TCC193 Vintage Bee

Hi Friends!

Welcome to our #193 {New Arrival} or {Busy Bee} Challenge at The Card Concept! The Card Concept is a bi-weekly challenge and we would love for you to create a card based on one (or both) of our inspiration photos and join us!

I love both of these photos- The New Arrival is so cute! I love all of the sweet animals, the gorgeous cake and flowers.  Wonderful for spring cards, wedding, new baby, etc. cards!

I also love the Busy Bee photo- that room looks wonderful with all of the bees, black and yellow and fabulous patterns!

I decided to create a Shabby and Vintage Mixed Media card based on the Busy Bee photo.  I had the retired Graphic 45 French Country designer paper in my stash and thought it would be perfect for this challenge.

I enjoy participating with other online challenges (I know how much work goes into maintaining a challenge blog and want to give support).  I will be linking this card to the #102 “Layer It Up” Challenge at the Craft Rocket Challenge.  I also used the Splitcoaststampers #SC883 Sketch for the layout (modified slightly- I did not create a belly band).

If you have not already visited us at The Card Concept, I hope you will find the time to do so.  Gorgeous inspiration from the rest of the DT as well as the other challenge sites.

This card was fairly quick and easy to create.

Trim the pieces of Graphic45 French Country 6x6 Paper to approx. 2” x 2 ⅝”, distress the edges, apply Vintage Photo distress ink over the edges.

Mount the alternating panels onto black cardstock.

Add a piece of lace trim to the center.

Mount the vintage bee image onto black cardstock, trim and mount again onto the G45 basic patterned cardstock, distress the edges and sponge vintage photo distress ink over the edges.

Mount the layered butterfly image with dimensional foam onto the middle of the card.

Mount the card front onto a white card base.  Add vintage photo distress ink over the edges.

Add a few pieces of Graphic 45 Washi Tape and apply the Nuvo™ Mustard Seed Embellishment Mousse with an honeycomb stencil and putty knife to the upper right and lower left hand panels.

Add a few pearls on the corners to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets: None

Inks/Mediums: Tim Holtz™ Vintage Photo Distress Ink, Nuvo™ Mustard Seed Embellishment Mousse

Cardstock/Paper: White, Black, French Country (retired Graphic 45)

Accessories/Tools: Distressing Tool, Putty Knife, Honeycomb Stencil, Sponge Dauber, Lace (retired Stampin’ Up!), Kaisercraft Self-Adhesive Round Pearls- Pearls

Thanks again for taking the time to visit! I hope you are inspired to create a card and join us for our #193 {New Arrival} or {Busy Bee} Challenge at The Card Concept!.

TCC155 Garden Pleasures- Cast All Your Cares

Hi Friends!

Welcome to The Card Concept #155 {Garden Pleasures} Challenge!

For those of you who are not familiar with The Card Concept Challenge, we are a bi-weekly challenge that uses an inspiration photo for you to create a card.

You can choose one style and/or a combination of card making styles, the choice is yours!  Plus, our Design Team of ten ladies create a card to inspire you.

I love the overall feel of this photo- the bright window with the beautiful Black-eyed Susans as well as the gorgeous birdhouses (especially the one in the same of a beehive) and the gold curtain and black accents, all inspired my Shabby and Vintage Mixed Media card!

I have mentioned in the past that my husband and I collect antique honey dishes and I love vintage images of bees, so I had to pull out this bee image from the French Country Collection by
Graphic 45.

I am still working my way through the Splitcoaststampers Sketches and was able to incorporate the SCS #SC276 Sketch into the layout (moved panel #4 up a bit). I am also participating in the A Place to Start May #5- “Anything Goes” Challenge and the Watercooler Wednesday #315 Marsha’s Challenge: All Things Feminine.

If you have not had a chance to visit The Card Concept, or the other challenge sites yet, I encourage you to do so- fabulous inspiration from all!

To create this card:

Ink the inside of a 3D Honeycomb Embossing Folder with Ground Espresso Distress Ink, insert a piece of mustard cardstock, and run through an embossing machine.  Repeat the process so you have two embossed panels.

Spritz the panels lightly with water to dilute the espresso ink a bit.  Stamp various splatter images using Wild Honey distress ink and allow the panels to dry.

Trim one of the panels to approx. 3 ¾” x 3 ¼”.  Distress the edges, mount onto a piece of black cardstock, distress the edge and use a straight stitch on a sewing machine with white thread.

Distress the edges of the other panel, mount onto black cardstock, distress the edges again.

Mount the smaller panel onto the larger background panel, add the strip of lace and stitch around the edges with a zigzag stitch.

Trim the Graphic 45 French Country image, mount onto mustard cardstock. Distress and mount again onto black cardstock, distressing the edges before adhering to the card front using dimensional foam (or chipboard).

Stamp the sentiment onto mustard cardstock with Versafine™ Onyx Black ink, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Once the embossing has cooled, trim to a rectangle, distress the edges, mount onto black cardstock, and distress the edges again before mounting onto the panel with dimensional foam (or, as I prefer, chipboard).

Mount the entire layered background panel onto a white card base.

Add the bulb pin with the key charm plus a few pearls to the outside corners.

To finish off the card,  apply a few drops of Morning Dew Nuvo™ Jewel Drops as well as "smoosh" a bit in the upper left hand corner to mimic dripping honey.

Stamp Sets: Faith Medley (retired Verve Stamps), Grunge Elements, Timeless Textures (both retired Stampin’ Up!)

Ink/Mediums: Versafine™ Onyx Black Ink, Tim Holtz™ Early Espresso, Wild Honey Distress Ink, Nuvo™ Morning Dew Jewel Drops

Paper/Cardstock: More Mustard, Basic Black; French Country 12 x 12 (Graphic 45)

Tools/Accessories: Texture Boutique™ (Sizzix™), 3D Honeycomb Embossing Folder (Stampin’ Up!), Heat Tool, Embossing Buddy, Clear Embossing Powder, Water Spritzer Bottle, Distressing Tool, Sewing Machine, White Thread, Lace (retired Stampin’ Up!), Pearls, Antique Brass Bulb Pin and Key Charm

Thanks again for taking the time to visit!  We hope you will have the time to create a card based on our inspiration photo and join us at The Card Concept! The challenge is open until May 24th at noon EDT.

Apply Ranger® Tim Holtz® Forest Moss, Chipped Sapphire and Brushed Corduroy Distress Stains onto a craft mat, spritz with water and lay a piece of watercolor paper over the ink.

Press the paper into the ink, twist as you lift up the panel turning to allow the ink to run and merge.

Use the Heat Tool to dry the panel, spritzing with water, re-apply additional ink and drying with the Heat Tool until you are satisfied with the results.

De-static the panel with the Embossing Buddy®, stamp the image using Versamark™ Ink, apply Stampin’ Emboss® White Embossing Powder, heat with the Heat Tool to melt the powder and allow the embossed image to cool.

Use the Big Shot™ with the My Favorite Things™ (MFT) Horizontal Stitched Banners Die to cut out the image, mount onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock, trim and mount onto a piece of Mossy Meadow cardstock, trim and mount onto a piece of Delightful Dijon cardstock.

Ink the large solid splatter stamp from Gorgeous Grunge using Delightful Dijon Classic Ink and stamp onto the upper part of a piece of Whisper White cardstock.

Ink the large splatter stamp using Mossy Meadow Classic Ink and stamp onto the panel as well.

Bible Verse Memory Album- Psalm 107:1 Give Thanks to the Lord

Hi Again Stampers!

Here is page four of the heart album that I created for the SplitcoaststampersDivine Design Bible Verse BVC14 Challenge.

I have linked the initial post here that describes the basic steps for the cover of the album along with a few more details on the steps for each page of the album…

The verses used are free digital images from Word Art Wednesday (downloaded into My Digital Studio (MDS) and printed onto Very Vanilla cardstock).
Page Four:
“Oh, give thanks to the Lord for He is good”  Psalm 107:1
In addition to the steps taken in the first post (adhere the retired Beau Château DSP DSP to the Heart Chipboard Album page, “antique” using  Ranger™ Tim Holtz® Tea Dye and Vintage Photo Distress Stain, add the 3/8” Venetian Crochet Trim and the 5/8” Early Espresso Satin Ribbon and add the strings of Pearls.
Use the Big Shot™ with the Hearts Collection Framelits™ to cut out the heart from the Beau Château DSP, distress with the Distressing Tool and adhere to the panel.
Ink the bee image from Nature’s Pace using Memento™ Tuxedo Black Ink onto Very Vanilla cardstock.  Color the image using Stampin’ Write markers- Pink Pirouette, Baja Breeze, Pear Pizzazz and Hello Honey- add a few shadows with the Sahara Sand Stampin’ Write marker.
Cut the bee image out using the Big Shot™ with the Sizzix™ Ovals Framelits™.  “Antique” the Very Vanilla cardstock using Ranger™ Tim Holtz® Tea Dye and Vintage Photo Distress Stain, stamp the Gorgeous Grunge splatter stamp using Soft Suede and mount onto a piece of Early Espresso cardstock (the Early Espresso layer was crimped with the Crimper Tool and the edges were hand torn around the oval).
Trim the verse and create the banner points using the Hexagon Punch (“antique” the Very Vanilla cardstock using Ranger™ Tim Holtz® Tea Dye and Vintage Photo Distress Stain), stamp the Gorgeous Grunge splatter stamp using Soft Suede Classic Ink.
Mount the verse onto the panel using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.
Add the rolled flowers (created with the 1 ¾” and 1 ¼”” Scallop Circle Punches from Pink Pirouette cardstock and Baja Breeze Designer Series Paper along with leaves using the Bird Builder Punch from Early Espresso cardstock) to finish off the panel.

A Quiet Life Sympathy- Three Challenges in One!

Hi Stampers!

I had a glorious day spending time with my husband-
we were able to sneak away to one of our favorite places, Shenandoah National Park and travel part of Skyline Drive!!  The vistas are gorgeous no matter what the weather (although it was a bit cloudy, it was beautiful today) and whenever we visit, I feel so close to God’s creation, it always inspires me to create something in my craft room when I return :-)

I know some of you have arrived from these challenge sites, but if not, I encourage you to visit the linked pages above and check out the wonderful Design Team projects as well as their fabulous galleries- you will definitely be inspired!

To create this card:
Use the Big Shot™ with the Woodgrain Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder to emboss a piece of retired Blushing Bride Designer Series Paper (DSP).   Trim to 3 ¾” wide and adhere to top of a piece of 4” wide x 5.25” long Whisper White cardstock.

Add a piece of Moonlight DSP (Hello Honey honeycomb pattern) to the lower portion of the card.   Adhere the die cut border (this was a scrap from a previous project) and add the gray satin ribbon strips to cover the edges.
Distress the edges by hand (I decided to do this after putting the card together since the Woodgrain folder tends to slightly tear the DSP).   Also add a bit of Dazzling Diamonds to the border area (again, this is to mask the excess adhesive that appeared on the Blushing Bride layer under the border die).
Mount the entire panel onto a piece of Basic Gray cardstock, trim and adhere to the Whisper White card base.
Stamp the bee image using Basic Gray Classic Ink onto Whisper White cardstock.  Color the image using Stampin’ Write markers- Blushing Bride and Hello Honey plus the Light Calypso Coral and Smoky Slate Blendabilities™ markers.   Cut out the image along the border and add a bit of Dazzling Diamonds to the wings.
Mount a piece of Whisper White cardstock onto a piece of Basic Gray cardstock for the focal image panel per the sketch.
Add the bee image  using Stampin’ Dimensionals® as well as the sentiment (again, the sentiment was already in my scraps- a previously printed image from My Digital Studio (MDS) onto Whisper White cardstock, trimmed and the banner was created with the Hexagon Punch).   Mount the entire panel to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.
Create the rolled flowers from retired Blushing Bride and Calypso Coral DSP using the 1 ¾” and 1 ¼” Scallop Circle Punches.   Spiral cut by hand a wavy line from the outside of the scallop toward the center and roll up to create the rose (here is a basic tutorial from Splitcoaststampers).
Adhere the Basic Gray leaves (from the Bird Builder Punch) along with the rolled roses to the card front (I used Hot Glue for creating the roses and adhering to the card front).
Add the Pearls to the corners to finish off the card.
Stamp Sets: Teeny Tiny Wishes (MDS version), A Quiet Life (retired)
Ink: Basic Gray, Printer Ink- Black, Stampin’ Write Markers- Blushing Bride, Hello Honey; Stampin’ Blendabilities™- Light Calypso Coral, Light Smoky Slate
Paper/Cardstock:  Whisper White, Basic Gray, Moonlight DSP, retired Blushing Bride and Calypso Coral DSP
Accessories: Big Shot™, Woodgrain Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder, Border Die (ODBD), Punches: Hexagon, Bird Builder, Scallop Circle- 1 ¾”, 1 ¼”;  Dazzling Diamonds Glitter,  Pearls, Gray Satin Ribbon from my stash

Thanks again for stopping by- I hope all of you have a fabulous Friday!!

SUO96 Bees, Birds and Butterflies!!

Hi Stampers!

I hope you will have the time to visit and check out the rest of the fantastic Design Team projects at both sites and if you have a chance, using your Stampin’ Up! Only products, come join in on the fun!

To create this project:
Using My Digital Studio (MDS), position the flower stamp brush set from Springtime Hello along with the bee (of course, if you have the stamp set you can stamp as well with Basic Black Classic Ink- I decided to enlarge the images so I used MDS).
Print out onto Whisper White cardstock, color using Stampin’ Write markers- Island Indigo for the flower petals, So Saffron for the flower centers and bee, Pear Pizzazz for the stems and Sahara Sand for the shadows.   Use a Chalk Marker to create highlights on the flowers and bee wings.
Use the Big Shot™ with the Ovals Collection Framelits™ to cut out the image and cut another oval the same size from Basic Black cardstock, cutting the black oval in half for the frame.  Position the black frame behind the focal image oval, use a Sponge Dauber to apply Crumb Cake Classic Ink and the Color Spritzer Tool along with a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker to distress a bit more.
Ink the En Francais background stamp using Crumb Cake Classic Ink and stamp onto a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock and stamp again onto a piece of Soft Sky cardstock (without re-inking).  Use the Big Shot™ with the Honeycomb Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder to emboss both pieces.
Use the Distressing Tool to distress the edges and sponge Crumb Cake Classic Ink over the edges.   Adhere to the Basic Black card base per the sketch, add the 5/8” Basic Black Satin Ribbon strip and mount the focal image oval using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.
Stamp the sentiment from Express Yourself using Basic Black Classic Ink and cut out using the Big Shot™ with the Bitty Banner Framelits™ cutting another banner from Basic Black cardstock as well.
Cut the Basic Black banner in half and adhere behind the sentiment on both ends.  Use the Color Spritzer Tool with the Stampin’ Write Basic Black marker to add distressing and with the Sponge Dauber apply Crumb Cake Classic Ink.  Add to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.
Stamp the butterfly from Papillon Potpourri using Basic Black Classic Ink onto Island Indigo cardstock.  Punch out using the Elegant Butterfly Punch and mount onto another butterfly punched from Basic Black cardstock.
Mount to the card front and add Pearls to finish off the card.
Stamp Sets: Springtime Hello, Papillon Potpourri, Express Yourself
Ink: Basic Black, Printer Ink- Black, Stampin’ Write Markers- Island Indigo, So Saffron, Pear Pizzazz, Sahara Sand, Basic Black; Chalk Marker
Paper/Cardstock:  Whisper White, Basic Black, Crumb Cake, Soft Sky

DD90 Black Tie Spring- A Fun Shape with a Bee :-)

Hi Stampers!

This week’s DD90 “Black Tie Week” Dynamic Duo Challengecombines Daffodil Delight with Basic Black and the dessert option is a shaped/fun fold card.  Plus, I used six punches for the SUO90 Challenge that is still on for another week (seven if you count the corner rounder in the Envelope Punch Board :-))  This also was created with the LOVEFEST2014B Lovey Dovey Challenge at Splitcoaststampers in mind :-)

I have mentioned in the past that my husband and I collect antique honey dishes and one of the criteria that we generally seek is a bee on the dish.  Whenever I see black and yellow together, I think of those honey dishes so I knew that I would have to incorporate a little bee somewhere on my card :-).

Again, I hope that you will find the time to stop by and check out the rest of the Dynamic Duos Design Team projects and create one of your own using this week’s colors - we would love to have you join us!!

To create this card:

Repeatedly stamp the elements using Basic Black Classic Ink onto two pieces of the new Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper (DSP).  Loosely fill in the flowers using the Basic Black Stampin’ Write marker and the Chalk Marker for the centers (for the tag piece only).  Stamp the bee on the tag as well, leaving room for the treatment at the top of the tag.

Use the Big Shot™ with the largest Floral Frame Collection Framelit™ and cut out the card base (fold the Whisper White cardstock in half and make sure that the fold remains within the framelit™ so it would not be cut).

Also cut out a piece of the stamped Watercolor Wonder DSP (created in the step above without the Chalk Marker centers) with the same size framelit™ and adhere to the card base.  Add a scrap piece of Basic Black cardstock along the fold of the card, trimming the edges from behind as needed.

Cut the stamped DSP into a 2” strip and create the tag shape using the Scallop Tag Topper Punch.  Cut another tag from Basic Black cardstock and round the corners on both using the Envelope Punch Board.  Mount the Basic Black Scallop tag behind the DSP tag (I cut mine in half so the edges would show a bit at the top and bottom).

I used scraps for the next few steps- layer a piece of embossed Basic Black cardstock over the tag and trim to fit (previously embossed with the Square Lattice Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder- hard to see in the picture), add the stamped/punched sentiment (used the Hexagon Punch for the banner), the Basic Black leaves (from the Bird Builder Punch) and Daffodil Delight rolled flowers (see my previous posts on the rolled flowers using the 1 ¼” and 1 ½” Scallop Circle Punches).  Add the string of Pearls to cover the seam of the embossed layer.

Create the paper bow from another piece of embossed Basic Black cardstock (again, this one was embossed with the Square Lattice Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder).  I used the Large Oval Punch to create the loops and cut the tails with the Hexagon Punch.  Add the bow at the top of the tag, adhere the Large Pearl in the center.

Punch an embossed piece of Whisper White cardstock using the 2 ½” Circle Punch and a 2 ½” Circle from Basic Black cardstock- cut both in half, add the Basic Black layer behind the Whisper White and adhere to the card (the tag will cover the split).

Add the completed tag using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.  Use a Stampin’ Write Basic Black marker to color the edges of the die cut frame and lightly sponge Daffodil Delight Classic Ink to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets:  Springtime Hello
Ink: Basic Black, Daffodil Delight,  Stampin’ Write Marker- Basic Black; Chalk Marker
Paper/Cardstock:  Whisper White, Basic Black, Watercolor Wonder DSP
Accessories: Big Shot™, Square Lattice and Honeycomb Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folders, Floral Frames Collection Framelits™, Punches- Large Oval, Hexagon, 1 ¼” and 1 ½” Scallop Circle, 2 ½” Circle, Scallop Tag Punch, Bird Builder, Envelope Punch Board, Pearls, Sponge Dauber

Thanks again for taking the time to visit- I hope you can join in the fun with our DD90 Dynamic Duos “BlackTie” Challenge!

Je T'aime- Happy Anniversary!

Hi Stampers!!

This week my husband and I celebrate our wedding anniversary and I thought the CQC222 ColourQ Challenge colors would be perfect for a card with a masculine vintage feel.

My husband and I love to go "antiquing" and on our honeymoon, found our first antique honey dish.  Once of the criterias for our collecting the honey dishes has been that they have to have a bee image, beehive or the square honeycomb shape so when I found this paper from Graphic 45 with a few bee images, I thought it would be perfect for our anniversary card.

Again, if you have not already done so, I hope you will find the time to stop by the ColourQ site and check out all of the designs- such inspiration!!

To create this card:

Stamp the images from Off the Grid, Gorgeous Grunge and Established Elegance using Basic Gray Classic Ink onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock.

Stamp the bee image from Nature’s Pace using Basic Black Classic Ink, color using Stampin’ Write markers (Sahara Sand and Smoky Slate) and create a few gold highlights with the Stampin’ Dazzle Gold Marker and white highlights with the Chalk Marker.   Sponge a bit of Crumb Cake Classic Ink to distress the paper a bit

Trim the image and mount onto a piece of Gold Metallic paper and again onto a piece of Basic Black cardstock.  Add a few scraps of Gold Metallic paper to the sides and mount the focal image using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.

Add the sentiment banner and chipboard accent to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets: Nature’s Pace, Gorgeous Grunge, Off the Grid, Teeny Tiny Wishes

Ink: Basic Black, Basic Gray, Crumb Cake

Paper: Whisper White, Basic Black, Gold Metallic Paper, Graphic 45 DSP

Accessories: Sponge Dauber, Antique Brad, Hexagon Punch, Graphic 45 Chipboard piece

Thanks for visiting- I hope you have a wonderful week!
