CAS "Smoosh" Card- Fear Not

Hi Friends!!

I had a chance to create another card last night and decided to pull out a few sets that I have not had a chance to ink up in a while- Stampin’ Up! Butterfly Basics, Awesomely Artistic and Rose Wonder (all three sets are over a year old :-)).

I incorporated the Fab Friday #114 Color Challenge along with the Happy LittleStampers June 2017 CAS “Smoosh” Challenge and the Retro Rubber #64 "Anything Goes" Challenge into the design.

If you have not already had a chance to visit the above challenge sites, I hope you will do so- they both have wonderful Design Teams and fabulous challenge entries.

To create this card:

1). Ink the floral image from Butterfly Basics with archival black ink, stamp onto white cardstock, heat set with a heat tool and watercolor using an AquaPainter™ along with ink from the Powder Pink, Berry Burst, Fresh Fig, Lemon Lime Twist and Tranquil Tide Classic Ink Pads.  Use the Stampin’ Write Markers to add more color and definition and once the flower has dried, fussy-cut and set aside.

2). On a clear acetate envelope, tap a bit of Powder Pink and Berry Burst Classic Ink, spritz lightly with water, smoosh the ink around and lay a piece of white cardstock into the ink.  Dry with the Heat Tool, add a bit of splatter with the splatter image from Awesomely Artistic stamp set with Berry Burst Classic Ink.  Apply Picket Fence Distress Stain over some of the “smooshed” areas to tone down the ink, dry again before trimming. 

3). Ink the verse sentiment from Rose Wonder with Fresh Fig Classic Ink, stamp onto the panel and mount onto a piece of Berry Burst cardstock.

4). Mount the flower using dimensional foam, use a clear glitter pen to add shimmer to the petals and an extra fine white paint pen for highlights in the center of the flower.

5). Add the droplets using Rosewater Nuvo Crystal Jewel Drops to finish off the card.

Life is Better with Ice Cream!

This morning I am sharing another fun Mixed Media card created with the Artistic Outpost stamp sets, Ice Cream Shoppe, Grunge Elements and the Bottle Caps Background along with the ODBD Pastel 6x6 Paper Pack (all available from Our Daily Bread Designs).

I wanted to play along with the final Mojo Monday #500 Sketch Challenge (so sad to see this challenge ending but fully understand) along with the Tuesday Throwdown #346 “Sugar High” Challenge and the Happy Little Stampers June Mixed Media “Glitter” Challenge (I am honored to be their Guest Designer this month).

I also used the Splitcoaststampers CC638 Color Challenge into the design.  It is hard to see the glitter- I used a Spectrum Noir™ Clear Glitter Pen for all of the shimmer.

To create this card:

1). Tap the Distress Oxide ink pads (Worn Lipstick, Peeled Paint and Wilted Violet) onto a craft mat, spritz with water and lay a piece of watercolor paper into the ink.  Lift up and dry with the heat tool, spritzing additional water as you dry.  Keep repeating until you are satisfied with the results.

2). De-static the panel with an embossing powder tool, stamp the Bottle Caps Background stamp with Versamark™ ink, apply white embossing powder and heat set with the heat tool. 

Add additional distress oxide ink as needed to darken some of the areas and stamp the large splatter image from Grunge Elements with Wilted Violet distress oxide ink. Trim the panel and mount onto a piece of white cardstock, trim again and mount onto a piece of pear cardstock.

3).  On a piece of 4” x 5 ¼” white cardstock,  add a bit of the same distress oxide inks onto the panel, trim and adhere the ¼” lavender and rose satin ribbon (wrapping the ends of the ribbon behind the panel).  Using the dot stencil, add stenciling with the clear glitter pen.  Mount onto the pear card front before adhering to the white card base.

4). Create the vertical panels from pieces of the Pastel 6x6 Paper Pack, mount onto white and pear cardstock.  Add to the card front, popping up the lilac panel with dimensional foam.

5). Stamp the ice cream cones from Ice Cream Shoppe with archival black ink, heat set with the heat tool and watercolor with the distress oxide inks (adding vintage photo for the cone).  Fussy-cut the ice cream cones, mount onto black cardstock and fussy-cut again.  Use the clear glitter pen to add shimmer to the ice cream.

6).  Mount the focal image to the card front with dimensional foam, add the ice cream cones and apply clear shimmer to the bottle caps with the glitter pen.

7).  Stamp the sentiment from Ice Cream Shoppe with archival black ink onto white cardstock, heat set with the heat tool, trim the sentiment, mount onto pear cardstock and add the sentiment to the card front.

8). Finish off the card by adding Nuvo Crystal Jewel Drops to the corners and focal image panel.

Happy Little Stampers June 2017 Mixed Media Challenge

Hi Friends! 

Woohoo! I have been invited to be the Guest Designer for the Happy Little Stampers Mixed Media Challenge for June! What an honor and when your card is chosen as one of their monthly winners, you have a chance to Guest Design in the future- thanks HLS!!

 

I love using mixed media and I know some of you are a bit tentative to try mixed media but it is fairly simple to create a mixed media card!  Just combine at least two or more mediums- ink, acrylics, pastels, pencils, glitter, texture paste, etc. and you are using mixed media!  

Most of you probably create Mixed Media cards and did not even know it!  Mixed Media can be Clean and Simple, Vintage/Shabby, Elegant & Classy - basically any style you feel comfortable designing!

Still not sure what qualifies as Mixed Media?  Splitcoaststampers "Mix-Ability" Challenge has a great list of items to help you understand what they are looking for in a mixed media card and I have found that their description seems to apply to most Mixed Media Challenge sites.  Quote directly from the SCS "Mix-Ability" Challenge site: "Here are our guiding principles.

This is a mixed media challenge, with the goal of teaching people how simple Mixed Media can be, and how you can get a range of looks with Mixed Media - Clean & Simple, Vintage, Modern, Abstract, Grunge and much more. 

A "medium" can be any of the following:

• Pencils - wax, oil, watercolor, graphite/charcoal, chalk/pastel
• Pastels - chalk, oil
• Markers - watercolor, pigment, water-based, acrylic
• Pens - ink, glitter
• Pigments - Gelatos, watercolor crayons, metallic rubons
• Paints - watercolor, acrylic, oil, poster, tempera
• Inks - dye, chalk, distress, reinkers, pigment, hybrid
• Powders - mica, pigment, chalk
• Sprays & airbrushing
• Dimensionals - embossing paste, gesso, fabric, found items, papers (collage, piecing) & ephemera, foils
• Heated elements - encaustic wax, embossing

And a "mix" can be any two or more of these items or others."

Since the Happy Little Stampers theme for this month is "Glitter" I decided to create a Vintage style Christmas card.  I have to confess, I have a huge stash of glitter that has been collecting "dust" so I was excited to have a reason to pull it out and use it!  

I did use quite a bit of glitter in this card (two types of glitter in three different ways) and I find it is very difficult to photograph glitter, but trust me, the card just glistens in real life!

To create this card:

1). Using embossing ink, stamp the Inkadinkadoo Evergreen Holiday framed wreath image onto white cardstock, apply black embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Use an AquaPainter™ to color the image with watercolor pencils , water-based markers and distress inks.  

Once you are satisfied with the results, fussy cut the image, mount onto black cardstock, fussy-cut along the edge again before adding a few white highlights on the floral sprays with an extra fine white paint pen.  

2). Use a palette knife to mix glitter into a small amount of crackled texture paste, use a diamond patterned stencil and apply the glitter paste to a piece of white cardstock. 

Set the panel aside to air dry before trimming and mounting onto gold cardstock.

Can you see the shimmery glitter? 

3). Adhere the strip of green satin ribbon along with the white crochet lace (wrap the edges of the ribbon behind the panel) and add the strips of pearls to cover the edges of the lace.

4). Using adhesive, add a bit here and there on the wreath and sprinkle diamond glitter over the image.  Mount the wreath onto the card front using dimensional foam.

5). Ink the sentiment from Poinsettia Stamp Set (Power Poppy) with embossing ink, stamp onto a piece of white cardstock, apply black embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool. Once the embossing has cooled, use the AquaPainter™  to apply a bit of Old Paper and Tea Dye Distress Inkto “age” the paper, trim the panel, create the banner points (I used a hexagon punch but you could also hand cut), mount onto black cardstock (trimming close to the edge) and add to the card front with dimensional foam.  Apply additional "glitter" with a clear glitter pen over the entire sentiment.

6). Finish off the card by adding a few pearls to the upper left hand corner.

Well, it feels good to have at least one Christmas card completed and while I have my glitter out, I am hoping to create another card for this challenge shortly.

Life is Better with Ice Cream!

I had a chance to stamp this weekend and create another Mixed Media card using Artistic Outpost stamps- Ice Cream Shoppe, Grunge Elements and Bottle Caps Background along with the ODBD Pierced Rectangles Dies (all available from Our Daily Bread Designs).

 

I incorporated the Hand Stamped Sentiments HSS264 Color Challenge along with the Simon Says Wednesday “A Bit of Sparkle” Challenge and the Happy Little Stampers May "Watercolour" into the design.

If you have not had a chance to check out the Artistic Outpost blog or the other challenge sites yet, I encourage you to do so!  Inspiration is posted throughout the week on the AO Blog/ AO Facebook Page and the challenge galleries have fabulous samples as well!

To create this card:

1). Apply Vintage Photo Distress Stain onto a craft mat, spritz with water and lay a piece of white cardstock into the ink. Lift and re-apply the ink, dry with a heat tool and repeat the steps with Pool Party and Watermelon dye based inks.

2).  Ink the large splatter stamp with Vintage Photo Distress Ink, stamp onto the background panel, die cut and emboss the panel with Pierced Rectangles Dies. Mount onto black cardstock, trim close to the edge, mount onto a pool party card base and sponge Vintage Photo Distress Ink along the edges to distress the edges.

3). Ink the Bottle Caps Background stamp with archival black ink, stamp onto white cardstock, heat set with a heat tool before coloring the bottle caps with water based markers- watermelon, pool and peach and a water brush.  Apply microglaze to the bottle caps and once dry, use the same steps above to fill in the background and add splatter.

4). Die cut and emboss the Bottle Caps Background using the Pierced Rectangles Dies, mount onto a black frame (also die cut and embossed with Pierced Rectangles Dies).

5). Ink the gentleman and ice cream cone images from Ice Cream Shoppe with archival black ink, stamp onto white cardstock, heat set the ink with a heat tool and color with water based markers and water color pencils.  Fussy-cut the images, mount onto black cardstock and fussy-cut close to the edge.

6). Mount the fussy-cut images along with the heat embossed sentiment onto the card front using dimensional foam.

7). Use a clear shimmer pen to add a bit of shimmer to the bottle caps and ice cream to finish off the card.

TCC72 April Showers

Hi Friends!!

It’s time for The Card Concept #72 “April Showers” Challenge!  I love this fun spring photo- the polka dot boots, beautiful flowers and colors are just so inspiring!!   I decided to create an Elegant and Classy Mixed Media card using Power Poppy’s digital images.

I am also linking this card to the Simon Wednesday "Anything Goes" Challenge , the TGIF! #104 "Polka Dot" Challenge and the Happy Little Stamper's April Watercolour "Anything Goes" Challenge. 

If you have not had a chance to do so, I hope you will find the time to check out the rest of the wonderful Design Team cards at The Card Concept as well as the other challenge sites- gorgeous inspiration from all!

To create this card:

1). Using your computer along with a printer, print out the Power Poppy digital image of Everything’s Rosy onto white cardstock.

2). Color the floral image using a water brush along with watercolor pencils, water-based markers and adding shadows with a water soluble graphite pencil.   I also used alcohol markers to deepen some of the colors on the petals. 

3). Die cut the image with a stitched rectangle die and layer onto gray cardstock, trim close to the edge.

4). Trim two pieces of designer paper and mount onto gray cardstock, add a piece of 5/8” white satin ribbon over the cut edge and wrap the ends of the ribbon behind the back of the card front.  Mount the card front onto the white card base.

5). Add a white satin ribbon along with the button to the side. 

6). Use an extra fine white paint pen to add highlights to the flowers along with a clear glitter pen to add shimmer to the petals to finish off the card.

TCC71 Praying for You

Hi Friends!

It’s time for The Card Concept #71 Fresh Flutters Inspiration Challenge!  This week we are introducing five new Design Team members and wow, they are amazing!!

Here is our inspiration photo – isn’t it dreamy?  The soft colors, the textures and the gorgeous butterflies inspired me to create a Shabby Chic Mixed Media card.

I also incorporated the SC639 Sketch Challenge into the design, the Happy Little Stampers Mixed Media Challenge "Sprays" for April and the Inkspirational #132 Word Prompt "Spring" Challenge.

To create this card:

1). Emboss a piece of white cardstock with the Woodgrain Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder, trim and mount onto a piece of black cardstock.  Trim and mount onto the white card base.

2). Add the vertical strip of turquoise cardstock, layered onto black cardstock (per the sketch).

3). Die cut a piece of white cardstock with the stitched rectangle die, apply crackle texture paste with a palette knife through a stencil, allow the paste to dry.  Press the Tumbled Glass Distress Stain onto a craft mat, spritz with water, lay the die cut/embossed panel into the stain, spritz with water again and allow to air dry. Ink the retired French Script background stamp with black archival ink, stamp onto the dried panel, mount onto a piece of black cardstock, trim close to the edge.

4). Apply gesso to a pink paper doily (to tone down the pink), cut into quarters and add one quarter to the upper left hand corner of the die cut panel.

5). Create the roses with a spiral rose die from pink cardstock, add leaves and adhere to the card panel.  Mount the entire central panel onto the card front with dimensional foam.

6). Print out the sentiment from the Power Poppy digital stamp set, Rose and Camellias onto white cardstock, trim and add the banner points by hand (I use a hexagon punch), press into Tumbled Glass Distress Stain, mount onto black cardstock and add to the card front with dimensional foam.

7). Stamp the butterflies from Papillon Potpourri (Stampin’ Up!) with archival black ink onto white cardstock, punch out with the Elegant Butterfly Punch and color with Stampin’ Write Markers- Pumpkin Pie, Melon Mambo and Flirty Flamingo.  Use a water brush to soften the colors, mount onto the card front and add the pearls to the body.

8). Use a clear glitter pen to apply shimmer to the roses to finish off the card.

Ink/Medium: Printer Ink- Black, Memento™ Tuxedo Black; Stampin’ Write Markers- Pumpkin Pie, Flirty Flamingo, Melon Mambo; Tim Holtz™ Tumbled Glass Distress Stain; Spectrum Noir™ Clear Glitter Pen; Crackled Texture Paste

Paper/Cardstock:  Whisper White, Basic Black, Tempting Turquoise

CAS To My Friend

 

Hi Friends!

I had a chance to spend some time this morning to create a quick Clean and Simple card using the Our Daily Bread Designs April 2017 Release Stamp Set, To My Friend along with previously released Pierced Rectangles Custom Dies.

I decided to incorporate the CAS(E) This Sketch #215 Sketch Challenge along with the Happy Little Stampers April 2017 CAS “Blend” Challenge and the Less is More #322 "3 Pastels" Challenge into the design.

If you have not had a chance to visit the ODBD Blog or the other challenge sites yet, I hope you will find time to do so- so much inspiration in the challenge galleries as well as posting throughout the month on the ODBD Blog! 

To create this card:

1). Die cut and emboss a piece of white cardstock with the Pierced Rectangles Custom Dies.

2). De-static the die-cut panel with an embossing powder tool, ink the larger dandelion image  from the stamp set, To My Friend with embossing ink, then immediately re-ink into black ink before stamping onto the die-cut panel.  Apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

3). For the sentiment layer, repeat the above steps 1 & 2 using the sentiment from To My Friend.

4). Using a stencil brush, apply green, yellow and blue distress ink over the embossed images, mount the larger panel onto black cardstock, trim close to the edge before adhering the white card base.

5). Mount the sentiment with dimensional foam to the card front and use an extra fine white paint pen to add highlights to the dandelion to finish off the card.
