John 14:6 I Am the Way, The Truth and The Life- Three Challenges in One!

Hi Stampers!!

I wanted to create a Mixed Media card using the gorgeous pastels for this week’s Our Daily Bread Designs ODBDSLC233 Color Challenge and decided to use the Splitcoaststampers SC526 Sketch Challenge (see details here and gallery here) and the Simon Says Monday Challenge “A is for” (in this case, April Flowers) :-)

Again, I hope you will take the time to visit the above sites- the Design Team creations as well as galleries provide so much inspiration!

To create this card:

Use a foam brush to apply Gesso® to a piece of Whisper White cardstock and allow the panel to dry (or you can use a Heat Tool to speed up the drying process).

Once dried, apply Ranger® Tim Holtz® Distress Stains- Milled Lavender, Shaded Lilac and Stormy Sky to a craft mat, spritz with water, lay the panel face down into the stain and lift up, twist and turn to allow the stain to spread onto the prepared panel, dry with the Heat Tool and repeat the process several times to build up the layers of stain.

Once you are satisfied with the layers, ink the Chalkboard Fan background stamp with Wisteria Wonder Classic Ink and stamp over the panel.

Ink the background stamp again with Island Indigo Classic Ink and randomly apply the background to the panel, dry the ink with the Heat Tool and trim the panel to approx.. 4” x 5 ¼”.

Mount the finished panel onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock, trim and mount onto the Wisteria Wonder card base.

Trim a piece of retired  Flirtatious Specialty Paper to approx. 1 ½” , use the Big  Shot™  to emboss  the strip with the retired Lacy Brocade Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder.

Mount the embossed strip onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock, lightly sand with the Sanding Block and adhere to the card front.

Stamp the Chalkboard-John's image onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock using Wisteria Wonder Classic Ink.  Trim around the image and mount onto another piece of Whisper White cardstock to create a frame.

Add the pearls by the yard to the bottom of the verse panel and corners (a friend of mine recently gave me these pearls from her stash and I thought they could be used as strands on the card- what do you think?  I know I have some of these in my stash as well and hope they can be incorporated into future projects :-))…

Mount the verse panel onto the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.

Create the rolled flowers using the Big Shot™ with the My Favorite Things (MFT)  Royal Rose and Mini Royal Rose dies using Bashful Blue and Wisteria Wonder cardstock.

Crimp the die cut flowers with the Crimper Tool before rolling up and adhering in the center with adhesive (I prefer to use Hot Glue).

Use the Martha Stewart (MS) Leaf Punch to create the leaves from Island Indigo cardstock and adhere along with the roses (again, with Hot Glue) to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets: Chalkboard Fan, Chalkboard-John's (both Our Daily Bread Designs)

Ink: Island Indigo, Wisteria Wonder; Ranger® Tim Holtz® Distress Stains- Milled Lavender, Shaded Lilac, Stormy Sky

Paper: Whisper White, Island Indigo, Wisteria Wonder, retired Bashful Blue; retired SU! Flirtatious Specialty Paper

Accessories: Big Shot™, retired Lacy Brocade Textured  Impressions™ Embossing Folder, MFT Royal Rose and Mini Royal Rose Dies, MS Leaf Punch, Gesso®, Foam Brush, Pearls by the Yard

Thanks again for taking the time to stop by- it is such an encouragement to me!  Have a blessed Sunday, my friends!
