TTTC253 In All Your Ways

 

Hi Friends!

Woohoo!  I have the honor of being the Guest Designer for the Tic-Tac-Toe #253 Challenge!  I love this challenge plus the winner has the opportunity to be a future Guest Designer, what fun!

This challenge board has so many great opportunites! I decided to pull out a few of my retired stamp sets (one of my goals is to create cards at times with my older stamps) and used the middle row across on the board- Flowers- Scoring and Die Cuts, plus I also added twine for this Vintage style floral card.

To create this card: 

Score a few diagonal lines on a piece of kraft cardstock (FYI- I scored four lines at the top left to lower right hand side and six lines in the same direction from the middle left to lower right hand corner- it is a bit difficult to see the scoring in the photo).

Trim the scored panel to 4” x 5 ¼”.  

Ink the sentiment with Versafine Onyx Black ink, stamp onto the lower left hand area of the panel, heat set the ink with a heat tool.

Add a knotted piece of twine between the scored lines (I knotted the twine on the ends but not under the focal image area).  Wrap the ends behind the cardstock, then layer onto a piece of black cardstock (trimming close to the edge – approx. 4 ⅛” x 5 ⅜”).

Mount the entire panel onto an A2 vanilla card base (4 ¼” x 5 ½” tent fold).

Ink the floral image with Versamark Onyx Black ink (I used the retired Butterfly Basics stamp set from Stampin’ Up!), stamp onto vanilla cardstock and heat set the ink with a heat tool.

Color the floral image using water-based markers, and once satisfied with the coloring, die cut with a pierced oval circle die.

Die cut another oval from black cardstock to layer behind the die cut floral image, then die cut a scalloped oval from vanilla cardstock to layer behind the black oval (to complete the floral focal image).

Adhere the layered floral image onto the card front with dimensional foam.

Using black cardstock, create the “photo corners” using scissors- cut a small square from scraps, then cut the angles (I do have a photo corner punch but I wanted smaller corners).

Mount the two photo corners to the opposite corners and  add a pearl to the center to finish off the card.

This completes the “original” card card that I submitted to the Tic-Tac-Toe challenge coordinator.  

I tend to design with more of a Shabby Chic style and decided that I wanted to add more to the background around the flower, so I masked the floral image, inked the honeycomb background stamp (from Butterfly Basics) with Versafine Onyx Black, stamped off a bit before stamping around the floral image. 

After stamping the honeycomb background, I added the postscript image (also from the retired Butterfly Basics set) stamped with Broken China Distress Oxide ink.

I am also joining in with the Double D Challenge “Basket Full of Posies”- I was inspired by the flowers and colors of the basket.

RRCB206 Guest Designer- A True Friend

Hi Friends!

I am so honored to be a Guest Designer for The Retro Rubber Challenge Blog!  The Retro Rubber Challenge Blog is a bi-weekly challenge that focuses on stamps that are over one year old (or older). If you are chosen as a winner, you have a chance to Guest Design.

I decided to pull out a few Divinity Designs LLC stamps and dies (the iris stamp/die duo is over four years old).

For The Retro Rubber Challenge Blog #206 Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge, I used the middle row across Die Cut or Punch- Flowers- Embossing.  

I am also playing along with the Cards 4 Galz #198 “Mother’s Day (US) or Flowers for A Friend” Challenge and I incorporated the SplitcoaststampersSketch SC369 into the layout (another one of my goals was to create a card for each of the 950+ sketches at Splitcoaststampers). 

The black background was created using the Chalkboard Vine background stamp, sporadically stamped with Versamark ink, then heat embossed with white embossing powder.

The vertical green panel was also dry embossed with a lace embossing folder.

The white panel behind the iris is a piece of designer paper made to be sponged to allow the pre-embossed areas to shine through the panel.

The iris image was stamped with Versafine Onyx Black ink, heat embossed with clear embossing powder before being colored with water-based markers and fussy cut (this card was designed before the coordinating die was available).

Layers were cut on the diagonal (per the sketch) and the sentiment was also stamped and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.

Layer a piece of 1” Black Satin Ribbon, wrapping the ends behind the panel.

Silver metallic cord was looped before mounting the central panel for the fussy-cut iris.

Add a few pearls to finish off the card.

My Mother's favorite flower was irises and I think she would have loved this card. I miss her more each year and this fall, will be the 30th Anniversary of her homegoing to the Lord.

TTTC130 Grateful

Woohoo! I am excited to be the Guest Designer for the Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge #130!  

One of the perks of being chosen as the "Designer's Choice" at the Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge is that you can be a future Guest Designer!  I love participating with their challenge and am honored to have been chosen.

The card that I designed uses the diagonal column (Large Sentiment- Leaves- Heat Embossing).

I decided to pull out a stamp set/die combo that I purchased at least a year ago and have not had a chance to use yet- Lace Leaf Stamp Set and Grateful Leaves Dies (Concord and 9^th).  

I have been slowly making an effort to try to use stamps/dies that are in my "stash" and am thankful that I could use this set :-)

I also enjoy participating with online challenges and will also be linking this card to the Simon Says Monday “Stamp It” Challenge, Simon Says Wednesday “Sparkle and Shine” Challenge  along with the Word Art Wednesday #507-#508 “Anything Goes” Challenge.

To create this card:

De-static a piece of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool, stamp the lacy leaf image with Versamark™ ink onto the prepared panel, apply extra fine gold and copper embossing powder (I applied the gold first, making sure that I did not cover the entire leaf, then applied copper to the remaining areas).  Heat set the embossing powder with a heat tool.

Once the embossing has cooled, die cut the panel with a stitched embossing die, mount onto black cardstock, trim close to the edge and adhere to gold metallic cardstock.

Mount the panel onto a white card base.

Die cut the “Grateful” word from black cardstock and again, from two pieces of white cardstock.  Adhere the white dies together before adding the black die cut sentiment on top.

Mount the sentiment to the card front and use a clear glitter marker to add shimmer to the letters.

Add a few gold and white Nuvo™ Crystal Drops to finish off the card.

TTTC103 Guest Designer- Rejoice in the Lord Always

Woohoo- I am so thrilled to be the Guest Designer for the Tic-Tac-Toe #103 Challenge!

One of the “perks” of winning their challenge is that you are eligible to be a Guest Designer in the future- what an honor!

If you are not familiar with the Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge , every Thursday, they provide a new challenge board with elements that you can choose either in a row (or rows) or diagonally when designing your card. 

For this card, I decided to pull out a few of my older stamps and paired them with retired designer paper, miscellaneous washi tape and a few other supplies.  I included the items from the left row down (Splatter, Flowers, Green) along with the top row across (Splatter, Washi, Heat Embossing) into the design.

I am also linking to the Splitcoaststampers SC324 Sketch Challenge (from 2012), the Simon Says Wednesday “Beautiful Blooms” Challenge and the Word Art Wednesday #481-#482 “Anything Goes” Challenge.

To create this card:

Emboss a piece of green designer paper with a brocade embossing folder, distress the raised portions of the embossing with a sanding block, trim to approx. 4” x 5 ¼” and distress the edges.  Mount onto a 4 ¼” x 5 ½” piece of black cardstock and adhere to a white card base.

De-static a piece of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool, ink the floral stamp from Pretty Peonies (SugarPea Designs) with Versafine™ Onyx Black ink, stamp onto the prepared panel, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Once the embossing has cooled, watercolor the image with water-based markers and a water brush. 

Watercolor the background and add splatter with Tumbled Glass Distress Ink.

Die cut the image with a stitched rectangle die, mount onto black cardstock and trim close to the edge.

Add the strips of washi tape to the upper corner and mount the image onto the card front with dimensional foam (or chipboard).

De-static a piece of vellum, stamp the sentiment with Versafine™ Onyx Black ink, stamp onto the prepared panel, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Once the embossing has cooled, trim close to the sentiment, tear the edge and mount onto the card front.

Add a strip of washi tape to the corner and finish off the card with Nuvo™ Morning Dew drops.

The Joy of Sets- Guest Designer for October

Woohoo! I have the honor of being a Guest Designer at The Joy of Sets Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge for the month of October!  

When you play along with the #JOSTTT Challenge, and if your card is chosen as a winner, one of the “perks” is being a Guest Designer for a month- how cool is that?

This month’s challenge grid is below:

I decided to pull out some of my retired sets (many of you who follow me know that I am making a concentrated effort to ink up the sets that I own) and decided to use the weathervane image from DC Life’s Direction (My Favorite Things) and paired it with the  Scripture Medley 2 verse sentiment (Verve Stamps).  Actually, I think that this may only be the 2nd card I have created with the weathervane set and I have owned it since 2015- too many stamps and too little time!

I went with the first column down:  Black, Script, Ribbon plus the diagonal from the far right down- Stitches (Faux), Silhouette, Ribbon and the center row across (Script, Silhouette, Checks).  

Wow, I just realized that I also have the far-right down- Stitches, Checks and Glitter- see how easy a Tic-Tac-Toe challenge can be? 

I incorporated the Splitcoaststampers Sketch #473 Challenge (from 2014) into the design (my sentiment is shifted a bit since my bow was so large, lol!).

FYI- Another goal of mine is to create a card for each one of the SCS sketches which is now over 800 and thankfully, they do not expire :-) 

In addition to the SCS Sketch, I will also will be linking this card to the Word Art Wednesday #458-#459 “Anything Goes” Challenge.

To create this card-

Using Distress Oxide inks along with a stencil and stencil brush, blend the ink onto the white cardstock for the background- Tumbled Glass at the top, Peacock Feathers in the center and Twisted Citron for the bottom. 

While still keeping the stencil in place, use a clear glitter pen to blend some of the colors and add shimmer.

Once you are satisfied with the background, spritz a bit of water to add additional distressing and dry  thoroughly with a heat tool.

Ink the weathervane image with Versafine™ Black Onyx ink, stamp onto the background, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.  Repeat the same process with the verse sentiment stamping in the lower right-hand corner.

Die cut the sentiment with a smaller rectangle stitched die, then die cut the entire panel with a 4” x 5 ¼” stitched rectangle die, mount onto black cardstock (there will be an opening in this panel from the sentiment die cut).

Mount both onto black cardstock and trim close to the edge.

Add the black and white checked ribbon strip over the card panel (this will cover up some of the die cut sentiment area).

Mount the sentiment in the lower right-hand corner using chipboard (or dimensional foam) and adhere the entire panel onto a white card base.

Create small photo corners for the sentiment (I just cut these out by hand) and add the black and white checked bow to finish off the card.

RRCB130 Come To Me

I am so thrilled to be a Guest Designer for The Retro Rubber Challenge Blog #130 Sketch Challenge!

As many of you know, I have a personal goal to ink up some of my "unloved" sets as well as older favs,  so since one of the requirements for The Retro Rubber Blog Challenge Blog is to use stamps that are at least one year old,  I love playing along with their challenge!  

They have a very versatile sketch for the #130 Challenge- I think that this sketch would work for a CAS card as well as an elaborate layered card (I was inspired to create a fairly simple Mixed Media card).

For this challenge, I pulled out one of my favorite retired Stampin’ Up! sets, By the Tide (circa 2013) and combined it with a current Divinity Designs, LLC (formerly Our Daily Bread Designs) stamp set, Scripture Collection 4 (circa 2010). 

I am also playing along with the Simon Says Monday “A Bit ‘O Green” Challenge and 2 Craft CritterCrazies #36 “Anything Goes (with a critter) sponsored by Donna Ellis” Challenge.

To create this card:

De-static a piece of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool, ink the By the Tide images with Versafine™ Onyx Black Ink and stamp onto the panel.  Apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool. 

Once the embossing has cooled, water color with Distress Oxide inks as well as water-based markers (see below for colors).  Fussy cut each image and set aside.

For the background panel and center squares,  tap Distress Oxide inks onto a silicone mat (I used a combination ofTumbled Glass, Salty Ocean, Twisted Citron and Peacock Feathers), spritz lightly with water, mix the inks together a bit, press the panels into the ink and lift up to move the ink around the panels.

Repeat the steps above using a heat tool between layers until you are satisfied with the results.

Randomly stamp the script image from By The Tide using Black Soot Distress ink onto the larger background panel and the coral image with Peacock Feathers towards the bottom of the panel.

Trim the smaller panel for the three rectangles for the sketch, mount each rectangle onto black cardstock and trim close to the edge.

De-static the background panel with an embossing powder tool, ink the sentiment from Scripture Collection 4 with Versafine™ Onyx Black ink, stamp onto the panel, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Trim the panel, mount onto black cardstock, trim close to the edge and mount onto a white card base.

Mount the outside rectangles (per the sketch) directly to the card front and use dimensional foam to mount the center rectangle.

Add the fussy cut images directly to the card front and use dimensional foam to “pop” up the main fish in the center as well as the shell/seahorse in the lower left hand corner.

Use a clear glitter pen to add shimmer to the images as well as an extra fine white paint pen to add highlights to the eye of the center fish.

Finish off the card with a few clear Nuvo™ jewel drops.

RRCB89 Time To Celebrate

Woohoo! Today I am Guest Designing for the Retro Rubber Blog Challenge #89 "X's and O's" Challenge! 

I love participating with the Retro Rubber Blog Challenge since you are required to use a stamp/stamp set that is at least one year old! This encourages me to use my retired stamps and I also generally use older paper and embellishments as well :-)

For this card, I chose the diagonal column, left to right (Romantic-DSP-Gems/Enamel Shapes) and I decided to pull out the older Graphic 45 stamp set, Time to Flourish Set #2 for the sentiment along with Graphic 45 Time to Celebrate designer paper.  I think Graphic 45’s papers are so gorgeous, they basically create the cards for you :-)

I also am incorporating the Sweet Sketch Wed 2 #138 Sketch Challenge into the design and will be linking to the Word Art Wednesday #338-#339 “Anything Goes”Challenge.

If you have not had a chance to visit the Retro Rubber Blog Challenge site yet, or the other challenge galleries, I would encourage you to do so- wonderful ideas and projects by all!

To create this card:

1). Ink the “Happy Anniversary” sentiment from the Graphic 45 Time to Flourish Set #2 with archival black ink, stamp onto white cardstock, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.  Trim the sentiment and create the banner end either by hand or with a punch. Mount onto espresso cardstock and trim close to the edge.

2). Using the “Celebrate” stamp from the same stamp set, ink with green ink and stamp onto a piece of green designer paper.  Distress the edges a bit and mount onto a piece of espresso cardstock.

3). Die cut the two smaller rectangle panels with stitched rectangle dies, mount onto espresso cardstock and mount onto the card front.

4). Trim the cut-a-way image from the Graphic 45 Time to Celebrate designer paper, mount onto espresso cardstock, trim close to the edge.  Add ½ of a white paper doily to the back of the image, mount onto the card front with dimensional foam.

5). Wrap the polished hemp twine pieces across the card front, wrapping the ends behind the panel.  Mount the entire panel onto the white card base.  Add the hemp twine bow with the button (I used hot glue to adhere).

6). Mount the sentiment to the card front and add three rhinestones to finish off the card.
