The Card Concept is a
bi-weekly challenge that has an inspiration photo along with a number of design
styles that you can choose from to create your card- Clean and Simple, Clean
and Graphic, Clean and Layered, Shabby Chic, Freestyle Collage, Classy and
Elegant and Mixed Media.
I love our
inspiration photo but have to admit, I created four cards for this challenge
before I was somewhat satisfied (that is my Type A personality for you- lol!) :-) I was inspired by the flowers and the spring
colors- I will share the other cards created throughout the rest of this week.
I hope you will have
a chance to check out the rest of the Design Team projects and link your own
project to our gallery to join in on the fun!
To create this card:
Using a sponge brush,
apply Gesso on a piece of Whisper White cardstock, allowing it to dry (I like
to use a Heat Tool to speed up the drying process).
Once the background
has dried, apply various Ranger® Tim Holtz® Distress Stains – Salty Ocean, Tattered
Rose and Worn Lipstick to a craft mat (spritzing with water) and pulling the
Gesso background through the ink. Pick
up the paper and rotate to allow the inks to drain down the panel, drying with
the Heat Tool and repeating until the background is the color that you desire).
Ink the floral stamp
from Poppy Stamps using Memento™ Tuxedo Black Ink and stamp onto the
background. Watercolor the image using
Tim Holtz® Distress Markers- Shaded Lilac, Seedless Preserves, Mowed Lawn and
Gathered Twigs and an AquaPainter™ brush. Use a Stampin' Up! Crumb Cake marker to add a few shadows.
Once the floral image
has dried, apply Mod Podge® over the image to use as a mask.
Once the Mod Podge®
layer has dried, ink the background stamp, Dictionary using Memento™ Tuxedo
Black Ink and using your fingers to apply pressure to the paper, stamp randomly
and partially across the background panel.
Carefully wipe off the excess ink from the flowers and add a few
highlights using a Faber-Castell White Pitt Pen marker.
Using the Balzar
Designs® Mini Punchenella stencil, apply Studio 490® Wendy Vecchi® Crackled
Texture Paste to the upper left and lower right hand corners of the panel and
heat with the Heat Tool to speed up the drying process.
Tear the lower right
hand corner of the paper and curl the edges with your finger.
Mount the panel onto
a piece of Pretty In Pink Designer Series Paper (DSP) , trim and apply Studio
490® Wendy Vecchi® Crackled Texture Paste (using the Balzar
Designs® Mini Punchenella stencil) to the lower right hand corner. Once dry, distress the edge by hand.
Mount this panel onto
a piece of Basic Gray cardstock, trim and mount onto the Whisper White card
base.
Add the White Tea
Lace Paper Doily to the upper right hand corner (1/4” of the doily) and create
the paper bow using the Bow Builder Punch from Basic Gray cardstock.
Stamp the sentiment
using Memento™ Tuxedo Black Ink onto Whisper White cardstock, trim and create
the banners using the Hexagon Punch. Mount
to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.
Adhere the Antique
Brad to the center of the paper bow to finish off the card.

Wow, Julie, another gorgeous work of art! I love all the mixed media you've got going here. I never thought of adding ModPodge to create a resist mask! I'll have to give that a try! Thanks so much for sharing this one too with us at the Paper Players this week!
