Hi Friends!

I am a bit late posting my card for the new #212 {Christmas Wreath} Challenge at The Card Concept!  I do not know about you, but November and December have flown by for me.  I cannot believe that Christmas is only twelve days away. I have not even mailed my Christmas cards yet, yikes! They will be late this year….

I was inspired by the gorgeous wreath and colors in our inspiration photo for my Mixed Media card.  I decided to pull out the Poinsettia stamp set (Power Poppy by Marcella Hawley).  

I have not inked up this stamp set in years and paired it with the Jesus stamp set (from Stamp Simply)-  both sets are still available for purchase. 

I am also participating with the Double Trouble #181 “It’s Up To You” Challenge and the Word Art Wednesday #677-#678 “anything Goes” Challenge.

To create this card:

De-static a piece of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool, ink the poinsettia image from Poinsettia with Versafine Onyx Black ink, stamp onto the prepared paper, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Once the embossing has cooled, watercolor the image with distress inks and water-based markers.  After coloring, fussy cut the image.

De-static the lower area of a 4” x 5 ¼” piece of white cardstock, ink the verse sentiment from the stamp set, Jesus with Versafine Black Onyx ink, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Adhere the panel to a piece of burgundy cardstock, trim to approx. 4 ⅛” x 5 ⅜”. 

Adhere a strip of white crochet lace and add the burgundy satin ribbon over the lace (wrapping the ends behind the panel). 

Add a few pearls to the upper right-hand corner to finish off the card.

The Card Concept #171 - Cast Your Cares Tulip

 

 

Hi Friends!

It’s time for the #171 {Spring Garden} Challenge at The Card Concept!

I was inspired by the colors and flowers in our photo as well as the Spring Theme to create a Clean and Layered/Mixed Media card!  I enjoy the cooler weather of spring, and here in Maryland, the last few days have had temperatures in the 50’s & 60’s- my kind of spring weather for sure! 

I also wanted to share with those of you who follow my blog, I have not been posting as frequently as I would like.  My hubby, Dave has been battling five different cancers over the last 20 years and the most recent cancer was just diagnosed on Monday, March 7^th.  After exhibiting increasingly rapid dementia type symptoms (over the course of about a week), it was discovered that he had a primary brain tumor the size of a lemon in his left frontal lobe.

Dave had brain surgery on Wednesday, March 9^th and they were not able to remove all of the tumor (due to blood vessels that were intertwined within the mass).  He is being transported (hopefully today) from Johns Hopkins to a rehab center near my home and my prayers are that he would get stronger physically, so I can bring him home to be with me.

We know that the Lord has the perfect plan for us, and while I may wish to keep my hubby here with me on this earth, if the Lord decides to take him home to heaven, I know that it would be far better for Dave.  Unfortunately, Dave will never regain his short-term and some of his long-term memory (or possibly the ability to speak) again.

One of our favorite verses is
“For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”   Philippians 1:21 (NKJV)

Thanks for the chance to share a bit with my followers- I feel like we are family even though we may never have a chance to meet here on earth :-)

Also, many of you know that I enjoy participating with online challenges and will be linking this card to one of my favorite challenge sites, Retro Rubber Blog Challenge #178 “Anything Goes”.  

The Retro Rubber Blog Challenge requires that you use a stamp that is at least one year old (one of my goals as well).  The sentiment on this image from Stamp Simply is many years old as well as the main Power Poppy digital floral image.  FYI- I had this image printed and hand colored in my stash since 2019 (when my hubby had his bladder/prostate removal surgery),

Other than the time it took to hand color/watercolor this image, the card took very little time to create!

To create this card:

Using a editing software (I used the retired Stampin’’ Up! My Digital Studio), download the digital Tulips in Hobnail Pitcher image from Power Poppy by Marcella, resize and print onto white cardstock.

Hand color the image with watercolor pencils and water-based markers.  I used a water soluble graphic pencil as well for the shadow area (or you could use a black watercolor pencil).  Once you are satisfied with the colors, die cut the panel with a stitched rectangle die.

De-static the lower right hand area for the panel with an embossing powder tool.  Ink the verse sentiment from the Fear Not clear stamp set  (Stamp Simply) with Versafine Black Onyx ink, stamp onto the prepared area, apply embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.  I just love the fonts used in the Stamp Simply Fear Not stamp set, don't you?  Plus this verse is also one of our favorites! 

Layer the main focal image panel onto black cardstock and trim close to the edge.

Layer a piece of designer paper (approx. 4” x 5 ¼”) onto a 4 ¼” x 5 ½” piece of black cardstock and mount onto a white card base.

Adhere the main focal image panel to the card front.

Use a clear glitter marker to add shimmer to the tulips and you are done!

So easy and flat for mailing!

CC800_CC761 Come Near To God

I have been busy this week creating a few cards for the #800 Color Challenge at Splitcoaststampers (SCS). 

Normally, the SCS Color Challenge consists of one set of colors but this week to celebrate the milestone of 800 challenges (wow!) they have six different color combos (one for each hostess).

I did not think I would have time to participate with all the combos but decided to make that a challenge for myself :-)  I was able to complete them all and will be posting each card in a separate post.

In order to save time (posting is so time consuming for me, lol!), I will be summarizing the creative instructions.  If you have any questions about any of the techniques or steps taken , please let me know in the comments.

This card uses the C800_CC761  Night of Navy, Rich Razzleberry and Seaside Spray along with the dessert option of heat embossing.

I decided to watercolor the Everything's Rosy digi image (Power Poppy by Marcella)  and pair it with a heat embossed sentiment from Words of Encouragement (Stamp Simply).

The image and sentiment were die cut and matted onto navy cardstock before using the Splitcoaststampers SC303 Sketch for the layout (another one of my personal challenges is to make a card with every one of the SCS Sketch layouts- this sketch was from 2011).  

I am also linking this card to the Allsorts #581/#582 "Flowers All Over" Challenge and the Word Art Wednesday #448-#449 "Anything Goes" Challenge.

Sending Peace Kitty

This card was designed a few items that I had in my stash – the sentiment had been printed off a while ago and I also had the little die cut black kitty and tree ready to go.

I was inspired by the Splitcoaststampers SC742 Sketch for the layout and will also be linking to the Power Poppy “”Rock That Mojo” Challenge (of course, the sketch was my initial “mojo”).

I also wanted to participate with the the Joy of Sets #019 Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge (bottom row across  Kraft-Jewel-Lace) along with the JustAdd Ink #513 “Just Add Two: Flowers-Trees-Texture” Challenge (Tree and Texture).

If you have not had chance to check out the above challenge sites yet, I hope you will do so- tremendous inspiration from all!

To create this card:

Using Distress Oxide Inks- I used Tumbled Glass, Broken China and Picked Raspberry, tap the ink onto a silicone craft mat, spritz with water and press a piece of white cardstock into the ink.  Continue to layer ink until you are satisfied with the results, using a heat tool to dry the panel between each layer.

Cut the panel into four pieces, mount onto black cardstock and trim close to the edges.

Print out the digi sentiment from Roses & Chamomile (Power Poppy) onto white cardstock, press the cardstock into the distress oxide inks (as in the step above) and dry with a heat tool.  Die cut with a stitched circle die, mount onto another circle die cut from black cardstock.

Ink the Dictionary background stamp with Versafine™ Onyx Black ink, stamp onto kraft cardstock, heat set the ink with a heat tool and die cut with a stitched rectangle die. 

Adhere the crochet lace and strip of white seam binding (wrapping the ends behind the panel). 

Add the four strips of the oxide background with dimensional foam (or chipboard) along with the mounted sentiment onto the panel.

Adhere the die cut tree and tiny kitty die and mount the seam binding bow with the wooden button in the center.

Finish off the card with a few pearls around the bottom edge of the sentiment.

Be Still and Know

This morning I am sharing a fairly simple Mixed Media card designed with the Ultimate Poppy digi image by Power Poppy by Marcella for the main floral image and the sentiment is from the Words of Encouragement stamp set by Stamp Simply.

I wanted to participate with the Color Throwdown #600 Red, Green, Black and White Challenge and decided to incorporate those colors into the design.  

Wow, congratulations to The Color Throwdown for their 600th challenge!  Being a coordinator as well as one the Design Team for The Card Concept Challenge, trust me, making it to your 600th challenge is quite an accomplishment!!  

I am also participating with the Retro Rubber #138 "Anything Goes" Challenge- I have had this image since May of 2019 and never used it yet plus the sentiment is also one I have had for over a year (one of the requirements of the Retro Rubber Blog Challenge is to use stamps/images over a year old:-)).  Which, as you know, is one of my main goals- love their challenges!

To create this card:

Print the Ultimate Poppy image onto white cardstock (I used the retired My Digital Studio from Stampin’ Up! to import the image, resize a tiny bit and printed onto a coated white cardstock).  If you do not have a photo editing software, you can even import digital images in to Word and print them out.

The image was colored with multiple layers of watercolor pencils and water based markers in black, red and green.  The background has a blue base layer before covering heavily with a black watercolor pencil (several layers) and dabbing with a wet paper towel to achieve texture.

The panel was die cut with a stitched rectangle die, the lower corner was prepped with an embossing powder tool .

The sentiment from Stamp Simply sentiment was stamped with embossing ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder.

The panel was layered onto white cardstock, trimmed and layered onto black cardstock, trimmed and repeated again onto white ,then black before mounting onto a white card base.

The card was finished off using a clear glitter pen on the petals and a white paint pen for the flower center.

Create In Me A Pure Heart

I am sharing a card this evening that was designed using a digital image from Power Poppy by Marcella that was hand colored with watercolor pencils along with water-based markers.

I decided to participate with the Power Poppy “Rule of Thirds” Challenge, the Simon Says Wednesday “Anything Goes” Challenge and The House That Stamps Built M1320 Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge (left column down - Die Cut or Punch-Embossing- Ribbon or Twine).

To create this card:

Import the digital image from Power Poppy into a Word document or Photo Editing Software (I used the retired My Digital Studio from Stampin’ Up!). Resize the image, print out onto white cardstock and color with watercolor pencils and water-based markers.

Add a bit of shimmer with a clear glitter pen to the flower petals.

De-static the lower left corner of the panel with an embossing powder tool, stamp the sentiment from Stamp Simply with Versafine™ Onyx Black ink, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Die cut the floral panel and a piece of designer paper with stitched horizontal strip dies.

Mount onto a piece of black cardstock,  and trim close to edge.  Add the strips of black twine and finish off with the looped bow and taupe button.

TCC136 Bright Blooms

Welcome to The Card Concept #136 {Bright Florals} Challenge! 

I love the texture of the tiled background as well as all of the beautiful, bright blossoms and I was inspired to create a fairly clean Mixed Media card! 

I am also participating with the Simon Says Monday "Going Around in Circles" Challenge along with the Word Art Wednesday #440-#441 "Anything Goes" Challenge and the Retro Rubber Challenge Blog #135 Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge (top across Watercolor-Circles- Die Cut and diagonal Watercolor-Embossing- Bright Colors). 


I used the retired SU! set, Choose Happiness which is several years old as well as the older digi set, Tulips in Hobnail Pitcher (this is at least two years old).  

To create this card:

Print out the Tulips in Hobnail Pitcher (Power Poppy by Marcella) onto white cardstock.  Color the image using watercolor pencils, water-based markers and water soluble graphite pencils.

Die cut the image with a stitched circle die and using distress oxide ink, lightly stencil the background.

Mount the circle onto a die-cut black circle. Apply shimmer with a clear shimmer pen to the petals and a green shimmer pen to the leaves.

On a piece of watercolor paper, use turquoise watercolor powder along with distress oxide inks and distress stains to add color to the background.  Dry with a heat tool and emboss with a  3D Tin Tile embossing folder.

Add additional color with distress stain, dry with the heat tool and once you are satisfied with the color, apply pearl texture paste to add shimmer.  Distress the edges with a distressing tool and mount onto a piece of black cardstock.

Adhere the background panel to a white card base, add the focal image with dimensional foam and add the embossed sentiment to finish off the card.
