TCC216 Charm is Deceptive

Hi Friends!

It’s time for our April #216 “Spring Celebrations” Challenge at The Card Concept!

I was inspired by the colors, graphic elements and the leaves on the wall for my Clean and Layered Mixed Media card.

I bought the Bird Collage 4 image from Impression Obsession several years ago and have not had a chance to ink it up in years.  I love this sweet image and was so sad to hear that I/O has gone out of business (but, you may find this stamp on the secondary market).

I decided to pair the bird image with a verse from Words of Encouragement (Stamp Simply) and a stencil from Simon Says Stamp.

I enjoy playing along with online challenges and will be linking this card to the Tic-Tac-Toe #267 Challenge (middle row across Pastels-Free-Birds or Chicks) and the Allsorts #820 Anything Goes optional Spring Flowers Challenge.

This card was so simple to create-

Heat emboss the bird image onto white cardstock, mask the bird and apply distress oxide inks with the stencil for the background.

Add the black gingham ribbon and embossed sentiment, finish off the card with shimmer paint and pearls.

FYI- I created the card first without the shimmer paint (see above and in the header), but decided to add it to the background to soften it a bit.  I diluted the frost white shimmer paint with water and used a water brush to layer the paint over the entire background and bird.  It is hard to see in the photo below but it gives a soft shimmer over the entire card.

Another fairly quick and flat card for mailing!

I hope you have stopped by The Card Concept to see how the rest of the Design Team were inspired as well as check out the other challenge gallery entries!

Christmas Peace and Joy

Hi Friends!

Today I am sharing another Christmas card using the Vintage Christmas Background and Christmas Joy Bundle (all from Stamp Simply)!

I enjoy playing along with online challenges and will be linking this card to the Cards 4 Galz "#240 Christmas" ChallengeThe Tic-Tac-Toe #262 “Featured Designer Betty” Challenge (diagonal top right down  Metallic- Embossing (I have wet and dry)- Die Cuts) and the Word Art Wednesday #677-#678 “Anything Goes” Challenge.

If you have not had a chance to stop by the Stamp Simply blog or the other challenge sites yet , I encourage you to do so- wonderful inspiration from all!

To create this card:

De-static a piece of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool.

Using Versamark ink, stamp the Vintage Christmas Background onto the prepared panel, apply gold embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Using the Vintage Ovals and Twigs die, die cut the coordinating oval from the background.

De-static the oval area with an embossing powder tool, ink the bow image from the Christmas Joy Bundle with Versamark, apply gold embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Repeat the above steps for the small ornament and sentiment (from Vintage Christmas Background).

Trim the embossed background panel, mount onto a piece of white cardstock and trim again, close to the edge.

De-static another piece of white cardstock and repeat the above steps with the larger ornament image.  Once the embossing has cooled, die cut with the coordinating ornament die.

Mount the background panel onto a piece of copper metallic cardstock and adhere to a white card base.

Die cut the twigs from copper metallic cardstock.

Adhere a few twigs behind the oval sentiment die cut before re-positioning it onto the card front.

Add the additional copper twigs directly to the card front.

TTTC253 In All Your Ways

Hi Friends!

Woohoo!  I have the honor of being the Guest Designer for the Tic-Tac-Toe #253 Challenge!  I love this challenge plus the winner has the opportunity to be a future Guest Designer, what fun!

This challenge board has so many great opportunites! I decided to pull out a few of my retired stamp sets (one of my goals is to create cards at times with my older stamps) and used the middle row across on the board- Flowers- Scoring and Die Cuts, plus I also added twine for this Vintage style floral card.

To create this card:

Score a few diagonal lines on a piece of kraft cardstock (FYI- I scored four lines at the top left to lower right hand side and six lines in the same direction from the middle left to lower right hand corner- it is a bit difficult to see the scoring in the photo).

Trim the scored panel to 4” x 5 ¼”.

Ink the sentiment with Versafine Onyx Black ink, stamp onto the lower left hand area of the panel, heat set the ink with a heat tool.

Add a knotted piece of twine between the scored lines (I knotted the twine on the ends but not under the focal image area).  Wrap the ends behind the cardstock, then layer onto a piece of black cardstock (trimming close to the edge – approx. 4 ⅛” x 5 ⅜”).

Mount the entire panel onto an A2 vanilla card base (4 ¼” x 5 ½” tent fold).

Ink the floral image with Versamark Onyx Black ink (I used the retired Butterfly Basics stamp set from Stampin’ Up!), stamp onto vanilla cardstock and heat set the ink with a heat tool.

Color the floral image using water-based markers, and once satisfied with the coloring, die cut with a pierced oval circle die.

Die cut another oval from black cardstock to layer behind the die cut floral image, then die cut a scalloped oval from vanilla cardstock to layer behind the black oval (to complete the floral focal image).

Adhere the layered floral image onto the card front with dimensional foam.

Using black cardstock, create the “photo corners” using scissors- cut a small square from scraps, then cut the angles (I do have a photo corner punch but I wanted smaller corners).

Mount the two photo corners to the opposite corners and  add a pearl to the center to finish off the card.

This completes the “original” card card that I submitted to the Tic-Tac-Toe challenge coordinator.

I tend to design with more of a Shabby Chic style and decided that I wanted to add more to the background around the flower, so I masked the floral image, inked the honeycomb background stamp (from Butterfly Basics) with Versafine Onyx Black, stamped off a bit before stamping around the floral image.

After stamping the honeycomb background, I added the postscript image (also from the retired Butterfly Basics set) stamped with Broken China Distress Oxide ink.

I am also joining in with the Double D Challenge “Basket Full of Posies”- I was inspired by the flowers and colors of the basket.

Stamp Sets: Butterfly Basics (retired Stampin’ Up!). Scripture Medley 2 (retired Verve Stamps)

Ink/Mediums: Versafine™ Onyx Black; Stampin’ Write Markers-Cajun Craze, Calypso Coral, Mossy Meadow, Wild Wasabi; Tim Holtz Broken China Distress Oxide

Cardstock/Paper: Vanilla, Black, Kraft; retired Park Lane Designer Paper (Stampin’ Up!)

Accessories: Scoring Tool, Heat Tool, Gemini, Jr.™, Divinity Designs Pierced Oval Dies, MFT Die-namics Oval Open Scallop Doily, Oval Dies (retired SU!), Natural Twine, Pearls

So which one is your favorite?  The first one with the "clean" background, or the second card with a "distressed" backgrpund?  Curious minds need to know, lol!

Thanks again for taking the time to visit- I hope you will be able to join us at Tic-Tac-Toe#253 Challenge!  Have a blessed week/weekend, sweet friends!

Stamp Simply July 2024 Boho Fall Release- Grateful

Hi Friends!

This week we have been sharing cards using the brand new Boho Fall Release sets at Stamp Simply

Today I am sharing a card designed with the brand new Boho Fall Leaves Bundle and other supplies (all from Stamp Simply)

This card was fairly easy to create- plus minimal layering and the large leaf image and sentiment are fairly flat as well for mailing.

To create this card:

On a piece of 4” x 5 ¼” piece of white cardstock, score three lines on the diagonal in the upper right hand area of the panel and the lower left hand area (using the score lines for the layers on the Splitcoaststampers Sketch SC1003 for the layout).

Mount the scored panel onto a piece of black cardstock, trimming close to the edge.

Wrap a few strips of bakers twine around the upper right hand corner and adhere the panel to a white card base.

De-static a piece of black cardstock with an embossing powder tool, stamp the “Grateful” sentiment with Versamark ink onto the prepared cardstock, apply white embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Die cut the sentiment with the Fishtail Sentiment Banners dies ( die- cutting an additional black die cut shape to layer behind the sentiment) and adhere to the card front with dimensional foam.

De-static a piece of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool, ink the leaf image from the Boho Fall Leaves Bundle with Versafine Onyx Black ink and stamp onto the prepared white cardstock.  Apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Watercolor the leaf image with distress inks and watercolor pencils.

Once satisfied with the coloring, die cut the leaf with the coordinating die (cutting an additional leaf from white cardstock to layer behind the colored die-cut image).

Mount the layered leaf die cut onto the card front with dimensional foam.

Add a strip of designer paper into the inside of the card base on the left hand side (I like to do this to use up some of my paper scraps) and adhere the bakers twine bow to finish off the card.

I enjoy playing along with online challenges and in addition to the Splitcoaststampers SC1003 Sketch Challenge, I will be participating with the Simon Says Monday “Add A Sentiment” Challenge, the Tic-Tac-Toe #252 “Featured Designer Betty” Challenge (Middle Row Down- Die-Cuts, Free, Sentiment) and the Word Art Wednesday #657-#658 “Anything Goes” Challenge.

Stamp Simply June 2024 New Release- Liberty Bell and Patriotic Background

Hi Friends!

Today, I am sharing a card designed using the brand new release stamp sets, Patriotic Background and the Liberty Bell Bundle from Stamp Simply

I love all of the patriotic stamp sets from Stamp Simply and both of these stamp sets are perfect for Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Veteran’s Day and other patriotic cards!

I decided to combine both of the new stamp sets into an easel fold card using vellum (sorry, it was a bit difficult to photograph due to the vellum overlay and this card does look better in person).

Those of you who follow my blog know that I enjoy participating in online card challenges and incorporated the Inkspirational #317 Word Prompt- Frame Challenge and the Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge Featured Designer Jeanie #249 (Left to Right Diagonal- Layers- Fun Fold- Gems or Sequins) .

I hope you will find the time to visit the above challenge sites for inspiration as well as the rest of my Design Team sisters at Stamp Simply- absolutely gorgeous cards by all!

To create this card:

Create the easel base (see tutorial at Splitcoaststampers here) by cutting a piece of 8 ½” x 11” white cardstock in half (each piece should be 4 ¼” x 11”).

Score one piece at 5 ½” and again at 2 ¾”.

For the card front – ink the Patriotic Background stamp using Versafine Black Onyx ink, stamp onto two separate pieces of white cardstock.

Color the background stamp images with water-color pencils. Once satisfied with the coloring, trim close to the edges of the images.

Layer one of the images onto dark navy cardstock.

Die cut a rectangle from white cardstock, vintage the edges using distress oxide ink.

Cut a piece of vellum to approx. 4 ⅛” x 5 ¼”.  De-static the lower right hand area with an embossing powder tool, stamp the verse sentiment from Liberty Bell using Versafine Black Onyx ink, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Layer the vellum behind the die cut frame and adhere to the card front.

Mount the card front onto the easel panel.

Use the second background image for the lower panel- cut the background above where the sentiment could be stamped and adhere to a piece of dark navy cardstock.

Trim pieces of white cardstock into thin strips (to create a frame), distressing with oxide ink to “antique” the cardstock.

Cut a piece of vellum to approx. 4 ⅛” x 3 ¾” , de-static the lower area of the vellum with an embossing powder tool, stamp the “Let Freedom Ring” sentiment from Liberty Bell using Versafine Black Onyx ink, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Adhere the vellum panel onto the background, adding the strips of distressed cardstock to the edges to create a frame.

Ink the bell, bow and wood image from the Liberty Bell Bundle with Versafine Black Onyx ink, stamp onto white cardstock and color with water-color pencils. Use a silver metallic paint pen to add highlights to the bell image.

Die cut each image with their coordinating die.  Assemble the bell, wood and bow image together and adhere to the card front with dimensional foam.

Add a strip of lace at the top of the card front.

Die cut a few stars from navy cardstock and add to the lower panel.

Add a strip of designer paper to cover up the rest of the card base on the lower panel and add a few red rhinestones to finish off the card.
