Welcome to The Card Concept #158 {Long Summer Days} Challenge!

For those of you who are not familiar with The Card Concept Challenge, we are a bi-weekly challenge that uses an inspiration photo for you to create a card. 

You can choose one card-making style or a combination of styles, the choice is yours!  Plus, our Design Team of ten ladies create a card to help give you even more inspiration!

 I love this photo, don't you? The beach theme, the colors as well as the textures inspired me to create a Mixed Media card using a few retired Stampin’ Up! stamps as well as a retired Verve stamp set for the sentiment.

Also, FYI- this will be our last challenge for the summer (but we will return in the fall). 

Normally our challenge would end in two weeks, but we have decided to keep the challenge open all summer to allow you to participate as you have time. 

We will resume with The Card Concept Challenges on Sept. 1st with our DT announcement and our first challenge on Sept. 8th.

Also, as those of you who follow me know, I have a personal goal to create a card for each of the Splitcoaststampers Sketch Challenges and incorporated the #SC594 Sketch Challenge into the design. 

I am also joining the More Mixed Media Challenge June "Anything Goes Optional Purple" along with the Double Trouble #87 "It's Hip to Be Square" Challenge (for Thing #1, I used a circle and Thing #3- I heat embossed the sentiment). 

If you have not had a chance to visit The Card Concept, or the other challenge sites yet, I encourage you to do so- gorgeous inspiration from all! 

To create this card:

Trim a piece of kraft cardstock to 4” x 5 ¼”.  Repeatedly stamp the script image (retired Notable Notions) with ground espresso distress ink over the background.

De-static the lower right-hand area, stamp the verse sentiment (retired Verve stamps) with Versafine™ Onyx Black ink, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Apply pearl texture paste using a scallop stencil onto the background area.  Allow the paste to dry for approx. one hour.

Ink the Seaside Sketches (retired Stampin’ Up!) image with Versafine™ Onyx Black ink and stamp onto a piece of white cardstock.

Watercolor the image with watercolor pencils, distress ink and distress oxide inks and once satisfied with the coloring, die cut with a stitched circle die. 

Mount onto another larger circle die cut from light blue cardstock.

Stamp the seashells from Stippled Shells and By the Seashore with Versafine™ Onyx Black ink onto white cardstock, heat set with a heat tool.

Watercolor with Stampin’ Write markers, distress ink and fussy cut the images.  Use a black marker to edge the shell images.

Mount the stenciled background onto white cardstock, trim close to the edge.

Add the blue checked layered panel of designer paper, the cream burlap ribbon, and the light blue grosgrain ribbon (wrapping the ends of the blue ribbon behind the background panel).          

Mount the panel onto light blue cardstock and adhere to a white card base.

Mount the die cut focal image with dimensional foam (or chipboard), add the seashells around the edges (again, with dimensional foam/chipboard).

Use a clear glitter pen to add shimmer to the seashells as well as the water.

Finish off the card with rhinestones on the upper left and lower right-hand corners.

Paper/Cardstock: Whisper White, Bashful Blue, Crumb Cake, retired blue check designer paper (all current and retired Stampin’ Up!)

TCC138d Sunset on the Shore

Welcome to The Card Concept #138d {Sunset at the Shore} Challenge! 

We have a beautiful inspiration photo for our last summer challenge (we will be back for our Fall/Winter challenge in September) and I was inspired by the overall sunset scene with the pretty seashells as well as the shades of pinkish purple.  I can just imagine sitting on the beach and watching this sunset, can't you?  

For this Mixed Media card, I decided to pull out some of my retired Stampin’ Up! stamps (Stippe Shells, Gorgeous Grunge, Timeless Textures) along with a verse sentiment from a current Divinity Designs LLC set, Scripture Collection 11.

I love this verse from the Scripture Collection 11 and have not stamped this verse in a while (if ever).  I am still focusing on inking up my "unloved" stamp sets and in addittion to my Divinity Designs LLC Scripture Collection stamp sets, the Stampin' Up! sets used for this card will remain in my collection (I love the seashells in the Stipple Shells, they are so realistic).

As those of you who follow my blog know, I am making an effort to complete a card for each of the Splitcoaststampers Sketches (they are at #815 now and I have finished over half so far, woohoo!) :-).  

With that in mind, I thought that the SC17 Sketch  would work well for the layout and will also be linking this card to the Word Art Wednesday #452- #453 “Anything Goes” Challenge (another one of my favorite challenge blogs).

If you have not had a chance to visit us at The Card Concept (or the other challenge sites yet), I encourage you to do so- fabulous inspiration from all! 

To create this card:

Using a stencil brush, apply distress oxide inks onto a piece of white cardstock – first, applying Fossilized Amber for the sun area and reflection, then applying Spiced Marmalade and Picked Raspberry for the sky/water areas.  Keep applying ink as needed and use a water brush to create the horizon line and tapping water (I used my fingers) to blend the ink and create the clouds.

Dry the panel thoroughly with a heat tool before inking the sentiment with Versafine Onyx Black, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool. Trim the panel to 4” x 5 ¼”. 

Tear the edge of a piece of Sahara Sand cardstock, stamp the splatter images with Vintage Tea Archival ink as well as inking the torn edge.  Mount onto the sentiment panel and trim the edges.

Use a water brush to water down the pearl texture paste to add shimmer to the embossed “sand”. 

Adhere the entire panel onto black cardstock, trim close to the edge.

Ink the Stipple Shells images onto white cardstock using Versafine Onyx Black ink, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Watercolor the shells using distress oxide inks along with water-based markers.  Once satisfied with the coloring, fussy cut and adhere to the card front with chipboard or dimensional foam.

Finish off the card by applying shimmer to the seashells with a clear glitter pen.

TCC138 Anchor the Soul

Welcome to The Card Concept #138 {Summer Fun} Challenge!

Isn't this a fun table setting for summer?  I love the nautical theme as well as seashells and was inspired to create a vintage style Mixed Media card.  

   

I decided to pull out the Anchor The Soul stamp set (Divinity Designs LLC) and paired it with a few retired Stampin’ Up! sets, Stipple Seashells and Timeless Textures along with some patriotic designer paper from Authentique.

I am also making my way through the Splitcoaststampers sketches and used Sketch Challenge #SC383 sketch  (from 2012- the SCS Challenges do not have a deadline) for the layout and will be participating with the Sweet Stampers Challenge “Something Beginning with a B” (B= Bird, Beach, Blue, Brown, Bible Verse), the Simon Says Monday “Shoot for the Stars” Challenge and the Tuesday Throwdown #460 “Anything Goes” Challenge.

To create this card:

Ink the main image and verse from Anchor The Soul along with the seashell images from Stipple Shells using Versafine™ Onyx Black ink, stamp onto white cardstock and heat set with a heat tool.

Watercolor the main image and seashells using watercolor pencils and water-based markers.

Once you are satisfied with the coloring, die cut the main image and verse sentiment with stitched dies.  Mount the sentiment onto a circle die cut from navy cardstock and the square die cut image onto navy cardstock, trimming close to the edge.

Mount the designer papers onto white cardstock, trim close to the edge and layer onto the card front per the sketch.  Add the ribbons and knotted hemp twine before adding the main image and sentiment with dimensional foam. 

Adhere the entire panel to the white card base.

Add texture with the small splatter stamp from Timeless Textures using Vintage Tea Distress Archival Ink (stamping off before adding to the images) and sponging a bit around the edges of the seashells.

Use a clear glitter pen to add shimmer to the sand as well as the seashells.  

Mount the seashells onto the card front with dimensional foam and finish off the card using a silver metallic paint marker for the metal on the anchor.

I hope all of you are having a great week!  Tonight I am sharing another card designed with retired sets and supplies from my stash.

I wanted to participate with the Just Add Ink #491 Inspiration Challenge (I was inspired by the sand as well as the pastel colors) and am also linking to the Joy of Sets #014 Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge (top row across  Watercolor- Purple- Die Cuts) and the Addicted to Stamps and More #376 “Anything Goes” Challenge.

The image and sentiment were heat embossed with clear embossing powder and brush markers were used to watercolor the seaside and seashell images.

A few rectangles were die cut for the layers and all were mounted onto black cardstock.

The seashells were fussy-cut, distress oxide ink was sponged over all of the edges of the seashells and a clear glitter pen was used to add shimmer to both the shells and water. 

Once the layers were added to the card front, the looped silver cord was added prior to mounting the seashells with dimensional foam.

Cast All Your Cares

Hi Friends!

Here is another card with some of my older stamp sets- this card includes retired Stampin’ Up! Summer by the Sea, Stipple Shells along with the retired Verve Stamp Set, Faith Medley.

I heat embossed all of the images as well as the sentiment using clear embossing powder and water-colored the images with clean color markers and distress inks.  The shells were fussy-cut, the main image was die cut with a stitched rectangle die and the sentiment with a stitched oval die.

All of the elements were layered onto black cardstock with the main image and seashells mounted onto the card front with dimensional foam.

The card was finished off with a clear glitter pen and rhinestones.

Seaside Sketches- So Very Thankful

I hope you are all having a wonderful week!  This morning, I am sharing yet another card that I created recently using two of my retired stamp sets from Stampin’ Up! (Seaside Sketches and Stipple Shells) along with a sentiment from WPlus9 Design Studio, LLC).

To create this card:

1). De-static a piece of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool, stamp the Seaside Sketches image using Versafine™ Onyx Black ink onto white cardstock, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.  Once the embossing has cooled, watercolor using ink from water-based markers (see colors used below).

2). Die cut the image with a stitched square die and mount onto black cardstock, trim close to the edge.

3). Die cut a piece of bright raspberry pink designer paper with the same square stitched die, mount onto black cardstock and trim close to the edge.  Use a few scrap strips of the designer paper and mount onto the edges of a piece of black cardstock (to use for the card front). 

4). Emboss a piece of white cardstock with the retired Square Lattice embossing folder (SU!) , mount onto black cardstock and trim close to the edge.  Adhere the embossed/layered background to black card front. Mount the entire card front to the white card base.

5).  Mount the layered designer paper square on an angle onto the card front (per the TSOT Sketch).  Add a bit of looped silver cord and adhere the main focal image using dimensional foam (or scrap chipboard).

6). Using black India ink, stamp the shell images from Stipple Shells onto white cardstock, heat set the ink with a heat tool and watercolor the images using water-based markers.  Fussy-cut each of the shells, use a black marker to finish off the cut edges of the images and a sponge dauber with distress oxide ink to add a bit of color.  Mount the shells onto the focal image (using dimensional foam as needed).

7). De-static a piece of black cardstock with an embossing powder tool, stamp the sentiment from Pretty Patches: Apple (WPlus9 Studio, LLC), apply white embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.  Once the embossing has cooled, trim close to the edge of the sentiment.  Mount the sentiment onto the card front and add a few seashells with dimensional foam.

7). Finish off the card using a clear glitter pen to add shimmer to the shells and water along with a few rhinestones in the corner of the focal image and sentiment.
