Delight Yourself in the Lord

Hi Friends!!

I hope all of you are having a fabulous week so far! This morning I am sharing a card that I designed using a few retired stamps as well as retired designer papers (I love being able to use up some of my stash).

As I shared in previous posts, I am working on trying to create a card for each of the Splitcoaststampers (SCS)
Sketch Challenges (there is no deadline for the SCS Challenges) and used the SC220 Sketch for the layout on this card.

This sketch allowed me to use two different patterned papers for the background panel and qualifies for the Simon Says Wednesday “Two or More Patterned Papers” Challenge.

This Mixed Media card was fairly simple to create:

1). On a piece of white cardstock, stamp the larger floral image with Versafine™ Onyx Black Ink,  apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

2). Create a mask by stamping the floral image onto a piece of scrap paper, fussy-cut the image and mask the original flower before stamping and repeating these steps for the next two flowers.  Once the heat embossing has cooled, use water-based markers to watercolor the flowers.

3). Die cut the flower panel with a stitched rectangle die and watercolor the background with Tumbled Glass and Broken China Distress Oxide Ink. Heat set the background ink before heat embossing the sentiment using the same embossing steps as above.

4). Mount the panel onto black cardstock, trim close to the edge, mount onto white cardstock, trim again and mount finally onto black cardstock to create the frame.

5). For the background, die cut the strips of designer paper using horizontal stitched strip dies, mount onto black cardstock, trim close to the edge, mount onto white cardstock and die cut the panel with a stitched rectangle die.

6). Mount the background panel onto a piece of black cardstock (die cut with another stitched rectangle die) and mount the background panel onto a white card base. Add the framed floral panel with dimensional foam (or chipboard).

7). Use a clear glitter pen to add shimmer to the petals and add a few Nuvo™ Morning Dew Jewel Drops to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets: Blooming with Kindness (retired Stampin’ Up!), Scripture Medley 1 (retired Verve Stamps)

Ink/Mediums: Versafine™ Onyx Black, Stampin’ Write Markers- Calypso Coral, Poppy Parade, Real Red; Tim Holtz™ Distress Oxide Ink- Tumbled Glass, Broken China; Spectrum Noir™ Clear Glitter Pen, Nuvo™ Morning Dew Jewel Drops

Cardstock/Paper:  Whisper White, Basic Black, misc Designer Series Papers (retired Stampin’ Up!)

Accessories: Big Shot™,  MFT Dies- Stitched Rectangle STAX A2 Set 1 & 2, Stitched Horizontal Strips; Embossing Buddy®, Clear EP, Heat Tool

Thanks again for taking the time to stop by- I will be sharing a few more cards in the next few weeks (I have over 50 finished cards to post to my blog). Stamping is my “therapy” and I love creating, but it seems to take me so much time to photograph/edit the cards, create the blog posts, etc.- lol!!  Hugs and I hope you will have a chance to visit again soon!

TCC85 Romantic Rose Easel Card

Hi Friends!!

Woohoo- it’s time for The Card Concept #85 {Rustic Blooms} Challenge!!  I love this gorgeous photo and was inspired by the beautiful colors as well as the flowers to create my Classy & Elegant Mixed Media easel card.

Since I have been making an effort to give all of my stamps “love”, I decided to pull out the long ago retired stamp, Romantic Rose (Stampin’ Up!) and paired it with a verse from the Scripture Medley 1 stamp set from Verve Stamps.

I am also linking this card to the Try Stampin' On Tuesday “Tic-Tac-Tuesday #1” Challenge (top row across- Black, Die Cut, Pink) along with the As You Like It “Favourite Die and Why? Challenge (I loved stitched dies of all kinds and used two different stitched dies on this card), the Word Art Wednesday #318-#319 “Anything Goes” Challenge and the Simon Says Wednesday "Layer It Up" Challenge.

If you have not had a chance to do so, I hope you will find the time to check out the rest of the wonderful Design Team cards at The Card Concept as well as the entries at the other challenge sites- fabulous inspiration from all!

To create this card:

1). Ink the Romantic Rose image with Versafine™ Onyx Black ink, stamp onto a piece of white cardstock, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.  Once the embossing has cooled, watercolor the rose image and background with ink from water-based markers (see the colors listed below).  Use a sponge dauber with broken china distress ink and a stencil brush with peacock feathers distress ink along with two stencils to add layered stenciling to the background (this step could be omitted- I thought that it needed a little something extra and the dotted stencil did not look right so I added the chevron. Once you add it, you can not take it away, so there it is :-))

2). Die cut the panel using a cross-stitched rectangle die (Gina K. Designs) and mount onto black cardstock, trim close to the die cut edge.

3). Emboss a piece of blue cardstock with a woodgrain embossing folder, mount onto the black card front.  Add the triple 5/8” black satin ribbon bow (wrapping the ends behind the panel- see note in step 7) and set the card front aside.

4). Create the easel card base from a 4 ¼” x 11” piece of white cardstock, scored at 5 ½” and 8 ¼”.  Fold for the easel and mount the focal image panel onto the 2 ¾” portion of the upper fold (see the tutorial at Splitcoaststampers here for the instructions on an easel card).

5). Emboss a 2 ¼” by 4” piece of blue cardstock with the woodgrain embossing folder.  Mount onto a 2 ½” x 4 ¼” piece of black cardstock, add this panel to the bottom part of the 5 ½” portion of the easel card using dimensional foam.

6). Stamp the verse sentiment from Scripture Medley 1 (Verve Stamps) with Versafine™ Onyx Black ink, stamp onto a piece of white cardstock, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.  Once the embossing has cooled, watercolor with the blue marker to match the background on the main panel. Layer onto a piece of black cardstock and trim close to the edge.  Adhere to the lower layer of the easel card and add a few pearls to the corners.

7). Cut a piece of black cardstock 2 ½” x 4 ¼” and adhere to the back of the lower portion of the main focal image panel (this hides the ribbon ends from view).  OOPS!  If I had planned the project better, this step could have been avoided by adding the ribbon to the blue layer before mounting onto the black card front...but, hindsight is 20/20, right?

8). Finish off the card by adding shimmer to the flower petals with a clear shimmer pen and white highlights to the small flowers with an extra fine white paint pen.

Be Still and Know That I Am God

Hi Friends!!

I hope all of you are having a great week so far! I had a chance to create another vintage Mixed Media card and decided to use the Viva La Verve January 2018 Sketch Challenge for the layout.  I pulled out the "new to me" Scripture Medley 1 stamp set (Verve Stamps) along with retired designer paper from Graphic 45 (Botanical Tea Collection).

I am also linking this card to the Try It On Tuesday "My Favorite Things" Challenge (I love using Scripture on the front of my cards plus I love Graphic 45 Collection paper!) , the Simon Says Wednesday “Use Patterned Paper” Challenge and the Tuesday Throwdown #374 “Layer It Up” Challenge.

If you have not had a chance to do so, I hope you will find the time to check out the wonderful Design Team cards at all of the challenge sites- gorgeous inspiration from all!

To create this card:

1). De-static a piece of vanilla cardstock with an embossing powder tool, stamp the verse from Scripture Medley 1 using Versamark™ ink, apply gold embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.  Once the embossing has cooled, die cut with a stitched banner die, mount onto a piece of suede cardstock and trim close to the edge.

2). Trim several pieces of the Botanical Tea designer paper, distress the edges and mount onto a piece of suede cardstock.  Use a sponge dauber with antique distress ink to “age” the paper.  Add the horizontal strip with the striped designer paper (per the sketch) and mount the entire card front to a piece of white cardstock.  Use a flamingo marker to color the edge and adhere to a white card base.

3). Trim a piece of the Botanical Tea Cut-A-Part, mount onto a stitched rectangle die cut piece of suede cardstock and adhere to the card front with dimensional foam.

4). Mount the sentiment onto the card front with dimensional foam.

5). Add the rolled rose with suede and vellum leaves and the looped twine bow with antique brad.

6). Add shimmer to the rolled rose and floral image with a clear glitter pen.  Finish off the card with a few pearls.

Stamp Sets: Scripture Medley 1 (Verve Stamps)

Inks/Mediums:  Versamark™; Tim Holtz® Antique Linen Distress Ink; Stampin’ Write Markers- Flirty Flamingo, Spectrum Noir™ Clear Glitter Pen

Cardstock/Paper: Very Vanilla, Soft Suede, Whisper White, Vellum (all Stampin’ Up!); Graphic45 Botanical Tea Designer Paper (retired)

Accessories: Big Shot™, Dies- MFT Jumbo Stitched Fishtail Banner STAX , A2 Stitched Rectangle STAX Set 1, MFT Mini Royal Rose Dies; Martha Stewart Leaf Punch, Embossing Buddy®, Gold Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Sponge Dauber, Polished Hemp Twine, Antique Brad, Pearls
