TCC96- Cast Your Cares

Hi Friends!

It’s time for the #96 {Golden Table} Challenge at The Card Concept! FYI- This will be the last challenge for the summer and The Card Concept will resume in September. 

Isn’t this a gorgeous photo?  I was inspired by the beautiful blossoms in the coral hues as well as the gold silverware and the woodgrain to create a Classy and Elegant Mixed Media card! I decided to pull out the retired Blooming with Kindess Stampin’ Up! set and paired it with a new to me stamp set from Simply Stamps- Fear Not.

I incorporated the SketchSaturday #519 Sketch Challenge along with the As You Like It “Favourite Type of Embossingand Why?” Challenge and the Word Art Wednesday #340-#341 “Anything Goes”Challenge.

I tend to use heat embossing in almost every card I create.  I love watching the powder melt and love the elegant look it creates but I also love dry embossing.  This card has both types- see, I cannot make up my mind :-)

Just a reminder that The Card Concept is a bi-weekly challenge that has an inspiration photo along with a suggestion of design styles that you can choose from to create your card- Clean and Simple, Clean and Graphic, Clean and Layered, Shabby Chic, Freestyle Collage, Classy and Elegant and Mixed Media (or you can combine several styles for your own style).

If you have not had a chance to visit us at The Card Concept or visit the other challenge sites yet, I hope you will find time to do so- wonderful inspiration from all!

To create this card:

1). De-static a piece of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool, ink the floral image from Blooming with Kindness with Versamark™ ink, stamp onto the prepared panel, apply gold embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.  Create a mask for the flower, mask the image (once the embossing powder has cooled) and repeat the steps for the other floral images.

2). Using distress inks and distress oxide ink, tap the inks onto a silicone craft mat and use a water brush to watercolor the flowers.  Continue to add color and use water-based markers for additional color as needed (see the recipe below for the colors used).  Once you are satisfied with the coloring, spritz a bit of water and pat dry with a paper towel.  Use a gold shimmer pen to add additional highlights and color. 

3). Die cut the floral image with a pierced tag die (also die cutting another tag from espresso cardstock).  Split the espresso tag in half and adhere behind the die cut floral tag.

4). Trim a piece of white cardstock to approx. 4” x 5 ¼” and emboss with a woodgrain embossing folder.  Add a strip of espresso cardstock, wrap a piece of coral satin ribbon and a piece of knotted hemp twine over the strip (wrapping the ends of the ribbon and twine behind the panel).  Adhere the entire panel to a white card base.

5). Add the layered embossed tag element with dimensional foam to the card front.  Create a twine bow and mount onto the top of the tag along with an antique brad (I removed the brad points and adhered to the card with hot glue).

6). De-static a piece of white cardstock with an embossing powder tool, stamp the verse sentiment from Fear Not with Versamark™ ink, apply gold embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.  Die cut the sentiment with a pierced circle die and mount onto a die cut circle of espresso cardstock.

7).  Finish off the card by adhering the sentiment to the card front using dimensional foam on the side to level with the tag element.

Phil 4:8 "Think About Such Things" - A One Layer Floral Card

Hi Again Friends!

I wanted to share another One Layer/No Layer card that I designed using the Our Daily Bread Designs Shining The Light ODBDSLC274 “April Showers bring MayFlowers” Theme Challenge along with the "Simon Says Flowers” Challenge and the Power & Spark  “May Flowers” Challenge. 

If you have not had a chance to visit the above challenge galleries yet, I encourage you to do so- fabulous cards and so much inspiration!!

Our Awana club year ends this week with our Award ceremony, so I created seven of this design (each a bit different) for each of my 5^th and 6^th grade girls.  

We have had a wonderful year together and several of the girls have been with me for two years...I will miss seeing each of them every week and look forward to serving in Awana again next year - it is always hard to see the girls "move up" but I know that each one of these young ladies will be living for the Lord and that in itself, makes it a bit easier:-)

The design of this card is fairly simple to create- stamp the sentiment from Scripture Collection 9 (ODBD) with Stāz-On® Jet Black Ink onto a folded piece of Extra Thick Whisper White cardstock, mask the sentiment with sticky note paper,  stamp the flowers from the Fragrance stamp set (ODBD) with Stāz-On® Jet Black Ink (creating a mask for the flowers and repeat stamping), color the flowers with a variety of Stampin’ Write Markers and use an AquaPainter™ to watercolor and soften the markers.

Add the splashes of ink with the Smakin’ Acetate technique, draw a few lines with a Pitt Pen “B” Black Marker and finish off with Clear Wink of Stella®.

F4A315 Your Word is a Lamp To My Feet

Hi Friends!

I hope all of you are having a great week so far!  This card was designed for the Splitcoaststampers’ Free For All F4A315 “Reading Recommendations” Challenge (March is National Reading Month) and the challenge is to recommend a book...and I recommend the Bible!  

I also incorporated the Splitcoaststampers' SC581 Sketch along with the Word Art Wednesday #221 "Anything Goes" Challenge.

The verse on this card is one of my favorite verses- Psalm 119:105 "Your Word is a Lamp to my feet and a Light to my path".   God's Word is a Light to all those who seek Him and when you put your faith and trust in Him, He will Guide you along your path for sure!

My first version was a bit simpler in style:

Cut the banners using the Big Shot™ and the My Favorite Things™ (MFT) Jumbo Stitched Fishtail Banner Dies from Early Espresso cardstock and the retired Wellworn Designer Paper and Library background paper (both Stampin’ Up!).

First version: Simpler in style :-)

Stamp the sentiment from the Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBD) Light of the World with Stāz-On® Jet Black Ink onto Very Vanilla cardstock, cut out the circle with the ODBD Double Stitched Circle Dies (also cutting a circle from Early Espresso cardstock with the same size die), ink the lighthouse image from Beyond The Sea (Artistic Outpost) with Smoky Slate Classic Ink (stamping off the lighthouse image before stamping onto the sentiment panel), cut the Early Espresso Double Stitched Circle Die in half and mount behind the sentiment (allowing parts of the Early Espresso circle frame the sentiment).

Use a Sponge Dauber to apply Ranger® Tim Holtz® Old Paper Distress Ink over the edges of the sentiment to “antique” the paper a bit.

Emboss a piece of Well Worn DSP with the retired Finial Press Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder, trim and mount onto a piece of Early Espresso cardstock.

Cut all of the banner pieces in half (closer to the bottom of the banners), layer the banners with the designer paper and mount onto the card front per the sketch.

Cut a piece of Early Espresso cardstock with the MFT Horizontal Stitched Strip Dies, cut the die in half and mount onto the card front.

Wrap a piece of 1” Gray Satin Ribbon over the center of the Early Espresso Stitched Strip and adhere the ends behind the card panel.

Mount the entire card panel onto a card base (I used Whisper White but you could use any color since it will not show in the front) and mount the sentiment with dimensional foam to finish off the card.

After creating this card, I felt that it looked a bit stark so I decided to add knotted twine (upcycled from packaging) and a few buttons.... I tend to prefer this version versus the first one- which do you prefer?

Second version- addition of twines and buttons :-)

Parisian Postcard- Our Help is in the Name of the LORD Psalm 124:8

Hi Again Stampers!!

The entire world grieves with France this weekend as the details of the terrorist attacks unfold- our thoughts and prayers are with them during this time of tragedy.

“Our help is in the name of the LORD, the maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 124:8 and we are praying that the victims of this tragedy will be comforted and have a peace that surpasses all understanding (Phil 4:7).

As I prayed for France, I wanted to create a card reflecting that prayer, so I decided to pull out the Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps (SNSS) Parisian and Tender Thoughts stamp set along with the Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBD) Scripture Collection 3 stamp set and use the Freshly Made Sketches FMS212 Challenge.

To create this card:

Stamp the Eiffel Tower image from the SNSS Parisian Postcard stamp set using Versamark™ ink, stamp onto Whisper White cardstock, apply Stampin’ Emboss® Black Embossing Powder and heat set with the Heat Tool.

Once the embossing powder has cooled, carefully cut out the Eiffel Tower image.

Stamp the Psalm 124:8 verse from the ODBD Scripture Collection 3 images using Stāz-On® Jet Black Ink onto Whisper White cardstock, use the Big Shot™ with the My Favorite Things (MFT) Stitched Square STAX die to cut out the image, mount onto Basic Black cardstock and trim to create the frame.

Cut a larger square with the MFT Stitched Square STAX die from Whisper White cardstock, ink the retired Stampin’ Up! (SU!) Script background stamp with Smoky Slate Classic Ink, lay the die cut square onto the inked background stamp and press the paper lightly into the ink, lift and mount onto a piece of Basic Black cardstock (trimming the edges to create a thin frame).

Ink the sentiment from SNSS Tender Thoughts using Stāz-On® Jet Black onto Whisper White cardstock, trim and punch the ends with the Hexagon Punch, mount onto Basic Black cardstock and punch the Basic Black cardstock ends with the Hexagon Punch.

Trim a piece of retired Moonlight Designer Series Paper (DSP), mount onto Whisper White cardstock, trim again and mount onto the Basic Black card base.

Add the Scripture layer directly onto the card front, overlap with the larger square using Stampin’ Dimensionah.

Trim a piece of retired Moonlight Designer Series Paper (DSP), mount onto Whisper White cardstock, trim again and mount onto the Basic Black card base.

Add the Scripture layer directly onto the card front, overlap with the larger square using dimensional foam.

Add the fussy cut Eiffel Tower using dimensional foam (adding additional foam for the top of the tower), adhere the Silver Metallic Thread in the area behind the sentiment banner and mount the sentiment banner using dimensional foam.

Add a few Rhinestones to finish off the card.

I had a chance to spend some time this evening and decided to create a card using the Hand Stamped Sentiments HSSCC224 Color Challenge along with the Splitcoaststampers’ SC566 Sketch (I flipped the sketch upside down :-))

I hope you will have a chance to visit and check out all of the wonderful Design projects and other entries at the above sites!

To create this card:

Ink the Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBD) Scripture Collection #9 using Stāz-On® Jet Black Ink and stamp onto Very Vanilla cardstock.

Use the Big Shot™ with the My Favorite Things (MFT) Stitched Oval STAX die to cut out the sentiment and mount onto another oval cut with the Ovals Collection Framelits™ from Blackberry Bliss cardstock.

Cut the Blackberry Bliss oval cut in half, adhere the halves behind the stitched oval sentiment showing just a part of the frame.

Ink the retired Musical Score background stamp using Delightful Dijon Classic Ink and stamp onto a piece of Delightful Dijon cardstock.

Trim the edges of the background stamped panel, add the crochet lace and re-adhere the edges.

Add the strips of Blackberry Bliss cardstock to cover the seam.

Using the 1 ¼” Circle Punch, punch four circles to create the scallop design, place on the back side of Modern Medley Designer Series Paper (DSP) and trace along  the edge with pencil.

Cut the DSP along the traced edge and trim the sides to size.

Use the Distressing Tool to distress the paper, add Range punch four circles to create the scallop design (per the sketch), place on the back side of Modern Medley Designer Series Paper (DSP) and trace along the edge with pencil.

Hand-cut the DSP along the traced edge and trim the sides to size.

Use the Distressing Tool to distress the paper, add Ranger® Tim Holtz® Tea Dye Distress Ink to age the paper and use the Crimper Tool to crimp the panel.

Add the DSP to the front panel and mount the entire panel onto Blackberry Bliss cardstock.

Add the crochet lace to the top of the panel, adhere a piece of Delightful Dijon cardstock (stamped with the Musical Score background stamp) and add the 3/8” Stitched Blackberry Bliss Satin Ribbon bow.

Mount the entire panel onto the Delightful Dijon card base (also stamped with the Musical Score background stamp using Delightful Dijon Classic Ink).

Mount the oval verse using dimensional foam and add the Blackberry Bliss cardstock roses and leaves (roses cut from Blackberry Bliss cardstock with the Big Shot™ using MFT Royal Mini and Royal Rose Dies and the leaves from Mossy Meadow cardstock using the Martha Stewart (MS) Leaf Punch).

Add a few Pearls to finish off the card.

I had a chance to stamp this evening and decided to create a card for the Our Daily Bread Designs ODBDSLC252 “Anything Goes with Scripture” Challenge using the Colour Me..! CMCC86Challenge along with The Freshly Made Sketches FMS201 Challenge.

If you have not visited any of the above sites yet, I encourage you to do so- the Design Team samples at all three are fabulous as well as their challenge galleries!

To create this card:

Ink the Boho Cross image from Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBD) using Stāz-On® Jet Black Ink and stamp onto Whisper White cardstock . 

Use Stampin’ Write markers- Cajun Craze, Lost Lagoon, Pool  Party and Tangerine Tango to color the cross and carefully cut out (“fussy-cut’) the image and set aside.

Ink the verse from God Verses (ODBD) using Stāz-On® Jet Black Ink and stamp onto Whisper White cardstock .  Use the Big Shot™ with the stitched circle die to cut out the verse and mount onto another circle cut from Cajun Craze cardstock.

Ink the Chalkboard Fan background with Pool Party Classic Ink and stamp onto a piece of Pool Party cardstock, trim the panel and mount onto a piece of Cajun Craze cardstock, trim once more and mount  onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock.

Ink the Chalkboard Fan background once more with Lost Lagoon Classic Ink, stamp off onto a piece of scrap paper and stamp onto a piece of Lost Lagoon  cardstock. Trim the panel, mount onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock, trim and mount onto the Cajun Craze card base.

Emboss a piece of Whisper White cardstock with the Big Shot™ and the Boho Chic Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder, trim the panel and mount onto a piece of Cajun Craze cardstock.

Adhere the embossed Whisper White panel to the card front, add the stamped Pool Party panel using Stampin’ Dimensionals®, mount the verse directly onto the Pool Party layer and add the fussy-cut cross with Stampin’ Dimensionals®.

Add a few Pearls to the corners and the verse to finish off the card.

This card was created using the Our Daily Bread Designs ODBDSLC251 Inspiration Photo along with the Splitcoaststampers’ CC543 Color Challenge and SC550 SketchChallenge (using SC524 as my choice).

This card was fairly easy to create:

Stamp the images from the Our Daily Bread Designs Crocheted Poppy Circle and Crocheted Border onto Whisper White cardstock using Stāz-On® Jet Black Ink.

Watercolor the petals on the Poppy image using an AquaPainter™ with the Bermuda Bay Stampin’ Write Marker (scribble the marker onto an acrylic block and pick up the ink with the AquaPainter™), the leaves with the retired Lucky Limeade Stampin’ Write Marker and the background grid with Basic Gray and Sahara Sand markers.

Use the Big Shot™ with the coordinating ODBD Crochet Circle and Crochet Border Dies to cut out the images.

Emboss a piece of Bermuda Bay cardstock with the Big Shot™ and the Chevron Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder, trim and mount onto a piece of Basic Gray cardstock, trim and add the Crochet Border pieces.

Mount the embossed chevron  panel onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock, trim and mount onto a piece of Basic Gray cardstock, trim and mount onto the Bermuda Bay card base.

Use Stāz-On® Jet Black Ink to stamp the sentiment from the ODBD Scripture Collection I  at the bottom of the panel and add the focal image circle using Stampin’ Dimensionals® to finish off the card.

Happy Mother’s Day!!   I hope all of the Mothers are having a wonderful day being pampered by their families :-)

I had a chance to stamp yesterday and wanted to share a card that I created using the Our Daily BreadDesigns ODBDSLC237 Color Challenge along with the Mojo396 Sketch Challenge ( I  decided to flip the sketch on it's side- love the versatility of sketches :-))

If you have not had a chance to do so, I hope you will find the time to visit the above sites- they have wonderful Design Team samples as well as fabulous inspiration from their galleries!

To create this card:

Ink the sea image with Stāz-On® Jet Black Ink and stamp onto Whisper White cardstock.

Color the image with an AquaPainter™ and the ink from Hello Honey, Calyspso Coral, Marina Mist and Sahara Sand Classic Ink Pads.  

Use Stampin’ Write markers in the same colors to add more definition and color, spritzing with a bit of water along the way to soften the marker edges (be careful not to get the paper too wet since it will start to “pill”).

Use the Night of Navy Stampin’ Write marker to darken the waves and apply Titanium White Acrylic Paint to whiten the wave caps.

Use the Big Shot™ with the My Favorite Things® Stitched Rectangle Die to cut out the image and mount onto a piece of Marina Mist cardstock.

Use the Big Shot™ with the Woodgrain Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder to emboss a piece of Sahara Sand cardstock and the Fancy Fan Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder to emboss the triangular piece of Cajun Craze cardstock.

Adhere the Cajun Craze embossed triangular piece to the Sahara Sand woodgrain background, trim and mount onto a piece  of Marina Mist cardstock, trim and mount onto a piece of Cajun Craze cardstock, trim and mount onto the Whisper White card base.

Add the two flags to the corner with the retired Antique Pewter Hodgepodge Hardware clip- the banners were created using the Banner Punch along with retired Cajun Craze and Marina Mist Designer Series Paper(DSP) mounted onto the corresponding cardstock.

Mount the focal image to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.

Stamp the sentiment using with Stāz-On® Jet Black Ink onto Whisper White cardstock and cut out with the Big Shot™ and the Chalk Talk Framelits™. 

Use a Sponge Dauber with Sahara Sand Classic Ink to sponge around the edges.

Add the retired Hemp Twine loops to the bottom corner of the focal image and mount the sentiment using Stampin’ Dimensionals® to finish off the card.
