TCC158 Cast Your Cares

Hi Friends!

Welcome to The Card Concept #158 {Long Summer Days} Challenge!

For those of you who are not familiar with
The Card Concept Challenge, we are a bi-weekly challenge that uses an inspiration photo for you to create a card.

You can choose one card-making style or a combination of styles, the choice is yours!  Plus, our Design Team of ten ladies create a card to help give you even more inspiration!

I love this photo, don't you? The beach theme, the colors as well as the textures inspired me to create a Mixed Media card using a few retired Stampin’ Up! stamps as well as a retired Verve stamp set for the sentiment.

Also, FYI- this will be our last challenge for the summer (but we will return in the fall).

Normally our challenge would end in two weeks, but we have decided to keep the challenge open all summer to allow you to participate as you have time.

We will resume with The Card Concept Challenges on Sept. 1st with our DT announcement and our first challenge on Sept. 8th.

Also, as those of you who follow me know, I have a personal goal to create a card for each of the Splitcoaststampers Sketch Challenges and incorporated the #SC594 Sketch Challenge into the design.

I am also joining the More Mixed Media Challenge June "Anything Goes Optional Purple" along with the Double Trouble #87 "It's Hip to Be Square" Challenge (for Thing #1, I used a circle and Thing #3- I heat embossed the sentiment).

If you have not had a chance to visit The Card Concept, or the other challenge sites yet, I encourage you to do so- gorgeous inspiration from all!

To create this card:

Trim a piece of kraft cardstock to 4” x 5 ¼”.  Repeatedly stamp the script image (retired Notable Notions) with ground espresso distress ink over the background.

De-static the lower right-hand area, stamp the verse sentiment (retired Verve stamps) with Versafine™ Onyx Black ink, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Apply pearl texture paste using a scallop stencil onto the background area.  Allow the paste to dry for approx. one hour.

Ink the Seaside Sketches (retired Stampin’ Up!) image with Versafine™ Onyx Black ink and stamp onto a piece of white cardstock.

Watercolor the image with watercolor pencils, distress ink and distress oxide inks and once satisfied with the coloring, die cut with a stitched circle die.

Mount onto another larger circle die cut from light blue cardstock.

Stamp the seashells from Stippled Shells and By the Seashore with Versafine™ Onyx Black ink onto white cardstock, heat set with a heat tool.

Watercolor with Stampin’ Write markers, distress ink and fussy cut the images.  Use a black marker to edge the shell images.

Mount the stenciled background onto white cardstock, trim close to the edge.

Add the blue checked layered panel of designer paper, the cream burlap ribbon, and the light blue grosgrain ribbon (wrapping the ends of the blue ribbon behind the background panel).

Mount the panel onto light blue cardstock and adhere to a white card base.

Mount the die cut focal image with dimensional foam (or chipboard), add the seashells around the edges (again, with dimensional foam/chipboard).

Use a clear glitter pen to add shimmer to the seashells as well as the water.

Finish off the card with rhinestones on the upper left and lower right-hand corners.

Stamp Sets: Seaside Sketches, Stipple Shells, By the Seashore, Notable Notions (all retired Stampin’ Up!), Faith Medley (retired Verve Stamps)

Ink/Mediums: Versafine™ Onyx Black Ink, Watercolor Pencils- Derwent, Stampin’ Up!, etc. –Blues, Browns, Beige, Tim Holtz™ Distress Ink- Ground Espresso, Faded Jeans, Pumice Stone, Distress Oxide- Tumbled Glass; Spectrum Noir™ Clear Glitter Marker, Pitt Penn Black Marker, Dreamweaver Pearlescent Embossing Paste

I thought the colors and patterns in the Echo Park Cupid & Co 6x6 Paper Pad  would be perfect for a pink floral card for a new little girl in your life! Plus, I had to add lace, ribbon, and a pearl- a girl must have her frills and jewelry, right?

If you have not had a chance to visit the Stamp Simply blog or the other challenge sites yet, I encourage you to do so- gorgeous inspiration from all!

To create this card:

Using the Darice Wire Fence embossing folder, emboss a piece of light pink cardstock.  Trim to 4” x 5 ¼” and mount onto a 4 ¼” x 5 ½” piece of white cardstock.

Add a piece of white lace across the panel along with a strip of moss seam binding (wrapping the ends of the seam binding behind the panel).

Mount the panel onto a white card base.

Die cut the medium oval from the Hemstitch Oval Dies, stamp the sentiment from the new Welcome Baby stamp set with Versafine Onyx Black ink and heat set with a heat tool.

Adhere the oval die cut to the card front (overlapping the ribbon and lace).

Die cut the “onsie” die from the Welcome Baby Basics from a floral piece and the little heart from a solid red piece of paper from the Echo Park Cupid & Co 6x6 Paper Pad.

Die cut the bib from white cardstock and layer all together (I also die cut an additional “onsie” from white cardstock to mount behind the entire image to give it additional strength).

Mount the layered die cut onto the card front with dimensional foam (or chipboard).

Add the moss green seam binding bow and pearl to the center of the heart to finish off the card.

Stamp Simply Summer Floral Release- Pretty Poppies and Delightful Dahlias!

Hi Friends!

Today I am sharing two cards that were created with the brand-new Summer Floral bundles- Pretty Poppies and Delightful Dahlias along with dies/other supplies (from Stamp Simply)!

This week we are celebrating the new release by sharing cards created with both sets- I hope you have a chance to check out the Stamp Simply blog to see the inspiration from the rest of our
Design Team!

I love both new floral bundles, Pretty Poppies and Delightful Dahlias- both are so versatile! This set of cards uses one sheet of Craft Consortium Grunge Light 6x6 paper layered behind the Mixed Media #1 die cut.

I am participating with the A Place To Start June 2021 Challenge #6- Create Your Own Challenge (Project Type- Card, Event- Encouragement, Trends- Embossing) and the Word Art Wednesday #495-#496 “Anything Goes” Challenge.

If you have not had a chance to visit the Stamp Simply blog or the other challenge sites yet, I encourage you to do so- wonderful inspiration from all!

To create both cards:

Emboss two pieces of white cardstock with the Darice Wire Fence embossing folder, trim to 4” x 5 ¼”, adhere to a 4 ¼” x 5 ½” piece of olive cardstock.  Mount the card panel onto a white card base.

Ink the sentiments from the Pretty Poppies and Delightful Dahlias on white cardstock, die cut each with the Fishtail Sentiment Banners dies.

Using the Tim Holtz Mixed Media #1 corner die, die cut two from white cardstock panels and hand tear along the edges.

Choose a piece of Craft Consortium Grunge Light 6x6 paper (I chose one of the darker sheets with greens, purples and yellows).

Place the torn Mixed Media die cut over the corner of the designer paper, trace a line under the outside edge of the torn die cut, trim the designer paper and adhere the designer paper to the back of the Mixed Media die cut.

Ink the floral image from Pretty Poppies and Delightful Dahlias using Versafine Onyx Black ink, stamp onto white cardstock and set the ink with a heat tool.

Watercolor the images using water-based markers and once you are satisfied with the coloring, die cut each floral image with the coordinating die.

Layer two pieces of scrap white cardstock together and die cut one of each of the coordinating floral dies.  Layer the blank die cuts behind each of the colored floral die-cut images (this gives the floral images additional thickness).

Adhere the layered Mixed Media die cut to the card front, mount the banner die cut sentiment and add the floral die cut with dimensional foam (or chipboard).

Use a clear glitter pen to add shimmer to the floral petals and add the olive seam binding bow to finish off the card.

TCC157 Three Decoys

Hi Friends!

Welcome to The Card Concept #157 {Vacation Time} Challenge!

For those of you who are not familiar with The Card Concept Challenge, we are a bi-weekly challenge that uses an inspiration photo for you to create a card.

You can choose one card-making style and/or a combination of styles, the choice is yours!  Plus, our Design Team of ten ladies create a card to inspire you.

I absolutely love our inspiration photo- so many elements to choose from for sure!  I was inspired by the texture of the woodgrain and that sweet little mallard duck near the canoe to create a simple Mixed Media card.

My husband and I love to drive through the mountains, especially Shenandoah National Park!  While we are unable to camp and hike due to health issues, this inspiration photo reminds me of those times and that we need to go again soon, lol!

As many of you know, I enjoy participating with challenges and will be linking to the Watercooler Wednesday #WWC317 Heidi’s Challenge: All Things Masculine and The Male Room #151 Dads and Grandads Challenge.

If you have not had a chance to visit The Card Concept, or the other challenge sites yet, I encourage you to do so- fabulous inspiration from all!

To create this card:

Emboss a piece of woodgrain cardstock (approx. 4” x 3”) with a woodgrain embossing folder, lightly sand with a sanding black and distress the edges.

Distress the edges of a piece of olive-green designer paper (approx. 4” x 3”).

Add the distressed olive-green paper to the top of a 4 ¼” x 5 ½” piece of black cardstock, layer the embossed woodgrain panel on the bottom (overlapping the green panel a bit).

Add a strip of 1” black grosgrain ribbon to cover up the raw edges (wrapping the ends behind the panel) and mount the panel onto a white card base.

Ink the I/O Three Decoys stamp set with Versafine™ Onyx Black ink, stamp onto a piece of white cardstock and heat set with a heat tool.

Color the image with watercolor pencils (using a water brush to soften the pencil and create the watercolor).

Tap a bit of Tim Holtz™ Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink onto a glass mat and use the water brush to create the sky.

Fill in the “moon” with Frost White Shimmer Paint (I used the water brush for this as well).

Dry the colored image with a heat tool and die cut with a rectangle stitched die.

De-static the lower left-hand portion of the panel with an embossing powder tool.

Stamp the verse sentiment from the retired Verve Stamp set, Scripture Medley 4 using Versafine™ Onyx Black ink onto the prepared panel, apply clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.

Die cut a larger rectangle from black cardstock.

To finish off the card, mount the duck decoy panel onto the die-cut black panel and adhere to the card front with dimensional foam (or chipboard).

Stamp Sets: Three Decoys (Impression Obsession Stamps – IO Stamps), Scripture Medley 4 (retired Verve Stamps)

Ink/Mediums: Versafine™ Onyx Black Ink, Watercolor Pencils- Derwent, Stampin’ Up!, etc. – Olive Green, Espresso, Curry, Gray, Orange; Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink, Frost White Shimmer Paint

Paper/Cardstock: Whisper White, Basic Black, retired Woodgrain Designer Series Paper (Stampin’ Up!), misc. designer series paper (olive)

Tools/Accessories: Gemini, Jr., Woodgrain Embossing Folder (retired Stampin’ Up!), Stitched Rectangle A2 STAX Set 1 & 2 (My Favorite Things), Heat Tool, Embossing Buddy™, Clear Embossing Powder, 1” Black Grosgrain Ribbon, Distressing Tool, Sanding Block

Thanks again for stopping by!  We hope you will have the time to create a card based on our inspiration photo and join us at The Card Concept! The challenge is open until June 21st at noon EST.

The Red, White and Blue- Thank You For Your Service

Hi Friends!

Today I am sharing a card created with the brand new Red, White and Blue Bundle and the new God Bless America 6x6 Paper Pad by Carta Bella along with dies/other supplies (from Stamp Simply )!

The Red, White and Blue Bundle is such a great set!  I love the flag image as well as the coordinating dies and the wonderful sentiments and it pairs beautifully with the other patriotic sets from Stamp Simply as well as with the God Bless America 6x6 Paper Pad by Carta Bella.

This past Monday, we celebrated Memorial Day with picnics, family get-togethers (especially this year with COVID restrictions being lifted), etc. and sometimes in doing so, we forget the real meaning of the holiday.

In honor of Memorial Day, I decided to create a “Thank You for Your Service” card- remember,

Freedom is not free- may we never forget their sacrifice.

This is a fairly simple design and I was able to incorporate the Splitcoaststampers SC850 Sketch and am also linking this card to the Festive Friday #FF0085 Challenge (stars, stripes, flag dies, embossing ) , the C.R.A.F.T. #600 “Masculine” Challenge and the Word Art Wednesday #493-#494 “Anything Goes” Challenge.

If you have not had a chance to visit the Stamp Simply blog or the other challenge sites yet, I encourage you to do so- gorgeous inspiration from all!

To create this card:

Emboss a piece of white cardstock using the Tim Holtz 3D Lumber embossing folder, trim to approx. 4” x 5 ¼”, mat onto a piece of 4 ¼” x 5 ½” navy cardstock and mount onto a white card base.

Die cut a piece of red polka dot paper from the God Bless America paper pad with the Fishtail Sentiment Banners dies.

Mount the flag die cut onto navy cardstock and trim close to the edge. (FYI- I extended the length of the flag die cut by splitting it in half since the cut would be hidden by the main panel).  Adhere the flag to the background panel.

On a piece of white cardstock, repeatedly stamp the word block image from Red, White, and Blue stamp set using Versamark ink, apply white embossing powder, heat set with a heat tool.   Trim the panel, tear the lower edge by hand, mount onto navy cardstock, tear the edge to match the embossed panel, distressing the edges.

Add a strip of the star design from the God Bless America paper pad  (this strip was the piece that I trimmed from the page that normally would be discarded- again cut in half where the hole is at the top of the paper pad and split to reach both sides of the panel).

Stamp the sentiment from the Red, White, and Blue stamp set using navy ink onto white cardstock, die cut with the Fishtail Sentiment Banners dies (die cutting two additional flags from white cardstock to mount behind the sentiment).  Add to the panel with dimensional foam.

Stamp the flag image from Red, White, and Blue stamp set using Versafine Onyx Black ink onto white cardstock, heat set with a heat tool.

Color the flag with watercolor pencils and use a water brush to blend the colors.

Die cut the flag image with the coordinating Red, White and Blue Flag Die (again, cutting two additional flag shapes from white cardstock to mount behind the stamped and colored flag image).

Mount the layered flag onto the card front with dimensional foam and add a few silver rhinestones to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets: Stamp Simply Clear Stamps- The Red, White & Blue , Stamp Simply Clear Stamps/Dies- Red, White & Blue Bundle

Ink/Mediums:  Versafine Onyx Black, Versamark , Tim Holtz Blueprint Sketch Distress Ink, Watercolor Pencils- Derwent - #14- Deep Vermillion, #15-Geranium Lake, #28- Delft Blue, #57- Brown Ochre; Stampin’ Up!- Early Espresso

Cardstock/Designer Paper:  White, Navy, God Bless America 6x6 Paper Pad by Carta Bella

Accessories/Tools: Gemini, Jr. ,Sizzix 3D Texture Fades A6 Embossing Folder- Lumber, Stamp Simply Steel Dies- The Red, White & Blue Flag, Stamp Simply Steel Dies- Fishtail Sentiment Banners, Silver Rhinestones, Embossing Powder Tool, White Embossing Powder, Heat Tool

Hugs and I hope you stop by again soon!
