SUO161 Happiest Birthday Wishes- Mixed Media Birthday Blooms

Hi Friends!

It’s time for the SUO161 “All Types of Celebrations” Challengeat SU-Only Challenges!  This year I am mailing more birthday cards than ever before so I decided to create a mixed media (mainly one layer) birthday card with Stampin’ Up! stamp sets, Birthday Blooms, Timeless Textures and Watercolor Wash.

I have linking to the TGIF #80 Color Challenge as well as The Flower Challenge #2 “A Special Occasion” Challenge ( I think birthdays are special occasions, don't you?).

I hope you will stop by the SU-Only Challenge site to check out the rest of the Design Team projects as well as the other challenge galleries- fabulous inspiration from all!

To create this card:

Ink the floral image from Birthday Blooms with Basic Black Archival Ink, stamp two images onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock and heat set with the Heat Tool.

Using Stampin’ Write Markers- Rich Razzleberry for the petals and Mint Macaron for the leaves, scribble the ink onto an acrylic block and pick up the color with an AquaPainter™ to watercolor the images.

Apply the color directly to darken the shadows on the image and soften with the AquaPainter™.

Color the stamens with the Delightful Dijon marker and add white highlights with the White Gel Pen.

Carefully fussy-cut each of the flowers and FYI- I did edit a few leaves as I cut out the images (some were edited by mistake, oops!! :-)).

Using the Delightful Dijon Stampin’ Write Marker, apply color to the Watercolor Wash background stamp, use a sponge dauber to soften the strokes and lightly spritz with water before laying a piece of Whisper White cardstock over the image.

Ink the sentiment from Birthday Blooms with the Rich Razzleberry Stampin’ Write Marker (I was not near my ink pads for this card), stamp onto the panel, trim the panel before mounting onto the Rich Razzleberry cardstock and trim once more before mounting onto the Mint Macaron cardstock.

Trim the panel again and mount onto the Extra Thick Whisper White card base.

Add the first flower to the card front directly onto the background panel and mount the second flower with Stampin’ Dimensionals®.

To add a bit of shimmer, carefully apply Clear Wink of Stella® to the petals.

Ink the small splatter stamp from Timeless Textures with Rich Razzleberry ink, stamp off once and stamp onto the background to add additional texture and finish off the card.

Stamp Sets:  Birthday Blooms, Watercolor Wash, Timeless Textures

Ink: Stampin’ Archival Pad™- Basic Black; Stampin’ Write Markers- Delightful Dijon, Mint Macaron, Rich Razzleberry; Clear Wink of Stella®; White Gel Pen

Paper/Cardstock:  Whisper White, Extra Thick Whisper White, Rich Razzleberry, Mint Macaron

Tools/Accessories: AquaPainter™, Heat Tool

I hope this card has inspired you to pull out your Stampin’ Up! products and come  join us in the SU-Only “Any Type of Celebration” Challenge.

Thanks again for stopping by- hugs and have a great week!

Birthday Blooms- A Color, Sketch and Inspiration Challenge

Hi Friends!

I hope you are enjoying your week so far!

I needed to create a few more birthday cards for September and decided to incorporate the Pals Paper Arts PPA318 Sketch Challenge along with the Splitcoaststampers’ CC601 Color Challenge and the Just Add Ink JAI329 Inspiration Challenge into the design (love all of the pinks and greens in this photo).

Woohoo!!  I was even able to use up a small piece of retired Designer Series Paper from the Print Poetry DSP Stack (even though the main background is Midnight Muse, the lettering appeared to be close to the Dapper Denim :-)).  Love using up part of my "stash"- lol!!

If you have not had a chance to check out the above challenge sites, I hope you will find time to do so- such inspiration from all!

To create this card:

Ink the sentiment from Rose Wonder with the Basic Black Stampin’ Archival™  Ink Pad and stamp onto the lower portion of a piece of Whisper White cardstock.

Add a bit of texture with the large splatter stamp from Gorgeous Grunge using ink from the Dapper Denim Stampin’ Write Marker.

Trim the panel and mount onto a piece of Dapper Denim cardstock, trim again and mount onto the Extra Thick Whisper White card base.

Use the Basic Black Stampin’ Archival™  Ink Pad to stamp the floral image from Birthday Blooms onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock and heat set with the Heat Tool .

Color the flower using an AquaPainter™ along with ink from the Stampin’ Write Markers (FYI- I "scribble" the ink from the marker onto an acrylic block or a silicone craft mat and lift with the water brush).  I used Melon Mambo for the flower petals and Mint Macaron for the leaves  (adding darker shadows with the marker directly to the image and blending with the AquaPainter™).

Fussy cut the flower and add the white highlights with the White Gel Pen.

Use the Big Shot™ with the Woodgrain Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder to emboss a piece of Mint Macaron cardstock and mount onto a piece of Dapper Denim.

Cut a 2  1/4" square piece of the retired Print Poetry Designer Series Paper (DSP) and mount onto a piece of Dapper Denim cardstock.

Create the Melon Mambo banner with the Banner Triple Punch, lightly stamp the grid image from Timeless Textures using Melon Mambo ink (from the marker), layer the embossed Mint Macaron layer directly to the card front and adhere the Melon Mambo banner over the edge of the Mint Macaron layer.

Adhere the fussy cut flower to the Print Poetry square layer and mount onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals®.

Finish off the card with a few Pearls in the corner and adding Clear Wink of Stella® to the blossoms.

Stamp Sets: Birthday Blooms, Gorgeous Grunge, Rose Wonder, Timeless Textures

Ink/Mediums: Basic Black Archival Stampin’ Pad™, Stampin’ Write Markers- Dapper Denim, Melon Mambo, Mint Macaron; White Gel Pen, Clear Wink of Stella®

Paper: Whisper White, Dapper Denim, Melon Mambo, Mint Macaron; retired Print Poetry DSP

Accessories: Big Shot™, Woodgrain Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder, AquaPainter™, Heat Tool, Pearls

Thanks again for taking the time to stop by- hugs and have a great week!

Birthday Blooms with Rose Wonder

Hi Friends!

I hope you are having a wonderful week so far!  I had a chance to play around in my stamping studio this weekend and will need to wait to share some of the cards later this week (new releases, etc.),  but wanted to create a quick card using the Simon SaysWednesday “Add Some Shimmer” Challenge along with the Just Add Ink JAI317 "Colour Combo" Challenge and the Splitcoaststampers’ SC25 Sketch Challenge (flipped the sketch and this challenge was in 2005...still a great reference for inspiration).

Not sure why, but I struggle pairing yellows and pinks together but I think the darker Rose Red with the Flirty Flamingo seems to work well with Crushed Curry- don't you?

If you have not had a chance to check out the above challenge sites, I hope you will find time to do so- wonderful examples from all!

To create this card:

Use a Sponge Dauber to apply Crushed Curry Classic Ink with the My Favorite Things® (MFT) On the Diagonal Stencil to a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock.

Trim the panel, stamp the sentiment from Rose Wonder using ink from the Basic Black Archival Stampin’ Pad™,  add a few flourishes from Timeless Textures (colored with the Flirty Flamingo Stampin’ Write marker before spritzing and stamping onto the panel), mount onto a piece of Flirty Flamingo cardstock, trim again and mount onto the Rose Red card front and adhere the entire panel to the Extra Thick Whisper White card base.

Stamp the flower from Birthday Blooms using Basic Black Archival Stampin’ Pad™ onto Whisper White cardstock, heat set with the Heat Tool and color with Stampin’ Write Markers- Pear Pizzazz for the leaves, Flirty Flamingo and Rose Red for the petals and Crushed Curry for the stamens (use an AquaPainter™ to soften the colors).

Fussy-cut the image and mount onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Add a few sequins to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets: Birthday Blooms, Timeless Textures, Rose Wonder (all Stampin’ Up!)

Ink/Mediums: Basic Black Archival Stampin’ Pad™, Crushed Curry; Stampin’ Write Markers- Crushed Curry, Flirty Flamingo, Rose Red

Paper: Whisper White, Very Vanilla, Flirty Flamingo, Rose Red

Accessories: AquaPainter™, MFT On the Diagonal Stencil, Sequins (from my stash)

Thanks again for taking the time to stop by- hugs and have a great week!

Hi Friends!

Woohoo!!  It’s time for the SUO151 “Favorite New Papers” Challenge!

I have not had a chance to purchase any of the new 2016 Designer Series Paper (DSP) yet, so I am using some of the new 2016-2018 In-Colors (of which, I love them all :-)).

For this Mixed Media card I decided to pair Dapper Denim, Emerald Envy and Sweet Sugarplum with Heat and Dry Embossing.

I hope you will have a chance to check out my sister DesignTeam member samples at the SU-Only Challenge site as well as pull out your Stampin’ Up! supplies and join in on the fun!

This card is very easy to create:

Use Stampin’ Write Markers- Sweet Sugarplum and Emerald Envy to color the flower and watercolor the panel with Dapper Denim.

Add additional texture with the Timeless Textures grid image along with the splatter stamp using Dapper Denim Classic Ink.

Cut the panel with the Project Life® Framelits™, mount onto Dapper Denim cardstock and add Clear Wink of Stella® to the flower petals.

Emboss the piece of Emerald Envy cardstock with the Boho Chic Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder, trim and mount onto Whisper White cardstock, trim and mount onto the Dapper Denim card front, trim and mount onto the Extra Thick Whisper White card base..

Add the Whisper White panel with the Teeny Tiny Wishes sentiment, Silver Cord (retired) and mount the focal image panel with Stampin’ Dimensionals®.

Close-up of main panel :-)
Add a few Pearls to finish off the card.

Happy Birthday Blooms for Bert :-)

Hi Friends!

I am sharing a fun birthday card that I designed for my dear friend Bert using a modified version of the Smakin’ Acetate technique (see the Splitcoaststampers’ tutorial here) along with the Splitcoaststampers’ CC584 Color Challenge and  Seize the Birthday 05/19 Topping- "Adding Dimension" challenge (second cards for both of these challenges).

While this card is primarily a one layer card, the button is a bit dimensional and the "topping" for the Seize The Birthday challenge is optional :-)

Bert loves pink and just purchased Watermelon Wonder ink so when I saw the colors for this week’s challenge, I knew that I would have to make a card for her.

My friend Susan and I had a great day celebrating by taking Bert to lunch and then going back to Bert's house to create a card similar to this one using Melon Mambo and the new Flirty Flamingo :-) It was a wonderful, relaxing day with good friends...

If you have not had a chance to visit the Splitcoaststampers’ galleries yet, I highly encourage you to do so- fabulous inspiration from all!

To create this card:

Create a mask for the sentiment area from sticky note or scrap paper.

Ink the Birthday Bloom floral image with using Stampin’ Archival™ Basic Black Ink, stamp onto the top of the masked area as well as the bottom and heat set the ink with the Heat Tool.

Using Stampin’ Write Markers- Pumpkin Pie and Watermelon Wonder along with an AquaPainter™, color the flower blossoms.

Color the leaves in the same manner with Pear Pizzazz and Always Artichoke markers and color the centers directly with the Crushed Curry marker.

Once you are satisfied with the flowers, stamp the sentiment from Rose Wonder in the center using Stampin’ Archival™ Basic Black Ink and heat set with the Heat Tool.
For the splattered background, cut open a clear envelope (I slit the one side, top and bottom of a clear packaging envelope to create an opening like a book), add Pumpkin Pie and Watermelon Wonder Classic Ink directly to the inside of the clear envelope, spritz with water and “close” the top part of the envelope.

"Smoosh" the ink inside with your fingers (smoosh is a combination of squish squiggle and smash :-)) , open the envelope and lay the stamped panel face down onto portions of the ink (lifting and re-positioning in the ink as you continue over the panel).

Dry the ink with the Heat Tool, add shadows with the Watermelon Wonder marker and AquaPainter™.

Ink the grid stamp from Timeless Textures using Crushed Curry and stamp over the background, add splatter stamping with Stampin’ Archival™ Basic Black Ink and the splatter stamp, trim and mount onto the Extra Thick Whisper White card base.

FYI- Originally this was a one layer panel with just the image popped up on the card front with dimensional foam but I had made a mistake on the initial stamping and flipped the card front over to use the back (now you know my secrets-lol!).  To my dismay, the initial inking from the error was visible on the sides- yikes!!  Since I could not remove the panel from the card base, I had to cut thin strips of the metallic gold cardstock and gently (and very patiently) add them to create a “frame” and hide the stamping on the back...the card is not as “wavy” as it appears in the photo though but since I have already given it to Bert, I could not take anymore photos :-)  Now you know the "rest of the story" - lol!!

Loop some Gold Thread through the retired Pumpkin Pie button, tie a bow, flip the button over, mount it to the card front and clip the loops.

Use a Stampin’ Write Basic Black marker with a ruler to add the lines to the top and bottom of the sentiment area and add Clear Wink of Stella® to all of the blossoms to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets:  Birthday Bloom, Rose Wonder, Timeless Textures

Ink: Stampin’ Archival™ Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie, Watermelon Wonder Classic Ink;  Stampin’ Write Markers- Pumpkin Pie, Watermelon Wonder, Crushed Curry, Pear Pizzazz, Always Artichoke, Basic Black;  Clear Wink of Stella®

Paper/Cardstock: Whisper White, Extra Thick Whisper White, Gold Metallic

Accessories:  Clear Envelope, Water Spritzer Bottle, AquaPainter™, Gold Thread, retired Pumpkin Pie Button

Thanks again for taking the time to stop by- I hope you have a fabulous week, my friends!
