Rather Be On My Farm

Hi Friends!!

I hope all of you are having a great weekend so far!!  Saturday is my turn to highlight a card at the Artistic Outpost blog and I wanted to share the card with you here as well.

This Mixed Media card was designed using the new Harvest, Seed Packets Background and Grunge Elements stamp sets from the Artistic Outpost Spring 2016 Release at Our Daily Bread Designs and I decided to use a modified version of the Retiform Technique (see the Splitcoaststampers’tutorial here) along with the Vintage Watercolor technique.

To create this card:
Fold a 4 ¼” x 11” piece of Extra Thick Whisper White cardstock in half and using a Sponge Applicator, apply Ranger® Tim Holtz® Antique Linen Distress Ink over the card front.

Using the Retiform Technique, decide where you would like your “grid” lines and use a piece of scrap paper to cover up the card front as you sponge one side of the “grid” with Ranger® Tim Holtz® Shabby Shutters Distress Ink and the other with Ranger® Tim Holtz® Vintage Photo Distress Ink (re-positioning the paper along the edge as you continue to create your retiform grid).

Once you are satisfied with your grid area, use sticky note paper to mask off the areas as you stamp the Seed Packets Background using Stāz-On® Jet Black ink (randomly stamping different portions of the Seed Packets images on the different retiform sections).

Use a Speedball® Elegant Writer® to add areas of ink and an AquaPainter™ to blend the ink for the Vintage Watercolor technique.

Once the watercolor has dried, ink the grid image from Grunge Elements using Ranger® Tim Holtz® Tea Dye Distress Ink, add a bit of white Gesso® to “age” the background and sponge the edges with Ranger® Tim Holtz® Walnut Stain Distress Ink.

On two additional pieces of Whisper White cardstock, sponge Ranger® Tim Holtz® Antique Linen and Vintage Photo Distress Ink, dry the ink with the Heat Tool, de-static the paper with an Embossing Buddy® , stamp the young farmer image and sentiment images from Harvest using Versamark™ ink, apply Stampin’ Emboss® Black Embossing Powder and heat set with the Heat Tool.
Close-up to show the retiform images :-)

Trim the farmer image, mount onto Basic Black cardstock, trim again and mount onto Whisper White cardstock, trim once more and mount onto Basic Black cardstock.

Apply Ranger® Tim Holtz® Antique Linen Distress Ink to the frame around the young farmer to "age" the paper and stamp the grid image from Grunge Elements with Ranger® Tim Holtz® Tea Dye Distress Ink.

Mount the farmer and sentiment images to the card front using dimensional foam to finish off the card.

Ink Stāz-On®  Jet Black, Versamark™, Ranger® Tim Holtz® Antique Linen, Shabby Shutters, Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain and Tea Dye Distress Ink; Speedball® Elegant Writer; White Gesso®

SUO99 Thinking of You

Hi Stampers!

It’s that time again, time for the SU-Only SUO99 Summer Days: Ocean, Beach and Patriotic Challenge.  I hope you will take the time to check out the rest of the Design Team's projects- they are fantastic!!

I decided to try the Retiform Grid Technique and modified it a bit (here is the link to the tutorialat Splitcoaststampers).

I hope you will have the time to join in our challenge using Stampin’ Up! Only products- we would love to see your creation in our gallery :-)

To create this card:

Ink the lobster image from By The Tide using Memento™ Tuxedo Black ink onto Whisper White cardstock.

Create an oval mask using the Big Shot™ with the Oval Collections Framelits™.

Mask around the lobster using the piece of Whisper White cardstock that has the oval cut out from the center (allowing the lobster to be in the center with the oval).  Using a Sponge Dauber, apply Pool Party Classic Ink followed by Tempting Turquoise Classic Ink and Night of Navy Classic Ink.

Remove the large mask and re-mask the lobster with the oval piece cut from the Whisper White cardstock in the steps above.  Using a piece of scrap paper (as straight edges around the oval) create the grid using Sponge Daubers to apply Pool Party Classic Ink, followed by Tempting Turquoise Classic Ink and Night of Navy Classic Ink for each of the sections.

Ink the remaining images from By The Tide using Memento™ Tuxedo Black ink and stamp into the various grids.    Using Memento™ Tuxedo Black ink , ink the Gorgeous Grunge splatter stamp to add a bit of distressing.

Color the lobster and shrimp images using the Stampin’ Blendabilities™ Cherry Cobbler markers and add a few highlights to the images using the Chalk Marker.

At this point, the card could be finished as a one layer card but I decided to modify a bit.

Use the Big Shot™ with the Oval Collections Framelits™ to cut out the lobster and the same size oval from Cherry Cobbler cardstock.  Also cut a larger oval from Whisper White cardstock, layer the lobster image onto the larger Whisper White oval , split the Cherry Cobbler oval in half and adhere behind the larger oval to allow a bit of the Cherry Cobbler to show.

Cut along the grid lines for the remaining portion of the background and adhere to a piece of Whisper White cardstock in the same order as originally stamped (I had to trim a bit to allow the white to show between the grids).  Trim the panel and mount onto to a piece of Whisper White cardstock, trim again and mount onto a piece of Cherry Cobbler and adhere onto the Whisper White card base.

Add the lobster oval focal image using Stampin’ Dimensionals® to the center of the card.

Stamp the sentiment from Wetlands using Memento™ Tuxedo Black ink onto Whisper White cardstock and punch out using the Large Oval Punch.  Punch two additional ovals using the Large Oval Punch from Cherry Cobbler cardstock and overlap to create a frame for the sentiment.

Cut a small piece of 1 ¼” Burlap Ribbon, trim off the bound edges and pull apart the pieces of the ribbon to create the “net” appearance.

Adhere the Burlap and sentiment to finish off the card.
