Hope- Another Experiment with Mixed Media

Hi Stampers!!

I wanted to try another mixed media card and decided to use Splitcoaststampers  MIX83 Naturally Elements MIX-Ability Challenge (Element- Fire) along with the SplitcoaststampersSC457 Sketch .

Supposedly there is no right or wrong with mixed media journaling- not sure about cardmaking, so I used the sentiment "hope" for that reason and our kitties are having dental surgery (annual cleaning) and we are hoping that all will be well :-)

This tehnique also allowed me to use a bit of my massive "stash" of embellishments, etc. so I had a great time creating this project.  If you have not tried mixed media, I hope you will give it a try as well!!

Again, I hope that you will find the time to visit the galleries and see all of the different designs and inspiration!

To create this card:

Stamp the heart image using Staz-On® Jet Black Ink onto a piece of Royal Langnickel Essentials™ Acrylic Paper and color the entire card panel including the heart using Gelatos® (I used Red Cherry, Bubble Gum, Tangerine with a little bit of Lemon).   Use a paint brush to add water and mix the colors.

Allow to the panel to dry, add highlights to the heart with a white Watercolor Pencil, mask the heart and stamp the splatter stamps from Gorgeous Grunge with Blackberry Bliss Classic Ink.  Lightly sand the background area around the heart to add additional distressing.

Cut the heart out and cut the remaining panel into strips.  Adhere the strips onto a piece of Basic Black cardstock and with a foam brush, apply Mod-Podge® to the panel of strips as well as the cut—out heart image.

Once the panel is dry, stamp the floral stamp using Stone Gray Staz-On® Ink over the strips and add the 5/8” Basic Black Triple Satin Ribbon bow.

Adhere the heart shape using Stampin’ Dimensionals® as well as the die cut cat and layered sentiment (stamped onto Whisper White cardstock creating the banner points with the Hexagon Punch, distress with the Distressing Tool, Add the heart clip and key charm and mount onto Basic Black cardstock).

Use the Distressing Tool to distress the edges of a piece of Designer Series Paper (DSP) and adhere to the Basic Black card base using a Sewing Machine.  Use a foam brush to apply Mod-Podge® to the DSP panel.

Once the background panel is dry, mount the focal image panel to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals® and add the Black Octagon shaped Rhinestones to the corners and sentiment.

Add a few Rhinestones to the heart shape to finish off the card.

Hi Stampers!!

This past week has been the annual Dare To Get Dirty Challenge at Splitcoaststampersand I was honored to be able to create a few samples for the many hostesses of this fun challenge!!

Again, if you are not a Fan Club member, here is the link to learn more aboutjoining.
While the Splitcoaststampers site is free, there are benefits to becoming a Fan Club member and one of them is to be able to participate in the exclusive challenges and possibly win some of the fantastic, free prizes!!

For the $25.00 a year membership fee (approx. 6.5 cents a day), you can help support this wonderful stamping resource that I know I visit several times a day- what a bargain!!  And no, I do not receive a commission if you sign up- lol!!, I am just one of their unofficial “cheerleaders” since I love the site so much- between the galleries of wonderful inspiration, free tutorials, forums and challenges- this site has helped me immensely with my journey into the world of papercrafting!

One rule of participation in the Dare To Get Dirty Challenges is that the actual challenge details are secret to all except the Fan Club Members…I can share the card but not the details on the actual challenge (unfortunately, any details on this card will reveal the challenge details, so if you have any questions, please let me know in the comment area).

Happy Valentine's Day- Six Punches and A Cool Color Combo :-)

Hi Stampers!

Happy Valentine’s Day!!   I decided to create a Valentine with non-traditional colors and loved Nance’s PP182 Color Combination at The Paper Players and used a few punches for another card for the SUO90 Punch Parade Challenge.  Plus,  this week's Shining the Light Challenge at Our Daily Bread Designs is Non-Traditional Colors- love using non-traditional colors for holidays, don't you?

Again, I hope you have had a chance to check out all of the entries and Design Team projects!  So much inspiration and alot of hard work goes into creating and maintaining the challenge sites- if you have a chance, leave a comment (what we call "some love") :-)

To create this card:

Use the Big Shot™ with the heart die cut (I used a non SU! Die this time) to cut out the opening on the card front from a piece of Midnight Muse cardstock.   Emboss with the Woodgrain Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder and trim.

Emboss a piece of Whisper White cardstock using the retired Lacy Brocade Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder  and adhere behind the heart opening.  Add the paper lace edge to the bottom of the Midnight Muse embossed layer (cut with the Large Scallop Framelits™ and embossed with Lace Delicate Designs Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder- I had this one in my scraps ready to go :-))

Adhere this panel onto a piece of Gold Foil cardstock and adhere again onto a piece of Crisp Cantaloupe cardstock.  Mount the entire panel onto the Midnight Muse card base.

Stamp the little banner from the stamp set, Follow Your Heart using Midnight Muse Classic Ink onto Whisper White cardstock and punch out using the Bitty Banner Punch. Add to the card front using Mini Glue Dots.

Emboss a piece of Crisp Cantaloupe cardstock using the retired Lacy Brocade Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder- cut a strip to hide the seam of the paper lace edge and cover the upper edge of the banner.

Create the paper bow using the Large Oval and Hexagon Punches from the embossed Crisp Cantaloupe cardstock.  Add the Midnight Muse Dahlia to the center of the bow and adhere to the front of the card.

Using the Big Shot™ with the detailed heart die to cut out a piece from the Gold Foil cardstock and add to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.

Create the rolled flowers using the 1 ¾” and 1 ¼” Scallop Circle Punches from Crisp Cantaloupe cardstock (punch out, cut a spiral towards the center, crimp with the retired Crimper Tool, roll up and adhere).  Use the Bird Builder Punch to punch out the leaves from Midnight Muse cardstock, adhere to the center of the heart and add the rolled flowers to finish off the card.
