The Card Concept #105- Favorite Card from 2018

Hi Friends!

We know that most of you are very busy during the Christmas season and New Year but wanted to have a challenge that you could participate with us that would be easy.

To play along, just share with us either your favorite card that you designed in 2018 or a photo of your Christmas tree this year.

Since our Christmas tree is very small and it is hard to get a great photo, I am sharing one of my favorite cards from 2018.

This card was created for The Card Concept #91 Challenge and all of the free step by step instructions can be found in this blog post.

Thanks again for your faithful participation with The Card Concept in 2018 and we are looking forward to another great year in 2019!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

TCC67 Friendship is a Journey

Hi Friends!!

It’s time for The Card Concept #67 “Vintage” Challenge!  I love the vintage elements in our inspiration photo- the heart, metal tin, script background, browns as well as the gold!

I decided to create a Mixed Media Shabby Chic card using retired Stampin’ Up! stamp sets, French Script and Friendship’s Journey.  I love the vintage images and these stamps will remain part of my collection for years to come!

I decided to incorporate the  Happy Little Stampers February 2017 Mixed Media Challenge “Tear/Rip” into the design.

I hope you will find the time to check out the wonderful Design Team cards at The Card Concept as well as the HLS challenge gallery- gorgeous inspiration from all!

To create this card:

1). Ink the retired Stampin’ Up! French Script background stamp using TH Ground Espresso Distress Ink, stamp onto a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock, distress the edges with a distressing tool and apply TH Vintage Photo Distress Ink  with a sponge dauber over the edges.

2). De-static a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock with an Embossing Buddy®, stamp the retired Stampin’ Up! Friendship’s Journey image with Versamark™ Ink onto the prepared cardstock, apply  Stampin’ Emboss® Early Espresso Embossing Powder and heat set with the heat tool.  Once the embossing has cooled, water color with TH Brushed Cordoruy, Walnut Stain and Vintage Photo Distress Inks and apply TH Tarnished Brass Distress Stain to the heart, locket, flowers and other areas.

3). Hand tear around the entire panel, sponge additional TH Vintage Photo Distress Ink over the edges and mount onto the distressed script panel.

4). Mount the entire panel onto a piece of Early Espresso cardstock, distress the edges with a distressing tool before mounting onto the white card base.

5). De-static a piece of Early Espresso cardstock, stamp the sentiment from Friendship’s Journey with Versamark™ Ink, apply Stampin’ Emboss® Gold Embossing Powder and heat set with a heat tool.  Trim the panel and mount onto the card front with dimensional foam.

6). Use an Extra Fine White Sharpie® Paint Pen to add white highlights to the flowers and finish off the card with a few pearls.

Stamp Sets: Friendship’s Journey, French Script (both retired Stampin’ Up!)

Ink/Mediums: Versamark®, TH Distress Inks- Vintage Photo, Brushed Corduroy, Ground Espresso, Walnut Stain; TH Tarnessed Brass Distress Stain, Extra Fine Sharpie® White Paint Pen

Paper: Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake, Early Espresso

HYCCT1411 Friendship is A Journey

Hi Stampers!

Here is another card that I created for the Hope You Can Cling To Challenge (HYCCT)  atSplitcoaststampers this past week.

This card was created for the HYCCT1411 philsmom aka Fran’s  “Chicks Stick Together”  Challenge - (see the gallery here and the details here) along with the Splitcoaststampers SC450 Sketch (I love this versatile sketch).

To create this card:

Ink the main stamp from Friendship’s Journey using Memento™ Tuxedo Black Ink onto Whisper White cardstock and color using the AquaPainter™ with Stampin’ Up! Watercolor pencils.

Add distressing using a Sponge Dauber with Baked Brown Sugar Classic Ink and also stamp the large splatter stamp from Gorgeous Grunge using Baked Brown Sugar Classic Ink.  Use the Distressing Tool to distress the edges of the panel.

Sew the stamped panel onto a piece of Elegant Eggplant cardstock and distress the edges of the Elegant Eggplant layer with the Distressing Tool.

Use the Distressing Tool to distress the card base layer of Elegant Eggplant and a piece of retired Domestic Goddess Designer Series Paper (DSP).  Use the sewing machine to adhere the layers together and add the 1 ½” Satin Ribbon.

Mount the sewn background layer onto the Whisper White card base and add “antiquing” using a Sponge Dauber with Baked Brown Sugar Classic Ink along the edges
Distress the So Saffron DSP panel from the retired Tea Party DSP and sew onto a panel of Elegant Eggplant cardstock.  Distress the Elegant Eggplant layer as well and sponge Baked Brown Sugar Classic Ink over the edges and paper to add a bit of “antiquing”.

Adhere the So Saffron panel to the card front and add the stamped focal image using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.

Stamp the image using Memento™ Tuxedo Black Ink onto Whisper White cardstock, create the banner points using the Hexagon Punch and add distressing using a Sponge Dauber with Baked Brown Sugar Classic Ink as well as the splatter stamp from Gorgeous Grunge.

Add the sentiment to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals® and mount the retired Elegant Eggplant button to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets: Friendship’s Journey, Gorgeous Grunge

Happy 19th Birthday!! Another Alcohol Marker Marbling Experiment for Two Lovely Nieces :-)

Hi Stampers!!

This weekend we are celebrating my twin niece’s 19th birthday and I wanted to create their birthday cards using the Alcohol Marker Marbling technique (see the Splitcoaststampers tutorial here) along with the Splitcoaststampers WT497 Stencil It! Challenge using a mixed media collage design.

I must admit, I love this marker technique- it is so addicting!!

Since they are twins, I wanted to create similar cards geared towards their interests in college- one has taken a music path and the other art.

To create the background panels for both cards:

Using the medium marker from the Night of Navy Stampin’ Blendabilities™ Collection, scribble some color onto the zip lock bag as noted in the tutorial , add additional color onto the zip lock bag using the dark markers from the Daffodil Delight, Old Olive and Wisteria Wonder Stampin’ Bleandabilities™ and spritz with rubbing alcohol.

Lay a piece of Glossy White cardstock over the ink and lift up, spritz the ink again with the rubbing alcohol, lay a second piece of Glossy White cardstock over the moistened ink and lift for your second print (I used the second print for one of the cards and the first print for the other).

Allow to the panel to dry and use Sponge Daubers to apply Blackberry Bliss, Island Indigo, Mossy Meadow to the Positively Chevron background stamp and sporadically press the stamp over the marbled marker background piece.

Using the Island Indigo Classic Ink along with a Sponge Dauber, stencil the hexagon areas and use a stenciling brush with Gesso to stencil the circles.

Using StazOn® Jet Black Ink, stamp off onto scrap paper and stamp the flowers from Choose Happiness onto the background panel.   To create the masks for the flowers- stamp a few flowers onto sticky note paper, “fussy-cut” around the edges (don’t forget to leave a bit of the sticky strip at the top).

Mask the flowers and stamp a few more flowers onto the panel as well as the leaf stems using StazOn® Jet Black Ink.  Apply additional Blackberry Bliss and Island Indigo Classic Ink using a Sponge Dauber to the flower petals.

Fill in the leaves and stems using a Black 199 Fiber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen and darken the details on the flower petals.

Using Blackberry Bliss Classic Ink, stamp the image from Friendship’s Journey onto the panel.

Add white highlights using a Fiber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen White 101 to the flower centers to finish off the background panel.

For the musical card with the punched squares (the punched squares were a result of a "too busy" background- lol!!) :

Ink the background stamp, Musical Score using Mossy Meadow Classic Ink, lay portions of the background panel onto the stamp and randomly stamp a few areas.

Using the 1 ¼” Square Punch, punch out the entire panel.   Randomly position the punched squares and adhere to a piece of Whisper White cardstock, trim and mount onto the Island Indigo panel.

Add a 5/8” Satin Ribbon bow along with the sentiment (stamped onto Glossy White cardstock, trimmed and banner points created with the Hexagon Punch).

Adhere the sentiment as well as the bow to the front of the panel and add to the Island Indigo cardstock panel, trim and mount onto the Whisper White card base.

For the second card:

Add a 5/8” Satin Ribbon bow along with the sentiment (stamped onto Glossy White cardstock, trimmed and banner points created with the Hexagon Punch).

Adhere the sentiment as well as the bow to the front of the panel and add to the Blackberry Bliss cardstock panel, trim and mount onto the Whisper White card base.

Stamp Sets:  Choose Happiness, Positively Chevron (background, Friendship’s Journey (retired) , Musical Score (retired background), Short & Sweet (retired)

Ink: Staz-On® Jet Black, Blackberry Bliss, Island Indigo, Mossy Meadow Classic Ink; Stampin’ Blendabilities™- Daffodil Delight, Night of Navy, Old Olive and Wisteria Wonder Collections; Fiber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen- White and Black

Paper: Glossy White, Whisper White, Blackberry Bliss, Island Indigo

Accessories: Gesso, Hexagon and Circle Stencil, Stencil Brush, Sponge Dauber, Hexagon Punch, Plastic Zip Bag, 5/8” Satin Ribbon, 1 ¼” Square Punch

CC491 Friendship's Journey

Hi Stampers!

Here is the second card that I created using this week’s CC491 “Blackberry Saffron Bay”colors at Splitcoaststampers along with the SC500 Sketch Challenge (to use one of the sketches from SC400-SC499- I chose SC435 and flipped the sketch upright) :-)

This card also has the has “dessert” to add a sentiment – you have to look close (below the rolled flowers) to see the “love” banner  :-)

If you have not had a chance to do, I hope that you will take a moment to visit the gallery for inspiration, create your own card with this week’s colors and join in on the fun!

To create this card:

Ink the focal using Memento™ Tuxedo Black Ink and stamp onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock.

Color the images using an AquaPainter™ with Bermuda Bay, Blackberry Bliss and So Saffron Classic Ink and add additional details with the corresponding Stampin’ Write markers.

Use the Crumb Cake Stampin’ Write marker to add shadows, trim and mount onto a piece of Blackberry Bliss cardstock, trim again and mount onto a piece of Bermuda Bay cardstock.

Ink the retired background stamp, En Francais using Blackberry Bliss Classic Ink and stamp onto a piece of retired I Am Me Designer Series Paper (DSP).

Use the Big Shot™ with the retired Lacy Brocade Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder to emboss the stamped DSP panel.  Lightly sand with the Sanding Block, trim and mount onto a piece of Blackberry Bliss cardstock, trim and mount onto the Bermuda Bay card base.

Trim a piece of Park Lane DSP to create two squares and mount onto pieces of Bermuda Bay cardstock and add to the background panel (per the sketch).

Mount the focal image using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.

Create the rolled roses from Blackberry Bliss cardstock using the 2 3/8” and 1 ¾” Scallop Circle Punch – cut a wavy line from the outside of the scallop toward the center.   Use the retired Crimper Tool to crimp the roses and roll up toward the center.  Use a Hot Glue Gun to adhere the outside edges to the center part of the scallop- here is a basic tutorial from Splitcoaststampers.

Stamp the banner from the retired Banner Blast stamp set using Blackberry Bliss Classic Ink, punch out with the Banner Punch , mount onto a banner punched from Bermuda Bay cardstock and add to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.

Punch the leaves from Bermuda Bay cardstock using the Bird Builder Punch.  Using the Hot Glue Gun, add the leaves with the rolled roses to the front of the card.

Stamp Sets: Friendship’s Journey, Banner Blast (both retired)

Ink: Memento™ Tuxedo Black, Bermuda Bay, Blackberry Bliss, Crumb Cake, So Saffron; Stampin’ Write Markers- Bermuda Bay, Blackberry Bliss, Crumb Cake, So Saffron

Imagine The Possibilities- A Vintage Graduation

Hi Stampers!

I needed another graduation card for a young lady that likes to read historical novels so I thought the retired set, Friendship’s Journey would be the perfect choice.

To create this card:

Using the Embossing Buddy®, de-static a piece of Whisper White cardstock and stamp the image from Friendship’s Journey  and sentiment from Word Play using Versamark™ ink.  Apply Stampin’ Emboss® Early Espresso Embossing Powder and heat with the Heat Tool.

Once cooled, color with the vintage girl image using Stampin’ Write markers- So Saffron, River Rock, Wild Wasabi, Crumb Cake, Blush Blossom, Bashful Blue, Elegant Eggplant, Wisteria Wonder and Perfect Plum. Distress the edges with the Distressing Tool and use a Sponge Dauber to apply Crumb Cake and Soft Suede Classic Ink to “antique” the paper.

Ink the vintage girl image with Crumb Cake Classic Ink and stamp over the sentiment.  Punch out using the 2 ½” Circle Punch and adhere a 2 ½” circle of Early Espresso cardstock behind the sentiment.

Use the Big Shot™ to emboss a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock with the Lacy Brocade Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder (ink the interior of the folder with Crumb Cake Classic Ink prior to embossing).

Add the 5/8” Satin Ribbon triple ribbon bow and sentiment.   Adhere the focal image using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.  Add the Elegant Eggplant rolled flowers with Pearl centers to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets: Friendship’s Journey, Word Play
