of white cardstock,  apply clear embossing powder and heat set with the heat tool. Once the embossing has cooled, fussy cut the dog and wreath image and watercolor the wreath with water-based markers. Create a banner with the sentiment using a trimmer and punch, layer onto black cardstock.

4). Mount the main focal image onto the card front with dimensional foam.  Add the fussy-cut dog and wreath along with the sentiment with dimensional foam.

5). Finish off the card by adding the large plaid bow and use a shimmer pen to add glitter to the wreath and door.

We are also celebrating by highlighting previous stamp sets and I will be sharing a card designed with three previously released sets: Christmas Silhouettes, Texture Tiles I,  and Texture Tiles 4.

I was inspired by the Just Us Girls #464 Inspiration Challenge (love the white with the red) and will also be linking this card to the Simon Says Wednesday “Anything Goes” Challenge.

If you have not had a chance to visit the above challenge sites or the SNSS Blog/FB Page yet, I encourage you to do so- fabulous inspiration from all!

2). Create the plaid banner by lining up and stamping the buffalo plaid image (Texture Tiles 4) with Versafine™ Onyx Black Ink onto cherry cardstock. Die cut the panel with a stitched banner die (FYI- I split the banner in half to create a longer length).

3). Repeatedly stamp the snowflake image from Christmas Silhouettes onto a piece of white cardstock with Versamark™ ink, apply white embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool. Trim the panel for the background and watercolor a bit of diluted hickory smoke distress ink over the snowflakes before mounting onto a piece of black cardstock.

4). Die cut a piece of black cardstock with a horizontal stitched strip die, split the die in the center (to spread to the width of the card- this will be covered up by the main focal image), adhere to the card front with the stamped buffalo plaid banner.  Adhere a strip of 1 ¼” Cherry Grosgrain Ribbon (in the center of the horizontal strip die) before mounting the entire panel onto a white card base.

5). Die cut a circle of white cardstock with a stitched circle die, stamp the music image from Texture Tiles I with hickory smoke distress ink and mount onto a black cardstock circle.

6). Stamp the sentiments from Christmas Silhouettes using Versafine™ Onyx Black Ink onto white cardstock, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with the heat tool. Once the embossing has cooled, trim the panels and create the banner points with a punch (or by hand), mount each onto black cardstock and create matching banner points.

7). Mount the “Merry Christmas” sentiment directly onto the card front at the top, adhere the stamped musical die cut circle in the center with dimensional foam and mount the “and Happy New Year” sentiment with dimensional foam at the bottom of the circle.

8). Add the fussy cut reindeer with dimensional foam to the card front.

9). Adhere a large 1 ¼” Cherry Grosgrain bow (I used hot glue) along with a white cardstock snowflake for the center and a large rhinestone.  Adhere a metal snowflake charm below the lower sentiment and add a few Nuvo™ Grey Mist crystal drops to the snowflakes in the background as well as the musical area to finish off the card.

Ink/Mediums: Versafine™ Onyx Black, Versamark™, Tim Holtz® Hickory Smoke Distress Ink, Nuvo™ Grey Mist Jewel Drops

Cardstock/Designer Paper: Whisper White, Basic Black (all Stampin’ Up!)

Accessories/Tools: Big Shot™, MFT Dies- Stitched Horizontal Strip, Stitched Circles, Jumbo Stitched Fishtail Banner; Circle Dies (retired SU!), Embossing Buddy®, Clear and White Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Martha Stewart™ Snowflake Punch, Large Rhinestone, 1 ¼” Cherry Grosgrain Ribbon (from my stash), Snowflake Charm (retired SU!), Hexagon Punch (for banner points)
