Sailing on the High Seas with The Captain

Hi Friends!

I had a chance to create a card this week using the Artistic Outpost stamp sets, The Captain, Ephemera Backgrounds and Grunge Elements along with the Vagabond Treasures Collection 6x6 Paper Pad and the ODBD Custom Dies- Pierced Squares and Lattice Background (all items are available from Our Daily Bread Designs).

I love participating with online challenges and incorporated the Sketch Saturday Challenge #461  (using the #401 Sketch) along with the Try It On Tuesday “Transport 04/25” Challenge and the My Time To Craft #344 “Sequins orButtons” Challenge.

If you have not had a chance to check out the Artistic Outpost blog or the other challenge sites yet, I encourage you to do so!  Inspiration is posted throughout the week on the AO Blog and the challenge galleries have wonderful samples as well!

To create this card:

1). Ink the ship image from The Captain  with archival black ink and stamp onto vanilla cardstock.  Immediately re-ink the same image with vintage photo distress ink and stamp over the initial image (I used my MISTI® to align the image).

2). Heat set the ink and then use a water brush to “watercolor” the distress ink over the image, adding additional watercolor with rusty hinge and walnut stain distress ink.

3). Die cut and emboss the image with the ODBD Pierced Squares Dies , mount onto espresso cardstock and trim close to the edge.

4). Sponge the same distress inks over the edges, stamp the Ephemera Backgrounds image and the large splatter image from Grunge Elements with walnut stain distress ink.

5). Die cut and emboss a piece of vanilla cardstock with the ODBD Lattice Background Die, sponge vintage photo and walnut stain distress ink over the die cut to “antique” the paper.

6). Layer onto espresso cardstock, add the dark brown twine strips along with the bow and mount the panel onto the white card front.

6). Cut the strips for the side from the Vagabond Treasures Collection 6x6 Paper, mount onto espresso cardstock and adhere to the card front using dimensional foam.

7). Add the focal image to the card front with dimensional foam.

8). Add the twine bow to the card front and mount the button to the center to finish off the card.

Thanks again for taking the time to stop by and visit- hugs and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Eiffel Collage - Live, Laugh, Play

Friends!

Today I am sharing this card on the Artistic Outpost blog and wanted to share with you here as well.  I decided to combine a few Artistic Outpost stamps along with ODBD Blushing Rose Collection 6x6 Paper Pad to create a vintage Mixed Media card and incorporated the Sunday Stamps #150 "Banner Love Take Two" Sketch Challenge  along with the Addicted to Stamps and More #237 "Make Your Mark" Challenge into the design.

To create this card:

1). Ink the Eiffel Collage background stamp with embossing ink and stamp onto white cardstock.  Apply black embossing powder, heat set and once the embossing cools, fussy cut the main circle floral element.

2). Water color the image using water based markers, distress inks and stains and use an extra white paint pen to color the image.

3). On a piece of polka dot pattern paper from the Blushing Rose Collection Paper, use a flourish stencil and apply black soot distress ink with a stencil brush.  Apply picket fence distress stain over the entire panel, ink and stamp the Ephemera Backgrounds postage image and the Grunge Elements splatter image using archival black ink.

4). Create the banner using a piece of the green pattern paper from the Blushing Rose Collection and distress both the banner and background panel before mounting both onto the black card front.

5). Mount the fussy cut focal image panel using dimensional foam.

6). Ink the sentiment from The Golf Club with embossing ink, stamp onto black cardstock, apply white embossing powder and heat set with the heat tool.  Carefully hand trim the sentiment apart and mount onto the card front with dimensional foam to finish off the card.

Thanks again for taking the time to stop by and I hope I have inspired you to create a project this week! Hugs and I hope you have a wonderful Easter weekend!

Dreaming of the Boundless Sea

Hi Friends!

I hope all of you are having a great week so far!  I had a chance to play around with the January 2017 Artistic Outpost Release stamps, dies and paper again this week and decided to create a vintage style card using the Mojo Monday #483 Sketch Challenge.

If you have not had a chance to visit us at the AO Blog yet or the Mojo Monday Challenge site, I encourage you to do so- gorgeous inspiration is posted throughout the week from all of my AO Design Team sisters as well fabulous inspiration weekly from the Mojo Monday DT and their gallery!

To create this card:

1). Ink the young man image from AO The Captain with archival black ink onto a piece of vanilla cardstock and add distress inks (I used vintage photo, walnut stain and tea dye) to age the paper.  Trim the image, add a bit more distressing with the large splatter stamp from AO Grunge Elements and mount the image onto black cardstock, trimming close to the edge.

2). Cut two pieces of the AO Vagabond Treasures Collection 6x6 Paper Pad (per the sketch) and mount onto black cardstock, trimming close to the edge.

3). On another piece of vanilla cardstock, ink the AO Ephemera Backgrounds ledger stamp with archival black ink, stamp on an angle, mask off the edge and continue to layer this stamp to fill the entire panel.  Add the anchor and compass image from AO The Captain stamp set along with the large splatter stamp from AO Grunge Elements using vintage photo distress ink, distress the edges of the panel and mount onto black cardstock.

4). Ink the sentiment from AO The Captain with archival black ink, stamp onto vanilla cardstock, antique with distress inks and mount onto black cardstock.

5). Die cut and emboss several of the gears from the AO Steampunk Gears Dies from espresso cardstock, apply a bit of antique brass distress stain and cut a few in half.

6). Add the AO Vagabond Treasures panels to the card front along with the sentiment, add the black satin ribbon with the ribbon slide (wrapping the ends behind the panel) and mount the entire card front onto the white card base.

7). Insert an antique brad into one of the gear dies, add the AO The Captain stamped youth image to the card front with dimensional foam along with the AO Steampunk Gears Dies to finish off the card.

Thanks again for taking the time to stop by- hugs and I hope all of you have a fabulous weekend!

Beyond the Sea

Hi Friends!

I hope you are having a great week so far!

Today I am sharing this Mixed Media card I designed using Beyond the Sea, Ephemera Backgrounds and Grunge Elements by the Artistic Outpost from Our Daily Bread Designs at the Artistic Outpost blog and wanted to share it with you here as well :-)

I just love the images from all three of these stamp sets- they are so versatile for so many projects!

I decided to play along with a few of my favorite online challenges and incorporated the Mojo Monday #459 Sketch Challenge, the Global Design Project #47 Nautical Challenge, Word Art Wednesday #242/#243  and the Splitcoaststampers' MIX174 “Beachy News” Challenge into my design.

If you have not had a chance to visit the above challenge galleries or the Artistic Outpost blog yet, I encourage you to do so- fabulous inspiration from all!

To create this card:

Ink the lighthouse, seashells, starfish and sentiment from the Beyond the Sea stamp set with black archival ink and stamp onto white cardstock.

Watercolor the lighthouse as well as the seashells/starfish images with neutral distress inks and use a calligraphy marker to add the vintage watercolor (please see the Splitcoaststampers tutorial here).

Fussy-cut the starfish and seashell images, shape a bit with your fingers and use a clear glitter pen to add sparkle (it is hard to see the glitter in the photo).

Hand tear the edges of the sentiment and distress with your fingers, use the grid image along with the large splatter image from Grunge Elements to add a bit of texture.

Die cut the lighthouse with the ODBD Double Stitched Rectangle Dies and mount onto dark brown cardstock.

Create the background panel by stamping the music image from Ephemera Backgrounds with walnut distress ink and the Grunge Elements images (I used the grid and the splatter images) onto a piece of light tan paper from the ODBD Ephemera Essentials 6x6Paper Collection.

Cut the panel into strips (per the Mojo459 Sketch) and mount onto a piece of dark brown cardstock die cut with frame from the ODBD Flourished Star Pattern Dies.

Adhere the layered background panel onto another piece of light tan paper from the ODBD Ephemera Essentials 6x6 Paper Collection,  mount onto the dark brown cardstock base, adhere the lighthouse image on an angle (per the sketch) and add the sentiment with dimensional foam.

Adhere a knotted piece of burlap twine to the sentiment and mount the seashells with the starfish using dimensional foam to finish off the card.

I hope I have inspired you with this card to take some time to relax this weekend!  Maybe, if you are like me, relaxing means stamping- if so, I hope you have a great time, my friends :-)

Thanks again for stopping by- hugs!

Hero

Hi Friends!

Today I am sharing this Mixed Media card in honor of Memorial Day on the Artistic Outpost (AO) blog using Grunge Elements from the Artistic Outpost Spring Release along with Hero and Ephemera Backgrounds (also Artistic Outpost stamps from Our Daily Bread Designs).

Final version (see below for more details :-))
Monday, May 30th is Memorial Day here in the United States and while we may have picnics and get-togethers this weekend, I pray that we will be thinking of the sacrifice that was made by the brave men and women who lost their lives defending our country and the freedom that we enjoy because of their sacrifice.  May we never forget all of our heroes...

I incorporated the Pals Paper Arts PPA302 Sketch Challenge for the layout as well as the Splitcoaststampers’ MIX137 “It’s A Grand Old Flag” Challenge (Stars and Stripes) and the Simon Says Wednesday "Anything Goes" Challenge.

I actually have two designs of this card to share- my husband thought the background was a bit too busy in the first design and since it was already put together, I had to do some creative “fixing” to achieve the final version.

He said that he liked the second card design better and I told him, "Great, because it’s too late now" – lol!

To create the background of this card:

On a 5” square piece of Whisper White cardstock, stamp the Telegram image from Ephemera Backgrounds (AO) using Dapper Denim Classic Ink and create a mask to cover the image.

First version (before distressing the background and adding stars)

Ink the Ledger image from Ephemera Backgrounds (AO) with Cherry Cobbler Classic Ink and stamp over the masked Telegram image.

Lift the mask, ink the Postcard image (also from Ephemera Backgrounds (AO) using Dapper Denim Ink and stamp directly over the ledger image.

Allow the ink to dry (or use a Heat Tool to speed up the process) and with a sponge applicator, apply Ranger® Tim Holtz® Tea Dye Distress Ink over the entire panel.

Add Grunge Elements(AO) images using Ranger® Tim Holtz® Tea Dye and Vintage Photo Distress Ink and distress the edges with the Distressing Tool.  FYI- at this point, I layered the card with the rest of the elements for version #1.

Another view of the second version :-)
To complete the background for version #2- Tone down the brightness of the stamping in the background using a paint brush with Gesso®, allow the Gesso® to dry and ink the Grunge Elements (AO) with Ranger® Tim Holtz® Vintage Photo Distress Ink (stamping randomly over some of the images).

Mount the background panel onto a piece of Cherry Cobbler cardstock, trim and mount onto a piece of Dapper Denim cardstock, trim and mount onto the Extra Thick Whisper White card base.

To create the rest of the card:

Directly color onto the Hero (AO) image with Stampin’ Write Markers- Dapper Denim for the stars,  Cherry Cobbler for the stripes and Basic Gray for the service man,  “huff” to moisten the ink and stamp onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock.

Sponge Ranger® Tim Holtz® Tea Dye Distress Ink over the image to “antique” the paper and stamp the grid image from Grunge Elements (AO) using Ranger® Tim Holtz® Tea Dye  Distress Ink as well.

Trim the focal image panel and mount onto Dapper Denim cardstock, trim and add a bit of Gesso® (set aside to dry).

Cut a strip of the Patriotic Collection 6x6 Paper (ODBD) and use the Big Shot™ with the Cuttlebug™ Stars Embossing Folder to emboss the panel.

Mount the embossed strip onto a piece of Dapper Denim cardstock and lightly sand the embossing.

Adhere the strip to the background panel and add the focal image using dimensional foam.

Stamp the sentiment from Hero (AO) using Dapper Denim Classic Ink onto Whisper White cardstock, cut the sentiment out with Rectangle Dies (ODBD) and mount onto a piece of Dapper Denim cardstock cut with the Double Stitched Rectangle Dies (ODBD).

Sponge Ranger® Tim Holtz® Tea Dye Distress Ink over the image to “antique” the paper, stamp the grid image from Grunge Elements (AO) using Ranger® Tim Holtz® Tea Dye  Distress Ink and add a bit of Gesso® as well  (just as in the focal image finishing).

Cut a strip of Cherry Cobbler cardstock (I actually crimped this strip with the Crimper Tool but you cannot tell since I added stars to the second version), add the strip to the background as per the sketch and mount the sentiment with dimensional foam.

To create the stars:

Die cut two stars from the same piece of Patriotic Collection 6x6 Paper (ODBD) using the ODBD Sparkling Stars Dies, insert the stars into the Stars Embossing Folder (lining the die cuts with the stars in the EF), emboss with the Big Shot™ and mount onto Dapper Denim cardstock.

For the third star, ink the star and stripe area on the large flag image from Hero (AO) with Stampin’ Write Markers- Dapper Denim and Cherry Cobbler, “huff” to moisten the ink and stamp onto Whisper White cardstock.  Die cut with ODBD Sparkling Stars Dies and mount onto Dapper Denim cardstock.

Carefully fussy-cut around each star and add Antique Brass brads to the center of the two embossed stars.

Mount the stars onto the card front with dimensional foam to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets: Hero, Ephemera Backgrounds, Grunge Elements (Artistic Outpost)

Ink/Mediums: Cherry Cobbler and Dapper Denim Classic Ink, Stampin’ Write Markers- Cherry Cobbler, Dapper Denim, Basic Gray;  Ranger® Tim Holtz® Tea Dye and Vintage Photo Distress Ink;  Gesso®

Paper: Whisper White, Cherry Cobbler, Dapper Denim; Patriotic Collection 6x6 Paper (ODBD)

Accessories: Big Shot™, Our Daily Bread Designs Dies- Double Stitched Rectangle Dies, RectangleDies, Sparkling Stars Dies; Stars Embossing Folder (CB), Distressing Tool, Sponge Applicator, Antique Brass Brads, Sanding Block, Dimensional Foam

OK, so which one do you like better?  Version #1 (no stars and darker background) or version #2 with the added stars and muted background?  Inquiring minds need to know- lol!!

Thanks again for visiting- hugs and I hope all of you have a safe Memorial weekend!
