TCC219 I Will Give You Rest

Hi Friends!

Welcome back to The Card Concept!  We are starting our monthly challenges again with our September #219 Butterflies and Blooms with two new designers on the team!

We hope that you will take the time to check out the Design Team's cards for even more inspiration!

I was inspired by the florals and colors for my simple Mixed Media card and I decided to pull out a few of my retired Stampin’ Up! sets- Summer Silhouettes, En Francais along with the sentiment from Words of Encouragement from Stamp Simply.

I have been trying to ink up some of my older stamps and thought that this set would be perfect for the florals/background on this card.  I also have not had a chance to play around with my oxide inks in a while.

If you follow my blog, you know that I enjoy playing along with other online challenges and will be linking this card to the As You Like It "Favourite- Layered or Flat and Why?" Challenge.

I tend to gravitate to layered cards and love using lace and ribbon along with pearls.  The more layers, the more for me!

To create this card:

Using distress oxides (the colors I used are listed below), layer the inks onto a piece of white cardstock using a stencil brush.

Dry the inks with a heat tool before stamping the floral images using Versafine Black Onyx ink, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Continue layering the floral images with the above process, applying white embossing powder to some of the petals.

Ink the background image from Summer Silhouettes with Crushed Olive Distress Oxide ink and repeatedly stamp over the background (gently wipe off the ink from the floral tops).  Apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Ink the background stamp, En Francais with Abandoned Coral Distress Oxide ink and randomly press over the background.

Once satisfied with the background, trim to approximately 3.75” x 5”.  Mount onto a piece of white cardstock, trim close to the edges.  Mount onto a piece of black cardstock, trim once more.

Add a strip of white crochet lace to the card front.

Adhere a piece of black and white checked ribbon to the card front, wrapping the ends behind the card front.

Mount the entire card panel onto a white card base.

De-static a piece of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool, stamp the verse sentiment from Words of Encouragement with Versafine Onyx Black ink, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Once the embossing has cooled, die cut the sentiment with a stitched circle die.

Mount onto black cardstock (I die cut two circles from the same circle die, layering for a small frame behind the sentiment).

Adhere to the card front using dimensional foam and add a few pearls to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets: Words of Encouragement (Stamp Simply); En Francais and Summer Silhouettes (retired Stampin’ Up!)

Inks/Mediums: Versafine Black Onyx, Distress Oxide- Abandoned Coral, Mustard Seed, Ripe Persimmon, Crushed Olive

Cardstock/Paper: White, Black

Accessories/Tools: Gemini, Jr., MFT Stitched Circle Dies, Stencil Brushe, Embossing Powder Tool, Clear and White Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, White Crochet Lace (Hobby Lobby), Black and White Checked Ribbon, Pearls

I hope you have had a chance to stop by The Card Concept to see how the rest of the Design Team were inspired as well as check out the other challenge gallery entries! Gorgeous work from everyone!

We hope you are inspired to create a card and join us for our #219 Butterflies and Blooms at The Card Concept!  The deadline to play along is Monday, October 6th at noon EDT.

TCC216 Charm is Deceptive

Hi Friends!

It’s time for our April #216 “Spring Celebrations” Challenge at The Card Concept!

I was inspired by the colors, graphic elements and the leaves on the wall for my Clean and Layered Mixed Media card.

I bought the Bird Collage 4 image from Impression Obsession several years ago and have not had a chance to ink it up in years.  I love this sweet image and was so sad to hear that I/O has gone out of business (but, you may find this stamp on the secondary market).

I decided to pair the bird image with a verse from Words of Encouragement (Stamp Simply) and a stencil from Simon Says Stamp.

I enjoy playing along with online challenges and will be linking this card to the Tic-Tac-Toe #267 Challenge (middle row across Pastels-Free-Birds or Chicks) and the Allsorts #820 Anything Goes optional Spring Flowers Challenge.

This card was so simple to create-

Heat emboss the bird image onto white cardstock, mask the bird and apply distress oxide inks with the stencil for the background.

Add the black gingham ribbon and embossed sentiment, finish off the card with shimmer paint and pearls.

FYI- I created the card first without the shimmer paint (see above and in the header), but decided to add it to the background to soften it a bit.  I diluted the frost white shimmer paint with water and used a water brush to layer the paint over the entire background and bird.  It is hard to see in the photo below but it gives a soft shimmer over the entire card.

Another fairly quick and flat card for mailing!

I hope you have stopped by The Card Concept to see how the rest of the Design Team were inspired as well as check out the other challenge gallery entries!

Stamp Sets: Words of Encouragement (Stamp Simply), Bird Collage 4 (retired I/O Stamps)

Inks/Mediums: Versafine Black Onyx, Distress Oxide Inks- Broken China, Scattered Straw, Mowed Lawn; Stampin’ Write Markers- Hello Honey; Frost White Shimmer Paint

Cardstock/Paper: White, Black

Accessories/Tools: Gemini, Jr., My Favorite Things Stitched Circle STAX Dies, Debra Stencil (Simon Says Stamp), Stencil Brush, Embossing Powder Tool, Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, ⅜” Black Gingham Ribbon, Pearls

Thanks again for taking the time to stop by! I hope you are inspired to create a card and join us for our #216 Spring Celebrations at The Card Concept!  The deadline to play along is Monday, May 11th at noon EDT.

TCC215 Floral Wreath

Hi Friends!

It’s time for our March #215 “Floral Heart” Challenge at The Card Concept!

I was inspired by the florals in our photo and the clean white background for my Clean and Layered card.

I bought the Be Bold Blooms dies (Spellbinders) a few months ago and have not had a chance to use them yet. (I thought that this challenge would be a perfect chance).

This card was so simple to create, just die cut the flowers and leaves from colored cardstock, layer onto a white background and add a heat embossed sentiment.

That’s it, simple and flat for mailing!

For those of you who follow my blog, you know that I do enjoy playing along with other online challenges and will be linking this card to The Flower Challenge #100 Add Circles (I thought my wreath would be a great circle :-)).

I hope you have stopped by The Card Concept to see how the rest of the Design Team were inspired as well as check out The Flower Challenge gallery to see their gorgeous DT and gallery entries!

TCC208 Hello Summer- Be Still and Know

Hi Friends!

I had so much fun in creating my previous card, I decided to create a second card for our #208 {Hello Summer} Challenge at the The Card Concept!

Just a reminder, this will be our last challenge before our summer break and we are looking forward to seeing what inspires your card from our inspiration photo!

Will it be the overall theme, the colors, textures, stripes, pillows, patterns or something else?

I was inspired by the theme, colors and textures and decided to pull out the Stamp Simply set, Words of Encouragement for the verse sentiment and paired it with two retired Stampin’ Up! sets, Nature’s Wonder and the Wonderfully Worn background stamp for my fairly clean and layered Mixed Media card.

As I mentioned previously, it has been a goal of mine to try to ink up some of my many retired stamp sets and I have always loved this sand dollar image and the background stamp was used as a grunge element.

I also enjoy participating with online challenges and will be playing along with one of my favorite challenges, the Word Art Wednesday #651-#652 “Anything Goes” Challenge.

I hope you will take a moment to visit our challenge blog and see how the rest of the Design Team were inspired- they are so creative!!

To create this card:

On a piece of white cardstock, de-static with an embossing powder tool, ink the retired Nature’s Wonder image with Versafine Black Onyx ink, stamp onto the prepared panel, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Once the embossing has cooled, watercolor with distress oxide inks and trimming the image close to the edge.

Mount the image onto black cardstock, trim and mount onto white cardstock, trim once more and mount onto black cardstock.

Press Broken China and Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide ink onto a silicone mat.  Lightly spritz with water, press a piece of white cardstock into the ink to create the background.

Use a heat tool to dry the panel.

Ink the Wonderfully Worn background with Versafine Black Onyx Ink, carefully press the panel along the background stamp in various places to create the distressing on the panel.

Once the ink has dried, de-static the lower right hand area, ink the sentiment with Versafine Black Onyx and stamp onto the prepared panel.  Apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Trim the panel to approx. 4” x 5 ¼”, mount onto black cardstock.

Add the ¼” black grosgrain ribbon onto the panel and wrap the ends behind the panel.

Mount the entire background panel onto aqua cardstock before adhering to a white card base.

Add the layered sand dollar image onto the card front with dimensional foam.

Add Frost White Shimmer Paint with a water brush to add shimmer to the sand dollar image along with a few black rhinestones to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets: Words of Encouragement (Stamp Simply), retired Nature’s Wonder, Wonderfully Worn background (Stampin’ Up!)

Inks/Mediums: Versafine Onyx Black,  Tim Holtz™ Distress Oxide Ink- Broken China, Peacock Feathers, Hickory Smoke; Frost White Shimmer Paint

Cardstock/Paper: White, Black, Bermuda Bay

Accessories/Tools: Embossing Powder Tool, Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, AquaPainter™, ¼” Black Grosgrain Ribbon, Black Rhinestones

Be Still and Know Double Z Fold

Hi Friends!

I hope all of you are having a great week so far!

Today I am sharing a card that could be for sympathy or an encouragement card designed using a Double Z Fold tutorial from Splitcoaststampers using stamps, dies and paper all from Stamp Simply.

The new Studio Light In Loving Memory 8x8 paper pad has several beautiful scenes that are so easy to create cards by just stamping a sentiment.

Once you create the base from the tutorial (which is very easy), just cut the designer paper to fit the panels and heat emboss the sentiment from The Good News on the middle  panel (main part of the card).

To create the belly band, stamp the sentiment from Words of Encouragement with Versafine Onyx Black ink onto the kraft colored designer paper from the paper pad, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool. Once cooled, die cut with a circle die.

Mount onto a circle die cut from espresso cardstock.

Trim a piece of espresso cardstock to fit somewhat loosely around the card, attach the ends together so that they are in the back.

Add a strip of seam binding around the entire strip, adhere the crochet lace to the lower part on the front and mount the sentiment layer with dimensional foam.

Fold the card and add the belly band to finish off the card.

I enjoy playing along with online challenges and will be linking this card to the Simon Says Wednesday “Add A Sentiment” Challenge and the Word Art Wednesday #637-638 “Anything Goes” Challenge.

If you have not had a chance to check out the galleries at the challenge sites above, or my Sister Design Team cards on the Stamp Simply blog, I hope you will do so- gorgeous inspiration from all!!

TCC204 Be Still and Know

Hi Friends!

Welcome to our #204 {Winter Warmth} Challenge at the The Card Concept!

I was inspired by this beautiful rug- the moose, the nature, colors and textures for my Mixed Media card.

I decided to pull out an older retired Stampin’ Up! set, Walking in the Wild and paired it with a verse sentiment from Words of Encouragement (available at Stamp Simply).

We are looking forward to seeing what inspires your card! Will it be the overall theme, the colors, items in the photo/textures or something else?

If you have not already visited us at The Card Concept, I hope you will find the time to do so.  Such wonderful inspiration from the rest of my DT sisters!

One of my goals (that has been on the back burner for a while, lol!) is to create a card for each of the 990+ sketches from Splitcoaststampers (I used the SC992 sketch for the layout- I did modify a bit with the sentiment :-)).

I also like to participate with online challenges and will be linking this card to the Simon Says Monday “Tie It Up” Challenge, Addicted to Stamps and More #461 Make Your Mark Challenge and the Can You Handle the Pressure Feb 2024 “Anything Goes with an optional twist of Reds and/or Pinks” Challenge.

To create this card:

De-static two pieces of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool, ink the moose image and verse sentiment with Versafine Onyx Black ink, stamp onto the prepared panels, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Die cut the verse sentiment with a stitched circle die and mount onto a circle of espresso cardstock (die cut with a slightly larger circle die).

Water-color the moose with water-based markers.

Use an AquaPainter™ with Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide ink for the sky behind the moose image and also on the verse sentiment.

Die cut the moose image with a stitched square die.

Mount onto a piece of espresso cardstock and trim close to the edge.

Emboss a piece of kraft cardstock with the retired Boho Chic Embossing Folder (retired Stampin’ Up!).

Trim and mount onto a piece of espresso cardstock.

Create the banners from retired Stampin’ Up! designer paper (I hand cut the banner ends).  Distress the ends before adhering the three banners together.

Wrap the dark hemp twine around the top of the banners before adhering to the card front.

Adhere the moose image along with the sentiment with dimensional foam.

Add the dark hemp twine bow and add a button to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets: Words of Encouragement  (Stamp Simply), Walk in the Wild (retired Stampin’ Up!)

Inks/Mediums: Versafine Onyx Black,  Water-based Markers- Arteza and Stampin’ Up! browns, greens; Tim Holtz Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide

Cardstock/Paper: White, Early Espresso; retired Stampin’ Up! Designer Papers

Accessories/Tools: Gemini, Jr. , My Favorite Things- Stitched Circle and Stitched Square STAX, Sizzix Circle Dies, retired Boho Chic Embossing Folder (Stampin’ Up!), Embossing Powder Tool, Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Polished Dark Brown Hemp Twine, Button

Thanks again for taking the time to stop by! I hope you are inspired to create a card and join us for our #204 {Winter Warmth} Challenge at The Card Concept!  The deadline to play along is Monday, March 11th at noon EDT.

TCC194 Create in Me

Hi Friends!

Welcome to our #194 {Spring Bouquet} Challenge at The Card Concept! The Card Concept is a bi-weekly photo inspiration challenge.  We would love for you to create a card based on our inspiration photo and join us!

Isn’t this a beautiful spring table setting? I was inspired by the soft pinks, blues, textures of the flowers/nests and silver accents for my Shabby and Vintage Mixed Media card.

Those of you who follow my blog know that I enjoy participating with other online challenges.  I know how much work goes into maintaining a challenge blog and want to give them support as well as enjoy seeing all of their Design Team creations and galleries :-)

I will be linking this card to the As You Like It “Favorite Flower (and Why) Challenge (I like tulips, they are a sign of spring and one of my Mother’s favorites as well) along with the Tic Tac Toe #226 Featured Designer Elizabeth’s Challenge (left column down- Flowers, Embossing, Encouragement) and the Word Art Wednesday #593-#594 “Anything Goes” Challenge.

If you have not already visited us at The Card Concept, I hope you will find the time to do so.  Gorgeous inspiration from the rest of the DT as well as the other challenge sites.

This card was fun and fairly easy to make.

Trim a piece of the pale pink designer paper from the Echo Park My Favorite Spring 6x6 Paper Pad to approx. 4” x 5 ¼”.  Emboss with the Darice Vine Pattern Embossing Folder.

Apply Frost White Shimmer Paint over the entire surface (I used an AquaPainter) and distress the edges with scissors and/or a distressing tool.

Tear a piece of the blue gingham patterned paper (from the My Favorite Spring Pad).

De-static the lower right hand area, stamp the sentiment from Words of Encouragement with Versafine Onyx Black ink, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Distress the edges and add to the embossed pink background panel.  Mount the layered background panel onto a piece of white cardstock (trimming close to the edge).

Adhere a piece of white Venise Lucia .75” lace and blue seam binding (wrapping the ends of the seam binding behind the panel).

Mount onto a 4 ¼” x 5 ½” piece of the baby blue designer paper and adhere to a white card base.

De-static a piece of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool, ink the tulip image from Get Well Tulip Bundle with Versafine Onyx Black ink, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Color the tulip with water-based markers and die cut with the coordinating die (also cutting two additional tulips from white cardstock to layer behind the stamped image).

Add a looped piece of silver metallic string to the card front and mount the tulip with dimensional foam.

Die cut a piece of lace from white cardstock using the Tim Holtz Crochet Die and add a piece to the upper left hand corner.

Finish off the card with a few pearls in the upper right hand corner.

A spring time card for Mother’s Day, encouragement or “just because”.

Stamp Sets:  Get Well Tulip Bundle, Words of Encouragement (Stamp Simply)

Inks/Mediums: Versafine Onyx Black; Stampin’ Write Markers- Powder Oink, Melon Mambo, Rose Red, Granny Apple Green, Lemonlime Twist

Cardstock/Paper: White, Echo Park My Favorite Spring 6x6
