TCC158 Cast Your Cares

Hi Friends!

Welcome to The Card Concept #158 {Long Summer Days} Challenge!

For those of you who are not familiar with
The Card Concept Challenge, we are a bi-weekly challenge that uses an inspiration photo for you to create a card.

You can choose one card-making style or a combination of styles, the choice is yours!  Plus, our Design Team of ten ladies create a card to help give you even more inspiration!

I love this photo, don't you? The beach theme, the colors as well as the textures inspired me to create a Mixed Media card using a few retired Stampin’ Up! stamps as well as a retired Verve stamp set for the sentiment.

Also, FYI- this will be our last challenge for the summer (but we will return in the fall).

Normally our challenge would end in two weeks, but we have decided to keep the challenge open all summer to allow you to participate as you have time.

We will resume with The Card Concept Challenges on Sept. 1st with our DT announcement and our first challenge on Sept. 8th.

Also, as those of you who follow me know, I have a personal goal to create a card for each of the Splitcoaststampers Sketch Challenges and incorporated the #SC594 Sketch Challenge into the design.

I am also joining the More Mixed Media Challenge June "Anything Goes Optional Purple" along with the Double Trouble #87 "It's Hip to Be Square" Challenge (for Thing #1, I used a circle and Thing #3- I heat embossed the sentiment).

If you have not had a chance to visit The Card Concept, or the other challenge sites yet, I encourage you to do so- gorgeous inspiration from all!

To create this card:

Trim a piece of kraft cardstock to 4” x 5 ¼”.  Repeatedly stamp the script image (retired Notable Notions) with ground espresso distress ink over the background.

De-static the lower right-hand area, stamp the verse sentiment (retired Verve stamps) with Versafine™ Onyx Black ink, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Apply pearl texture paste using a scallop stencil onto the background area.  Allow the paste to dry for approx. one hour.

Ink the Seaside Sketches (retired Stampin’ Up!) image with Versafine™ Onyx Black ink and stamp onto a piece of white cardstock.

Watercolor the image with watercolor pencils, distress ink and distress oxide inks and once satisfied with the coloring, die cut with a stitched circle die.

Mount onto another larger circle die cut from light blue cardstock.

Stamp the seashells from Stippled Shells and By the Seashore with Versafine™ Onyx Black ink onto white cardstock, heat set with a heat tool.

Watercolor with Stampin’ Write markers, distress ink and fussy cut the images.  Use a black marker to edge the shell images.

Mount the stenciled background onto white cardstock, trim close to the edge.

Add the blue checked layered panel of designer paper, the cream burlap ribbon, and the light blue grosgrain ribbon (wrapping the ends of the blue ribbon behind the background panel).

Mount the panel onto light blue cardstock and adhere to a white card base.

Mount the die cut focal image with dimensional foam (or chipboard), add the seashells around the edges (again, with dimensional foam/chipboard).

Use a clear glitter pen to add shimmer to the seashells as well as the water.

Finish off the card with rhinestones on the upper left and lower right-hand corners.

Stamp Sets: Seaside Sketches, Stipple Shells, By the Seashore, Notable Notions (all retired Stampin’ Up!), Faith Medley (retired Verve Stamps)

Ink/Mediums: Versafine™ Onyx Black Ink, Watercolor Pencils- Derwent, Stampin’ Up!, etc. –Blues, Browns, Beige, Tim Holtz™ Distress Ink- Ground Espresso, Faded Jeans, Pumice Stone, Distress Oxide- Tumbled Glass; Spectrum Noir™ Clear Glitter Marker, Pitt Penn Black Marker, Dreamweaver Pearlescent Embossing Paste

TCC155 Garden Pleasures- Cast All Your Cares

Hi Friends!

Welcome to The Card Concept #155 {Garden Pleasures} Challenge!

For those of you who are not familiar with The Card Concept Challenge, we are a bi-weekly challenge that uses an inspiration photo for you to create a card.

You can choose one style and/or a combination of card making styles, the choice is yours!  Plus, our Design Team of ten ladies create a card to inspire you.

I love the overall feel of this photo- the bright window with the beautiful Black-eyed Susans as well as the gorgeous birdhouses (especially the one in the same of a beehive) and the gold curtain and black accents, all inspired my Shabby and Vintage Mixed Media card!

I have mentioned in the past that my husband and I collect antique honey dishes and I love vintage images of bees, so I had to pull out this bee image from the French Country Collection by
Graphic 45.

I am still working my way through the Splitcoaststampers Sketches and was able to incorporate the SCS #SC276 Sketch into the layout (moved panel #4 up a bit). I am also participating in the A Place to Start May #5- “Anything Goes” Challenge and the Watercooler Wednesday #315 Marsha’s Challenge: All Things Feminine.

If you have not had a chance to visit The Card Concept, or the other challenge sites yet, I encourage you to do so- fabulous inspiration from all!

To create this card:

Ink the inside of a 3D Honeycomb Embossing Folder with Ground Espresso Distress Ink, insert a piece of mustard cardstock, and run through an embossing machine.  Repeat the process so you have two embossed panels.

Spritz the panels lightly with water to dilute the espresso ink a bit.  Stamp various splatter images using Wild Honey distress ink and allow the panels to dry.

Trim one of the panels to approx. 3 ¾” x 3 ¼”.  Distress the edges, mount onto a piece of black cardstock, distress the edge and use a straight stitch on a sewing machine with white thread.

Distress the edges of the other panel, mount onto black cardstock, distress the edges again.

Mount the smaller panel onto the larger background panel, add the strip of lace and stitch around the edges with a zigzag stitch.

Trim the Graphic 45 French Country image, mount onto mustard cardstock. Distress and mount again onto black cardstock, distressing the edges before adhering to the card front using dimensional foam (or chipboard).

Stamp the sentiment onto mustard cardstock with Versafine™ Onyx Black ink, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Once the embossing has cooled, trim to a rectangle, distress the edges, mount onto black cardstock, and distress the edges again before mounting onto the panel with dimensional foam (or, as I prefer, chipboard).

Mount the entire layered background panel onto a white card base.

Add the bulb pin with the key charm plus a few pearls to the outside corners.

To finish off the card,  apply a few drops of Morning Dew Nuvo™ Jewel Drops as well as "smoosh" a bit in the upper left hand corner to mimic dripping honey.

Stamp Sets: Faith Medley (retired Verve Stamps), Grunge Elements, Timeless Textures (both retired Stampin’ Up!)

Ink/Mediums: Versafine™ Onyx Black Ink, Tim Holtz™ Early Espresso, Wild Honey Distress Ink, Nuvo™ Morning Dew Jewel Drops

Paper/Cardstock: More Mustard, Basic Black; French Country 12 x 12 (Graphic 45)

Tools/Accessories: Texture Boutique™ (Sizzix™), 3D Honeycomb Embossing Folder (Stampin’ Up!), Heat Tool, Embossing Buddy, Clear Embossing Powder, Water Spritzer Bottle, Distressing Tool, Sewing Machine, White Thread, Lace (retired Stampin’ Up!), Pearls, Antique Brass Bulb Pin and Key Charm

Thanks again for taking the time to visit!  We hope you will have the time to create a card based on our inspiration photo and join us at The Card Concept! The challenge is open until May 24th at noon EDT.

TCC121 Cast Your Cares

Hi Friends!

Welcome to The Card Concept #121 {Adventure Awaits} Challenge!  I love this inspiration photo and was inspired by the train station, the colors and textures of the luggage as well as the brick wall to create a Shabby and Vintage Mixed Media card!

Since I have not used the retired Stampin’ Up! (SU!) Traveler stamp set in a while, I decided to pull out the locomotive image (well, it is a train station, right?) and paired it with a sentiment from the retired Faith Medley stamp set from Verve Stamps.

I used the MojoMonday #424 Sketch Challenge for the layout (since Julee Tilman is the designer of the sketch challenge as well as the stamp set, I just had to play along with her challenge- sending hugs Julee!) and will also be linking to the Word Art Wednesday #408-#409 “Anything Goes”Challenge.

If you have not had a chance to visit us at The Card Concept or the other challenge sites yet, I hope you will find time to do so- such gorgeous inspiration from all!

The locomotive image was stamped onto prepared white cardstock with Versafine™ Onyx Black and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  Once the embossing powder had cooled, the image was water-colored with SU! Markers and Distress Ink (see colors below) using a water brush to soften the edges before die cutting with a stitched circle die.  Layer the image onto a die cut circle from espresso cardstock.

Emboss two pieces of retired designer paper (SU! Howlstooth & Herrinbone) with different embossing folders, lightly sand the embossing and mount onto espresso cardstock.  (I used the Tim Holtz™ Alterations Air Mail on the left panel and the retired SU! Boho Chic on the other panel).

Layer the embossed designer paper panels onto the white card front (die cut with a stitched rectangle die) and mount onto a piece of espresso cardstock.

Sponge a bit of distress ink over the edges, add the satin ribbon strips with the pewter ribbon glides (the glides reminded me of the straps on the luggage) and wrap the ends of the ribbon behind the panel before mounting onto the white card base.

Heat emboss the sentiment onto white cardstock (in the same manner as the locomotive), hand trim and mount onto espresso cardstock.

Use the splatter stamp to add a bit of distressing.  Mount the locomotive and sentiment with dimensional foam (or chipboard, lately I have preferred chipboard since I have an abundance from designer paper packs).

Finish off the card by using a silver paint pen to add a bit of silver to the locomotive’s metal parts.

Stamp Sets:  Traveler, Timeless Textures (retired SU!), Faith Medley (retired Verve Stamps)

Ink/Mediums: Versafine™ Onyx Black,  Memento™ Tuxedo Black; Tim Holtz™ Distress Ink- Frayed Burlap and Hickory Smoke; Stampin’ Write Markers- Gray Granite, Smoky Slate, Chocolate Chip, Espresso; Silver Paint Marker (retired SU!)

Cardstock/Paper: Whisper White, Early Espresso; retired SU! Designer Series Paper- Howlstooth & Herringbone

Tools/Accessories: Big Shot™, My Favorite Things™ Dies- Stitched A2 Rectangle STAX Set 1, Stitched Circle STAX; Sixxiz™ Circle Dies; Embossing Folders- TH Alterations Airmail, SU! retired Boho Chic; AquaPainter™, Embossing Buddy®, Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, ⅝” Espresso Satin Ribbon, Pewter Ribbon Slides

Thanks again for taking the time to visit!  I hope I have inspired you to create your own card based on our {Adventure Awaits}  photo and link up to our gallery at The Card Concept- we would love to see your interpretation and what design style(s) you decide to choose :-) The challenge is open until Monday, October 21st.
