TCC229 Sunflower Delight

 

Hi Friends!

Welcome to the #229 Sunflower Delight Challenge at The Card Concept! 

We are thrilled to be back from our summer break, and I absolutely love our challenge photo!  The sunflowers against the white brick background of the fireplace along with the black accents inspired me to create a Clean and Layered/ Mixed Media card.

Many of you who follow my blog know that I have a personal goal to use what I already own since I have so many stamps, designer papers, ribbons and lace, that I could create for many, many years before running out, lol! I am sure many of you can relate, lol!

I love Graphic45 papers and pulled out a sheet from their Let It Bee collection and paired it with a sentiment from Divinity Designs, LLC for this quick card.

I also like to participate in other online challenge blogs and will be linking this card to the Love Those Pretty Papers Sept 26 "Anything Goes - Fall Florals" Challenge and the Word Art Wednesday #768-#769 "Anything Goes" Challenge.  I absolutely love Graphic 45 paper and struggle to add anything to it, lol!

To create this card:

Trim a piece of the 8x8 Let It Bee designer paper to approx. 3 ¾” x 5” and mount it onto a piece of black cardstock.

Trim the black cardstock to approx. 4” x 5 ¼”.

Add a piece of white crochet lace to the background panel.

Adhere a piece of 1” black grosgrain ribbon over the lace edge, wrap the ends of the ribbon around the panel.

Mount the layered panel onto a 4 ¼” x 5 ½” card base.

De-static a piece of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool. 

Ink the verse sentiment from Scripture Collection 4 (Divinity Designs, LLC) with Versafine Black Onyx ink, stamp onto the prepared cardstock, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Once the embossing has cooled, die cut with stitched circle die.

Die cut two additional circles from black cardstock, layer together and adhere the sentiment over the black circle “frame”.

Mount onto the card front with dimensional foam (FYI- this sentiment covers up part of the words “Let It Bee” on the background paper).

Add a pearls to the sentiment layer to finish off the card.

Welcome to the #228a Summer by the Sea or #228b Christmas in July Challenge at The Card Concept!  

As I mentioned in my previous post, this is our last challenge for the summer, so we decided to have two inspiration photos.  Our challenge will run until the end of August, and we hope that you will be able to create a card (or two) and join us!

I was inspired by the Summer by the Sea theme for my second Clean and Layered/ Mixed Media card.  It has been a goal of mine to use stamp sets from my massive stash, lol!  I pulled out the retired Stampin’ Up! Uncharted Territory and paired it with a sentiment from The Sea (Creative Worship Stamps).

I enjoy playing along with other online challenges and will be linking this card to one of my favorites- Word Art Wednesday #756-#757 “Anything Goes” Challenge.

To create this card:

De-static a piece of white cardstock and ink the lighthouse and bird images from Uncharted Territory with Versafine Onyx Black ink and stamp onto the prepared panel.

Apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Using watercolor pencils along with markers, color the image.

Add the verse sentiment from The Sea, following the steps above,

Trim the panel to approx. 4 x 5 ⅛””, mount onto black cardstock, trim to 4 ⅛” x 5 ¼”, add the knotted twine (wrapping the ends behind the panel).

Mount onto a panel of red cardstock before adhering to the white card base.

Inks/Mediums: Versafine Black Onyx, Derwent Watercolor Pencils- Ultramarine 29; Graphite Water-based Pencil; Red Gel Pen

TCC247 Anchor For Our Souls

Welcome to the #227 {Seaside Adventures } Challenge at The Card Concept!  

Our inspiration photo has so many wonderful nautical themed items plus look at all the texture!  I was inspired by the compasses, the textures as well as the theme for my Mixed Media card.

Our challenge runs for the entire month and the deadline to create a card to join us in our gallery is Monday, June 8^th at noon EDT.

For the past few years, I have been trying to use stamps and supplies that I have in my stash (I have enough to last several lifetimes, lol!), so I decided to pull out one of my Gelli background prints (that I had created years ago) and used that panel for this quick card.

I enjoy participating in other online card challenges and am linking this card to the Cardz4Guyz #386 Squash It! Use An Embossing Folder Challenge  and the Word Art Wednesday #752-#753 Anything Goes Challenge.  I hope you have a chance to visit the above challenge sites and check out the gorgeous inspiration from all!  

To create this card:

Using a brayer with various acrylic/metallic paints, apply the paint to the gel plate, press a piece of watercolor paper into the paint (along with various items to press into the background to create your panels (here is a link to Gelli Arts YouTube channel -so many fun ways to use a gel pate). 

 Once you are satisfied with the background and the ink is dry, ink the En Francais background stamp with Versafine Onyx Black ink and stamp over the background.

Emboss the panel using the Sizzix Texture Fades Compass 2 Embossing Folder and rub a gold metallic pad over the raised areas of the embossing.

Trim the panel, mount onto a piece of white cardstock, then mount onto a piece of black cardstock.

Add a strip of ¼” black grosgrain ribbon over the panel, wrapping the ends behind the panel.

Mount the entire card front onto a white card base.

Destatic a piece of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool, ink the sentiment from the retired Strong Anchor stamp set with Versafine Black Onyx ink, stamp onto the prepated cardstock, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Trim the panel and mount onto a piece of black cardstock.

Add to the card front with dimensional foam to finish off the card.

TCC225 She Shall Be Praised

Welcome to the #225 {Spring Flowers} Challenge at The Card Concept!  

Look at our fun spring inspiration photo!  I loved the bright colors and spring flowers and decided to pull out a few of my neglected stamps from Creative Worship (formerly Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps) to create a Clean and Layered Mixed Media card.

I enjoy playing along with other online challenges and am also playing along with the Craft Rocket #134 No Designer Paper Challenge and the Word Art Wednesday #742-#743 Anything Goes Challenge. If you have not had a chance to check out their sites, I hope you will do so- gorgeous inspiration from all! 

To create this card:

Ink the floral potted image from Pretty Potted Florals with Versafine Onyx Black ink, stamp onto white cardstock, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Once the embossing has cooled, watercolor the image using water-based markers, once dry add frost white shimmer paint to the petals (hard to see in the photo).

Add white accents to the floral center with an extra fine white paint pen.

Fussy cut the image and set aside.

Using Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide Ink with a stencil brush, stencil the ink onto a piece of 3 ¾” x 5” piece of white cardstock (I used a retired Memory Box Heartwood stencil).

De-static the lower right-hand area of the stenciled panel, ink the verse sentiment from Precious Poppies with Versafine Onyx Black ink, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Mount the stenciled panel onto blue cardstock, trim mount onto orange cardstock, trim and mount onto a white card base.

Adhere the floral image onto the card front with dimensional foam.

Add a few orange rhinestones to finish off the card.

TCC223 I Will Give You Rest

Today, we are starting our January #223 Cozy New Year Challenge.  

I was inspired by the Nordic pattern in the coffee cup along with the textures from our photo to create a  Clean and Layered/ Mixed Media card.

To create this card:

De-static a piece of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool, ink the sentiment from Scripture Collection 4 with Versafine Black Onyx ink, stamp onto the prepared cardstock paper and apply clear embossing powder.

Heat set the powder with a heat tool and once cooled, die cut with a square die and mount onto a piece of black cardstock (trimming close to the edge).

To create the background, cut five pieces of the Let's Get Cozy designer paper to 3 3/4" x 5".   

Using the Stack ‘n Quilt method (see the tutorial here at Splitcoaststampers),  stack the five pieces together and cut along the diagonal, across, etc., layer onto white cardstock (per the tutorial).

Emboss the panels with the Tin Tile embossing folder, trim close to the edge.

Mount onto another piece of white cardstock, trimming close to the edge. 

Layer a piece of burgundy satin ribbon along with the midnight stitched ribbon over the diagonal, wrap the edges behind the panel.

Mount the entire panel onto a piece of midnight cardstock, trim and adhere to a white card base.

Mount the layered verse sentiment to the card front with dimensional foam to finish off the card.

TCC222 Christmas Light

Today, we are starting our December #222 Christmas Gathering Challenge at The Card Concept today and I was inspired by this beautifully decorated kitchen,  colors, and Christmas theme from our photo this month to create a Mixed Media card.

I have been trying to ink up some of my neglected stamp sets and decided to pull out the retired Christmas Light stamp set and coordinating die from Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps to create this quick Mixed Media card.

This is the season for giving and Karen L. (one of our designers) has graciously offered a cute stamp set to one of our gallery entries (USA only, sorry).  

We hope you can play along with us, you may be the lucky winner!  The deadline to join us is Monday, January 12th at noon EDT. 

To create this card:

De-static a piece of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool, ink the sentiment from Christmas Light with Versafine Black Onyx ink, stamp onto the upper left-hand area of the prepared cardstock paper and apply clear embossing powder.

Heat set the powder with a heat tool and once cooled, trim the panel to approx. 4” x 5 ¼” and mount onto a piece of black cardstock.

Repeat the embossing steps above for the candle image, and when the embossing has cooled, watercolor with distress oxide inks and water-based markers.

Die cut the image with the coordinating die, layer onto another die cut from white cardstock.

Trim a piece of plaid designer paper to approx. 2 ½” x 3 ¾” and mount onto the lower part of the card front.

Add a strip of white crochet lace, layer a piece of 1” black satin ribbon over the lace and wrap the ends behind the card front.

Mount the entire panel onto a white card base.

Loop the gold cord and adhere to the card front before mounting the die cut candle image with dimensional foam.

Add a few black rhinestones to finish off the card.

TCC221 Give Thanks

 

Hi Friends!

We are starting our November #221 Give Thanks Challenge at The Card Concept today and I was inspired by the colors, autumn elements and theme from our photo this month.

I have not had a chance to create cards lately, so I pulled out several older Autumn stamp sets and ended up making two cards (see this post for the second card). 

For the first card, I used the retired SU! sets, Painted Harvest along with French Foliage and a sentiment from the current Stamp Simply set, Welcome Fall. 

If you follow my blog, you know that I enjoy playing along with other online challenges and decided to play along with the Word Art Wednesday #724-#725 Anything Goes Challenge.

To create this card:

Using distress oxides (the colors I used are listed below), ink the solid portion of the flower from Painted Harvest with the rust ink, stamp off onto a piece of scrap paper and then stamp onto a piece of white cardstock.

Repeat the above process with several florals.

Ink the outline portion of the flower from Painted Harvest with the same rust ink, position over the solid layer and stamp onto the floral image to finish off the petals.

Repeat until all the floral petal images are stamped.

Ink the centers from Painted Harvest with espresso ink and stamp the centers.

Create a mask for the floral image and repeat the stamping process for the leaves from Painted Harvest using turquoise ink.

Once you are satisfied with the florals, ink the script, splatter and postmark images from French Foliage with corduroy ink and stamp over the background.

Using a stencil brush, apply antique linen and stone ink to “age” the paper.

Trim the panel in half, distress the edges and mount onto a piece of white cardstock.

Emboss a piece of dark designer paper with a diamond embossing folder, lightly sand with a sanding block, distress the edges and mount onto the lower half of the white cardstock panel.

Mount the entire panel onto a piece of rust cardstock, trimmed to approx. 4 ⅛” x 5⅜”. 

Add a piece of white crochet lace along with a piece of grosgrain ribbon over the cut layers (wrapping the ends of the ribbon behind the panel).

Adhere the entire panel onto a white card base.

Ink the sentiment from Welcome Fall using Versafine Onyx Black ink onto a piece of white cardstock, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Die cut with a stitched circle die, also die cutting two additional circles from rust cardstock.

“Age” the sentiment with the stencil brush and stamp lightly the postmark and script over the sentiment before layering onto the rust circle die cuts.

Add the sentiment to the card front with dimensional foam to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets:  Welcome Fall (Stamp Simply); Painted Harvest, French Foliage (retired Stampin’ Up!_

Inks/Mediums: Versafine Black Onyx, Distress Oxide- Rusty Hinge, Ground Espresso, Peacock Feathers, Brushed Corduroy, Antique Linen, Pumice Stone

Cardstock/Paper: White, Really Rust (retired Stampin’ Up!), misc designer paper (dark brown- from my stash, not sure of manufacturer)

Accessories/Tools: Gemini, Jr.,  Diamond Embossing Folder (retired Darice), Stencil Brush, Embossing Powder Tool, Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, White Crochet Lace (Hobby Lobby), Bermuda Bay Dotted Grosgrain Ribbon(used the opposite side- retired SU!)

TCC220 Thy Mercy

We are starting our October #220 Autumn Days Challenge at The Card Concept today and I was inspired by the colors and textures from our photo this month.

I decided to pull out two retired stamp sets- Day of Gratitude (Stampin’ Up!) and the STAMPLorations Faith Expression set.

I am still trying to ink up my older stamp sets and always loved the main focal image in the Day of Gratitude set.

If you follow my blog, you know that I enjoy playing along with other online challenges and decided to play along with the A Place to Start October “Anything Goes” Challenge.  

To create this card:

Using distress oxides (the colors I used are listed below), layer the inks onto a piece of white cardstock using a stencil brush.

Dry the inks with a heat tool before stamping the main from Day of Gratitude using Versafine Black Onyx ink, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Fussy cut the medallion and layer onto a piece of black cardstock (fussy cutting the image once more).

Emboss a 4” x 2 ½”  piece of orange designer paper with a knit embossing folder, mount onto a 4” x 5 ¼” piece of white cardstock.

Mount the panel onto a 4⅛” x 5⅜” piece of black cardstock.

Add a strip of white crochet lace and a strip of 1” black satin ribbon (wrapping the ends of the ribbon to the back of the card panel).

Adhere the card front to a white card base.

Stamp the sentiment from Faith Expressions (retired STAMPlorations) onto a piece of white cardstock with Versafine Black Onyx ink pad, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Trim the sentiment, mount onto a piece of black cardstock and trim close to the edge.

Adhere to the card front along the ribbon edge.

Mount the focal image to the card front with dimensional foam and add a pearl to the center to finish off the card.

TCC219 I Will Give You Rest

Welcome back to The Card Concept!  We are starting our monthly challenges again with our September #219 Butterflies and Blooms with two new designers on the team!

We hope that you will take the time to check out the Design Team's cards for even more inspiration! 

I was inspired by the florals and colors for my simple Mixed Media card and I decided to pull out a few of my retired Stampin’ Up! sets- Summer Silhouettes, En Francais along with the sentiment from Words of Encouragement from Stamp Simply.

I have been trying to ink up some of my older stamps and thought that this set would be perfect for the florals/background on this card.  I also have not had a chance to play around with my oxide inks in a while.  

If you follow my blog, you know that I enjoy playing along with other online challenges and will be linking this card to the As You Like It "Favourite- Layered or Flat and Why?" Challenge.  

I tend to gravitate to layered cards and love using lace and ribbon along with pearls.  The more layers, the more for me!

To create this card:

Using distress oxides (the colors I used are listed below), layer the inks onto a piece of white cardstock using a stencil brush.

Dry the inks with a heat tool before stamping the floral images using Versafine Black Onyx ink, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Continue layering the floral images with the above process, applying white embossing powder to some of the petals.

Ink the background image from Summer Silhouettes with Crushed Olive Distress Oxide ink and repeatedly stamp over the background (gently wipe off the ink from the floral tops).  Apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Ink the background stamp, En Francais with Abandoned Coral Distress Oxide ink and randomly press over the background.

Once satisfied with the background, trim to approximately 3.75” x 5”.  Mount onto a piece of white cardstock, trim close to the edges.  Mount onto a piece of black cardstock, trim once more.

Add a strip of white crochet lace to the card front. 

Adhere a piece of black and white checked ribbon to the card front, wrapping the ends behind the card front.

Mount the entire card panel onto a white card base.

De-static a piece of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool, stamp the verse sentiment from Words of Encouragement with Versafine Onyx Black ink, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Once the embossing has cooled, die cut the sentiment with a stitched circle die.

Mount onto black cardstock (I die cut two circles from the same circle die, layering for a small frame behind the sentiment).

Adhere to the card front using dimensional foam and add a few pearls to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets: Words of Encouragement (Stamp Simply); En Francais and Summer Silhouettes (retired Stampin’ Up!)

Inks/Mediums: Versafine Black Onyx, Distress Oxide- Abandoned Coral, Mustard Seed, Ripe Persimmon, Crushed Olive

Cardstock/Paper: White, Black

Accessories/Tools: Gemini, Jr., MFT Stitched Circle Dies, Stencil Brushe, Embossing Powder Tool, Clear and White Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, White Crochet Lace (Hobby Lobby), Black and White Checked Ribbon, Pearls
