Artistic Outpost- Harvest with Seed Packets and Grunge Elements

Hi Friends!

Today I am sharing this Mixed Media card on the Artistic Outpost (AO) blog using the new AO Spring 2016 Release stamps, Harvest, Seed Packets Background and Grunge Elements.

I am linking this card to the Splitcoaststampers’ MIX1 “Yin Yang” Challenge- see details here and gallery here  (the very first Mix-Ability Challenge from January 2013- thankfully, there is no time limit with the SCS Challenges :-)).

I hope you have a chance to visit us at the Artistic Outpost blog as well as the Splitcoaststampers challenge gallery – fabulous inspiration from all!

To create this card:

De-static a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock with the Embossing Buddy®, stamp the sentiment from Harvest with Versamark™ ink onto the prepared cardstock and heat emboss with Stampin’ Emboss® Black Embossing Powder.

Once the embossing powder has cooled, ink the Grunge Elements splatter stamp with Ranger® Tim Holtz® Vintage Photo Distress Ink and stamp over the sentiment.

Trim the sentiment panel, mount onto Basic Black cardstock, trim once more and set aside.

For the background panel, ink the Seed Packets Background stamp with Stāz-On® Jet Black Ink and stamp onto Crumb Cake cardstock.

Tear the edges by hand and distress the paper using a Sponge Dauber with Ranger® Tim Holtz® Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

Mount the background panel onto a piece of distressed Basic Black cardstock and add the stenciling using a honeycomb stencil with Crackle Texture Paste.

Once the paste has dried, apply Tim Holtz® Distress Collage Crazing Medium over the background and set aside to dry.

Once the background has dried, add the 1 ¼” Black Grosgrain Ribbon on a diagonal and adhere the strips of Burlap Ribbon in the center (the glue will be hidden by the focal image).

Mount the entire panel onto the Whisper White card base and lightly sponge Ranger® Tim Holtz® Tea Dye Distress Ink around the edges to age the white card base.

Stamp the young farmer with Stāz-On® Jet Black Ink and stamp onto Crumb Cake cardstock and use the Faber-Castell® White Pitt Pen Marker to add highlights to the image.

Trim and mount onto a piece of Basic Black cardstock and apply Tim Holtz® Distress Collage Crazing Medium over the entire image.

To finish off the card, mount the focal image panel along with the sentiment using dimensional foam.

Stamp Sets: Harvest, Seed Packets Background, Grunge Elements (Artistic Outpost)

Ink/Mediums: Stāz-On® Jet Black, Faber-Castell® White Pitt Pen Marker, Ranger® Tim Holtz® Vintage Photo and Tea Dye Distress Ink; , Ranger® Tim Holtz® Distress Collage Crazing Medium, Crackle Texture Paste

Hi Friends!!

Woohoo!  It is time for The Card Concept #TCC46 "Warm Your Heart" Challenge and we are so thrilled to be back for 2016!

I love the inspiration photo and was inspired by the hot chocolate, the texture of the mittens and, of course the warm, luscious colors.

Just a reminder that the Card Concept is a bi-weekly challenge that has an inspiration photo along with a number of design styles that you can choose from to create your card- Clean and Simple, Clean and Graphic, Clean and Layered, Shabby Chic, Freestyle Collage, Classy and Elegant and Mixed Media.

Also, if you have not had a chance to do so, I hope you will take the time to visit us at The Card Concept and check out the rest of our Design Team samples as well as the Just Us Girls and Splitcoaststampers' sites- fabulous inspiration from all!

To create this card:

Using the Memory Box™ Texture Flourish Stencil, use a palette knife to apply Finnabair® ArtExtravagance Copper Crackle Texture Paste over a piece of Blushing Bride Designer Series Paper (retired from a hostess pack years ago).

Allow the crackle paste to dry (I used a Heat Tool, carefully, to speed up the process).

Add Ranger® Tim Holtz® Picket Fence Distress Stain to tone down the bright copper color, also add a bit of Gesso® (I used my finger to spread).

Distress the edges of the crackle texture panel with a Distressing Tool,  mount onto a die-cut piece of Early Espresso cardstock  and add the 1” Dark Chocolate Satin Ribbon with the Ivory Crochet Lace (wrapping the edges of the ribbon around the back).

Mount the entire background panel onto a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock, trim and mount onto the Early Espresso card base.

Trim a piece of the retired Sending Love DSP to size, color with a Spectrum Noir™ DR3 Alcohol Marker to darken the DSP and mount inside a die cut rectangle from Early Espresso cardstock.

Add the Dark Chocolate Triple Ribbon bow to the top of the tag element and mount onto the card front using dimensional foam.

Ink the coffee mug, steam and chevron images from the Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps (SNSS), PickMe Up using Early Espresso Classic Ink and stamp onto Very Vanilla cardstock.

Use the coordinating Pick Me Up Die Set with the Big Shot to cut out the images.

Color the heart shape on the coffee mug using the Spectrum Noir™ DR3 Alcohol Marker and add the steam image and Rhinestone to the coffee mug.

Mount the stamped images to the card front using dimensional foam.

Stamp the sentiment from Pick Me Up (SNSS) with Early Espresso Classic Ink onto Very Vanilla cardstock, trim and create the banner points with the Hexagon Punch, mount onto Early Espresso cardstock (using the Hexagon Punch to create the points).

Mount the layered sentiment onto the card front with dimensional foam to finish off the card.

TCC41 Happy Anniversary

Hi Friends!!

It is time for the new Card Concept #41 "Autumn Neutrals" Photo Inspiration Challenge- love all of the texture for inspiration!

I also decided to incorporate the Splitcoaststampers’ Mix-Ability MIX130 “Crack Me Up”  as well as the Free For All F4A271 "Getting Hitched"  and the HYCCT1507 Jacqueline's "Trash Cancer" Challenges (T=Texture Paste, R= Roses, A=Acrylic Paint, S= Satin Ribbon, H- Hexagon Punch)   into the design.

The Card Concept is a bi-weekly challenge that has an inspiration photo along with a number of design styles that you can choose from to create your card- Clean and Simple, Clean and Graphic, Clean and Layered, Shabby Chic, Freestyle Collage, Classy and Elegant and Mixed Media.

Hope you can find some time to gather your supplies together and come join in on the fun!!

To create this card:

Apply Gesso® to a piece of retired Designer Series Paper (DSP)- this is one way to use up patterns that you are not too fond of – allow to dry.

Add a few drops of Soft White Acrylic Paint to a Gelli® Arts Printing Plate, brayer over the plate and add a drop of Soft Black Acrylic Paint (using a brayer to gently blend with the white paint).

Use an old credit card to draw lines in the paint (gently so you do not mar the Gelli® Arts Printing Plate).  Lay the prepared DSP onto the plate and lift the paper.

Allow the paint to dry, apply Wendy Vecchi® Crackled Texture Paste over the panel, allow this layer to dry, apply Mod Podge® with a foam brush and allow to dry to the touch.

Using Stāz-On® Jet Black Ink, stamp the En Francais background sporadically to the background.

Use the Distressing Tool to distress the edges and add the gray crocheted lace along with the gray satin ribbon.  Mount the panel onto the 5 ½” x 5 ½” Whisper White card base.

Ink the Tim Holtz® Papillon stamp using Stāz-On® Jet Black Ink onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock, ink a portion of the Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBD) Chalkboard Vine Background stamp using a Stampin’ Write Going Gray Marker and stamp over the sentiment.

Trim the panel and mount onto Basic Gray cardstock.  Apply Gesso® with your finger lightly over the panel and allow to dry.

Use the Big Shot™ with the Spellbinders™ Timeless Rectangle Die to cut out the frame from a piece of Basic Gray cardstock.  Mount the sentiment panel onto the die cut frame and adhere the sentiment to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.

Stamp the sentiment from the Graphic45® Time to Flourish#2 stamp set using Stāz-On® Jet Black Ink onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock, create the banner using the Hexagon Punch, mount onto a piece of Basic Gray cardstock (creating banner points with the Hexagon Punch as well) and apply Gesso® to the sentiment with your finger.

Mount the sentiment to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.

Use the Big Shot™ with the MFT Royal Rose and Mini Rose Dies to cut roses from Whisper White cardstock- roll up the flowers and mount onto the card front with leaves created from Basic Gray cardstock with the Martha Stewart® Leaf Punch.  Add a bit of Gesso® to the roses and leaves.

Adhere a few Pearls to the corner to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets:  En Francais, Time To Flourish (G45), Papillon (TH)

Ink: Stāz-On® Jet Black, Acrylic Paint- Soft Black, Soft White

Paper: Whisper White, Basic Gray, retired DSP

Accessories: Big Shot™, MFT Royal Rose and Mini Royal Rose Dies, Spellbinders Timeless Rectangles Die, Gelli® Arts Printing Plate, Embossing Buddy®, Gesso®, Punches- Hexagon, MS Leaf, Crackle Texture Paste, Gray Satin Ribbon, Gray Crochet Lace, Pearls

CC551 When I Pray, You Answer Me!

Hi Friends!!

I am so excited to the Guest Designer for the Color Challenge at Splitcoaststampers for the month of October!!  I love participating in the Splitcoaststampers weekly challenges and am honored to be part of this fabulous Design Team for October!

This Mixed Media card was created for this week’s CC551 Color Challenge (dessert option to use florals)- actually this was a panel that I thought I would have to trash but saved by adding a few layers of paint and distress ink.

I just love this Scripture and it has meant so much to me over the years and especially this past year.

As many of you know, my husband is undergoing chemo for a rare non-Hodgkins lymphoma and this past week, his test results came back favorable!  We know that this is due to the prayers of many on our behalf and the Lord has answered us!  No, his cancer is not gone and no, there is  not a cure but yes, the Lord has allowed my husband to be on target and his blood numbers to be where the doctor would like them to be at this stage of the chemo- Praise the Lord!!

Again, I hope you will take the time to visit the CC551 gallery to check out the rest of the fabulous Design Team creations as well as wonderful entries in the challenge gallery- great inspiration from all!

To create this card:

Apply Gesso® using the serrated edge of a plastic knife to create texture on a piece of cardstock, and once the Gesso® dries, apply a few drops of Soft White along with Light Village Green Folk Art® Acrylic Paint over the panel.  Spread with a paint brush and allow to dry (I use a Heat Tool to speed up the drying process).

Once the panel is dry, apply Ranger® Tim Holtz® Peeled Paint Distress Stain, lightly spritz with water, spread a bit with your fingers and dry with the Heat Tool.

Lay the honeycomb stencil over
Another view to show dimension
the background panel and apply Wendy Vecchi® Crackled Texture Paste with a palette knife- carefully heat with the Heat Tool to dry.

Once dried, apply more Ranger® Tim Holtz® Peeled Paint Distress Stain along with Victorian Velvet Distress Stain over the stenciled area, dry with the Heat Tool.

Once this layer is dry, ink the retired Script background stamp from Stampin’ Up! using Stāz-On® Jet Black Ink and randomly stamp onto the background panel.

Trim the panel and stitch onto a piece of So Saffron cardstock.
Add the piece of retired Afternoon Tea DSP to the lower part of the card front and stitch to the card front.

Add the crochet lace and 1” So Saffron Grosgrain Ribbon strip and mount the panel onto the card base.

Ink the Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBD) verse from Scripture Collection 2 onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock.

Cut out using the Big Shot™ with the ODBD Stitched Ovals Die and add a bit of distressing with the large splatter stamp from Gorgeous
Close-up to show some of the texture :-)
Grunge using Ranger® Tim Holtz® Old Paper Distress Ink as well as a bit of Victorian Velvet Distress Stain.

Mount the sentiment oval onto the card front using dimensional foam.
Create the roses from Blushing Bride and So Saffron cardstock using My Favorite Things™ (MFT) Royal and Mini Royal Rose Dies, use the Crimper Tool to add distressing, roll the flowers up and adhere the centers with adhesive (I prefer Hot Glue).

Create the leaves from Pear Pizzazz cardstock with the Martha Stewart Leaf Punch and add the roses with the leaves to the card front using Hot Glue.

To finish off the card, add a few Pearls to the corner as well as to the oval Scripture layer.

Stamp Sets: Scripture Collection 2 (ODBD), Gorgeous Grunge, Script background (retired)- both Stampin’ Up!

Ink: Stāz-On Jet Black, Ranger® Tim Holtz® Peeled Paint and Victorian Velvet Distress Stain, Ranger® Tim Holtz® Old Paper Distress Ink

Paper: Whisper White, Blushing Bride, So Saffron, Pear Pizzazz, retired Afternoon Tea DSP

Accessories: Big Shot™, ODBD Stitched Ovals Dies, MFT Royal and Mini Royal Rose Dies,  Martha Stewart Leaf Punch, Gesso®, Palette Knife, Folk Art® Acrylic Paint- Soft White and Light Village Green, Crackle Texture Paste, 1” So Saffron Grosgrain Ribbon, Crochet Lace, Pearls

TCC39 To Everything There is A Season

Hi Friends!!

Woohoo!!  It is time for The Card Concept Challenges to resume and this card was created for #39 Photo Challenge!  I love the blues and the daisies in this fun photo and used those for my inspiration :-)

I also incorporated the Splitcoaststampers' F4A264 "Baby Pinks and Blues" Challenge (blue only, of course) along with the WT529 "It's About Time Challenge :-)

I hope you can find some time to gather your supplies together and come join in on the fun!!

To create this card:

Apply Gesso® to a piece of Whisper White cardstock and allow to dry (it dries fairly quickly but you can use the Heat Tool to speed up the drying process).

Start layering color using Gelatos® (Bubblegum and Metallic Blueberry), Ranger® Tim Holtz® Distress Stains- Salty Ocean, Chipped Sapphire, Broken China, Peacock Feathers and Picket Fence along with water (spritzing as you go), drying with the Heat Tool between layers, adding Wendy Vecchi® Crackled Texture Paste with the Mini Harlequin Stencil (allowing the paste to dry) and adding more Distress Stains to create the background.

Once you achieve the desired effect for the background, apply Frost White Shimmer Paint to portions as well as using a baby wipe with the Mini Punchenella stencil to remove some of the ink in areas.

Trim the panel, mount onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock, trim again and add the clock charm with a brad, the crocheted lace trim along with the 3/8” Midnight Muse Stitched Ribbon.

Mount the panel onto the Midnight Muse card base and use your finger to apply Gesso® over some of the stenciling and edges of the card.

Stamp the daisy image three times using Stāz-On® Jet Black Ink onto Whisper White cardstock, color the flowers with Stampin’ Write Markers- Hello Honey and Sahara Sand and “fussy-cut” the daisies.

Stamp the verse from the Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBD) God’s Timing using Stāz-On® Jet Black Ink onto Whisper White cardstock, cut out with the Big Shot™ and the MFT Die-namics™ Blueprints 20 Die (also cutting another die the same size from Midnight Muse cardstock), trim the top of the die to size and adhere the Midnight Muse layer behind the sentiment.

Mount the sentiment layer along with the daisies to the card front using dimensional foam and add the Pearls to the corner of the verse sentiment to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets:  Bloom with Hope (retired hostess), God’s Timing (ODBD)

Ink: Stāz-On® Jet Black, Ranger® Tim Holtz®  Distress Stains- Salty Ocean, Chipped Sapphire, Broken China, Peacock Feathers, Picket Fence; Gelatos®- Bubblegum, Metallic Blueberry; Frost White Shimmer Paint

His Eye Is On The Sparrow- A Mixed Media Card for Two Challenges :-)

Hi Stampers!!

Sorry I have not posted in a few days – I have been creating cards for the upcoming 2015 Dare to Get Dirty Week at Splitcoaststampers!

This year I will be hosting one of the DTGD challenges for the very first time and only Fan Club Members are allowed to see all of the challenge particulars and participate (see details here on becoming a Fan Club Member).

The yearly membership fee helps to offset the cost of maintaining the Splitcoaststampers website, so if you are not already a Fan Club Member, I hope you will consider joining (no, I do not receive commission, but for all of the gallery inspiration, free tutorials, etc. that Splitcoaststampers provides to our art community, it is well worth less than a penny a day to become a Fan Club Member :-)).

In the meantime, while I had some of the Mixed Media supplies on my craft table, I decided to create a card for the Mixed Media Monthly Card Challenge #13 “Blue” along with the Splitcoaststampers Free For All F4A282 “Anything That Flies” Challenge (see details here and gallery here).

Again, I hope you will take the time to visit the above sites- fabulous Design Team creations as well as gorgeous galleries and inspiration from all!

This card was created using Gesso® over a piece of Stampin’ Up! retired DSP as the background “base”, applying layers of Gelatos®, Ranger® Tim Holtz® Distress Stains and Adirondack® Alcohol Inks as well as Crackle Texture Paste with Stencils.  Keep applying layers until you are satisfied (I am a messy Mixed Media artist so if you are like me, you fingers will become "blue" as well as the background- lol!)...
Add the crochet lace, ribbon, stamped bird and digital sentiment along with a few Pearls and you are done :-)

Stamp Sets: Choose Happiness, Script (retired background stamp), Word Art Wednesday (digital sentiment)

Ink: Stāz-On Midnight Ink, Island Indigo; Gelatos®,  Ranger® Tim Holtz® Distress Stains and Adirondack® Alcohol Inks

Paper: Whisper White, Elegant Eggplant, Island Indigo, Mossy Meadow, Perfect Plum; retired SU! DSP (patterned covered with Gesso®)

Accessories: Gesso®, Heat Tool, Big Shot™, MFT Royal Mini Rose Dies, Flourish Stencil, Crackle Texture Paste, Frost White Shimmer Paint, Crochet Lace, MS Leaf Punch, Hexagon Punch, 3/8” Perfect Plum Taffeta Ribbon, 5/8” Satin Ribbon, Pearls

Thanks again for taking the time to stop by- it is such an encouragement to me!  Have a wonderful day, my friends!
