SC667 Sending Holiday Hugs

Hi Friends!

Woohoo! It’s time for the weekly sketch at Splitcoaststampers! Carey is our sketch artist this week and I decided to flip the SC667 sketch and create a winter card using Holiday Hugs from Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps.

I also incorporated the Splitcoaststampers Alphabet H- #DD8ABC8H Challenge (H=Hat, Hugs, Holiday) and the A Bit More Time to Craft #54 “Anything Goes” Challenge into the design.

If you have not had a chance to visit the challenge sites yet, I hope you will do so- such fabulous inspiration from all!

To create this card:

1). Die cut the oval shapes for the sketch from white and black cardstock using a stitched oval die set (two smaller ovals and one larger- a set of white and black of each).  FYI- I use the same size oval for both the colors of cardstock and split the black oval in half to adhere behind the white oval to create a frame (I mounted on the smaller ovals once I stamped the sentiments- see next step).

2). Ink the sentiment from Holiday Hugs with Versafine™ Black Onyx Ink, stamp the “Sending” onto one of the smaller ovals and the “Holiday Hugs” on the other small oval die cut.  Apply clear embossing powder, heat set with the heat tool and once the embossing has cooled, mount the split black oval behind the sentiment oval to create the frame.

3). Ink the snowman image from Holiday Hugs with Versafine™ Black Onyx Ink, stamp onto another piece of white cardstock, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with the heat tool.  Once the embossing has cooled, use water-based markers to color the image. Fussy-cut around the edges and set aside.

4). Ink the snowflakes from Holiday Hugs with Versafine™ Black Onyx Ink, onto white cardstock, apply clear embossing powder, heat set with the heat tool and once the embossing has cooled, fussy-cut around the edges (I need to purchase a Brother® Scan-n-Cut™ machine- it is on my wish list but I do not mind fussy-cutting).

5). Trim a piece of Whisper White cardstock to 4” x 5 ¼”, emboss with a snowflake embossing folder, mount onto a piece of Basic Black cardstock and adhere to the white card base.

6). Die cut a piece of scrap designer paper for the vertical layer of the sketch- I used a stitched straight die along with a wavy snowdrift stitched die.  Mount onto the card front and add the die cut/stamped sentiment ovals and main oval.

7). Mount the fussy-cut snowman image with dimensional foam, add the fussy-cut snowflakes and adhere a few rhinestones to the center of the snowflakes.

8). Use a clear glitter pen to add shimmer to the stars as well as the snowman “wings” to finish off the card.
