Tea Party

Hi Friends!

This card was designed with the retired Trust God and Gentle Thoughts stamp sets from Stampin’ Up! using a stacked designer paper technique for the background.

As I have mentioned in previous posts, I am slowly working my way through the over 800 sketches at Splitcoaststampers and this card uses the SC128 Sketch for the layout (I did modify it a bit).

I also have a personal goal to try to ink up some of my older (and neglected) stamp sets.  Gentler Times is from 1999 or so and I have not inked up this image in years, so when I saw the International Art & Soul #89 “Tea Party” Challenge, I knew I would have to join in, lol!

In addition to the Tea Party Challenge at International Art & Soul, I am also participating with the Through The Craft Room Door August “Anything Goes” Challenge and the Simon Says Wednesday “Use Your Favorite Tool” Challenge.

I have so many favorite tools, it is hard to choose just one but I tend to use my heat tool for almost every card), so I would say my heat tool is my favorite tool :-)

To create this card:

De-static two pieces of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool, ink the tea party image from Gentle Thoughts and the verse sentiment from Trust God with black archival ink, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Once the embossing has cooled, die cut the verse sentiment with a stitched circle die, mount onto another circle cut from black cardstock.

Watercolor the tea party image with water-based markers and distress oxide inks.  Once you are satisfied with the coloring, fussy cut the image and mount onto black cardstock.  Fussy cut around the edge of the image, set aside.

For the background, stack two pieces of designer paper together and cut on the diagonal across both sheets together.

Adhere the pieces of designer paper onto a white card base, separating a bit to create a quilted look (you will have two card bases from this technique).

Emboss the panel with a tin tile embossing folder, trim and mount onto black cardstock.

Add a strip of black satin ribbon, wrapping the ends behind the back of the panel and mount the entire panel onto a white card base.

Mount the sentiment with chipboard (or dimensional foam) and add the tea party image using a double layer of chipboard.

To finish off the card, add a few pearls to the edges of the sentiment layer and use a clear glitter pen to add shimmer to the flowers.

Hope- Another Experiment with Mixed Media

Hi Stampers!!

I wanted to try another mixed media card and decided to use Splitcoaststampers  MIX83 Naturally Elements MIX-Ability Challenge (Element- Fire) along with the SplitcoaststampersSC457 Sketch . 

Supposedly there is no right or wrong with mixed media journaling- not sure about cardmaking, so I used the sentiment "hope" for that reason and our kitties are having dental surgery (annual cleaning) and we are hoping that all will be well :-) 

This tehnique also allowed me to use a bit of my massive "stash" of embellishments, etc. so I had a great time creating this project.  If you have not tried mixed media, I hope you will give it a try as well!!

To create this card:

Stamp the heart image using Staz-On® Jet Black Ink onto a piece of Royal Langnickel Essentials™ Acrylic Paper and color the entire card panel including the heart using Gelatos® (I used Red Cherry, Bubble Gum, Tangerine with a little bit of Lemon).   Use a paint brush to add water and mix the colors. 

Allow to the panel to dry, add highlights to the heart with a white Watercolor Pencil, mask the heart and stamp the splatter stamps from Gorgeous Grunge with Blackberry Bliss Classic Ink.  Lightly sand the background area around the heart to add additional distressing.

Cut the heart out and cut the remaining panel into strips.  Adhere the strips onto a piece of Basic Black cardstock and with a foam brush, apply Mod-Podge® to the panel of strips as well as the cut—out heart image.

Once the panel is dry, stamp the floral stamp using Stone Gray Staz-On® Ink over the strips and add the 5/8” Basic Black Triple Satin Ribbon bow.

Adhere the heart shape using Stampin’ Dimensionals® as well as the die cut cat and layered sentiment (stamped onto Whisper White cardstock creating the banner points with the Hexagon Punch, distress with the Distressing Tool, Add the heart clip and key charm and mount onto Basic Black cardstock). 

Use the Distressing Tool to distress the edges of a piece of Designer Series Paper (DSP) and adhere to the Basic Black card base using a Sewing Machine.  Use a foam brush to apply Mod-Podge® to the DSP panel. 

Once the background panel is dry, mount the focal image panel to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals® and add the Black Octagon shaped Rhinestones to the corners and sentiment. 

Add a few Rhinestones to the heart shape to finish off the card.
