One Layer Butterfly- Another One for the Paper Players

Hi Stampers! 

I hope all of you are having a great week so far!   I decided to create one more card for this week’s  PP142 One Layer CASfrom Jaydee Challenge at The Paper Players.   Again, if you have not visited, take the time to do so- the Design Team samples and other entries are gorgeous!!

The first two attempts for this challenge are in a previous post and were created using the Straw Technique (not sure if that technique is the best for a One Layer Card).  I was not totally pleased with the results (I liked the foliage one better than the floral- the floral one is a bit busy for me since the ink smudged and I had to add more flowers to hide the smudges), so I decided to give it one more try :-)

To make this quick, easy “hybrid” card:

Using My Digital Studio (MDS), open a blank 8 ½” x 11” page and position the butterfly image from the Wonderful Wings Stamp Brush set into the upper right hand corner.  

Re-size and rotate the butterfly slightly to the right.  Insert the sentiment from Favorite Thoughts Stamp Brush set  a bit below the butterfly image- I just love the sayings in this set :-) )  

 *** Remember to position the butterfly and sentiment on the right hand side of the cardstock so that you can cut the cardstock and score for the fold  ***.  

You can print out two sets per one piece of cardstock- great for multiple cards :-)

Use the Big Shot™ with the Adorning Accents Textured Impressions™ Folder to emboss the right hand edge of the card and color the butterfly with Stampin’ Write markers – I used Daffodil Delight, Pacific Point and Sahara Sand (to add the shadow).

As an afterthought, I could have printed a drop shadow but I like to color so adding one by hand is more relaxing for me :-)

Use the White Gel Pen to add accents to the wings and cover the butterfly with an vval frame - I used a scrap piece of Whisper White cardstock that I had previously cut an Oval Framelit™ from the Ovals Collection.  This became a mask for the rest of the card and the butterfly was the image in the "oval".  

Use the Color Spritzer Tool with the Crumb Cake Stampin’ Write marker to spritz the area around the butterfly and add more dimension to the card.

Now you are finished!!  Quick, easy and to me, a lot of fun!

SUO69- Anything Sizziz! A Fishy Card for Dad :-)

I have exciting news- I am now a Design Team member at SU-Only Challenges!!    I love the diversity of the Design Team and am so honored to be a part of this creative group:-)

At SU-Only Challenges, we have a challenge every two weeks featuring Stampin’ Up! Only products- I sure hope you can come play along!

The SUO69 AnythingSizzix Challenge is perfect for a gal like me that loves her Big Shot™ - I could not resist using Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folders and Framelit™ Dies.

 

To create this card:

Use the Big Shot™ to emboss a piece of Pool Party with the Fancy Fan Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder and a piece of River Rock using the Woodgrain Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder.  Lightly sponge Soft Suede Classic Ink on both embossed images and mount both onto a piece of Soft Suede cardstock.

Also with the Big Shot™, cut the Apothecary Accents Framelit™ label from Soft Suede cardstock and emboss with the WoodgrainTextured Impressions™ Embossing Folder.  Add to the card front along the edges of the Pool Party and Woodgrain layer, punch holes with the 1/16” Handheld Punch and add the Antique Brads.

Use the Big Shot™ along with the Ovals Collection Framelits™ to cut an oval from River Rock cardstock and another oval from Soft Suede (for layering- both pieces can be cut at the same time). 

CloseUp of Starfish, Sand Dollar :-)

 Using Soft Suede Classic Ink, stamp the coral image from By The Tide onto the River Rock oval along with the script image and the fish.  Stamp the French Foliage splatter with Pool Party Classic Ink and sponge the edge of the oval using Soft Suede Classic Ink. 

Gently distress the edge of the Oval with the Distressing Tool, layer onto the Soft Suede oval (cut the Soft Suede oval in half and mount behind the River Rock oval).  Lightly spritz using Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint (mixed with 70% rubbing alcohol) and add the White Gel Pen highlights.  Stamp the French Foliage splatter with Pool Party Classic Ink.

Also using Soft Suede Classic Ink, stamp the Nantucket image from By The Tide and the starfish and sand dollar images from By The Seashore onto River Rock Cardstock.   Use the ¾” Circle Punch to punch out the Nantucket image and mount onto Soft Suede cardstock (two additional ¾” circles punched and layered behind the Nantucket image).   Carefully cut out the starfish and sand dollar images, sponge Soft Suede Classic Ink around the edges and highlight all of the images a bit with the White Gel Pen.

Adhere the oval focal image to the center of the card and add the Nantucket, starfish and sand dollar images using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.  Create the ropes using White Baker’s Twine and sponge Soft Suede over the “rope”.  Add to the card, looping over the Antique Brads. 

Stamp the sentiment onto Pool Party cardstock and add with Stampin’ Dimensionals® to finish off the card.

More "Straw" Cards :-) Two Different Cards for Two Different Challenges

Hi Stampers!!

I decided to give the Straw Technique another try for The Paper Player’s PP142 OneLayer CAS Challenge and the FM106 colors from The Friday Mashup!  

I have always struggled with one layer cards- I always want to add more layers and embellishments  but love the CAS style and will keep trying!  This time, I ended up creating two cards before giving up :-))  

  

If you have not had a chance to visit The Paper Players or The Friday Mashup yet, you will find fabulous designs and inspiration!

To create the first card:

On the 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" glossy card front, place a few drops of Sahara Sand Classic ink and blow threw the straw to move the ink around (remember to take a few breaks- you do become very light headed with this technique - I almost passed out- lol!! :-).  

Repeat with Wisteria Wonder ink and while the ink is still wet, gently take the side of the straw and move the ink around (like a squeegee).  Use the Color Spritzer Tool and the Perfect Plum Stampin’ Write marker to add a bit of distressing. 

Carefully blot the excess ink with a paper towel and while the ink is still a bit wet, spritz with Frost White Shimmer Paint mixed with 70% alcohol (heat with the Heat Tool to speed up the drying process).  

Once dry, use Perfect Plum Classic Ink to stamp the script background stamp and leaves from French Foliage - stamp off a few before stamping onto the card front. 

Again, heat with the Heat Tool to dry all of the ink.   Use the Embossing Buddy® to de-static the panel and ink the sentiment using Versamark™ ink.  Apply Stampin’ Emboss® White Embossing Powder and heat with the Heat Tool to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets:  French Foliage, From The Heart

Ink: Versamark™, Perfect Plum, Re-Inkers- Sahara Sand, Wisteria Wonder, Stampin’ Write Marker- Perfect Plum

Paper: Glossy White

Accessories:  Embossing Buddy®, Stampin’ Emboss® White Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Plastic Drinking Straw, Color Spritzer Tool, Frost White Shimmer Paint

To create the second card (it does look a bit better in real life :-))

Use sticky notes to mask off an area on the glossy cardstock.  Place a few drops of Sahara Sand Classic ink and blow threw the straw to move the ink around (again, do not forget to take your time so you do not faint :-)).  

Repeat with Wisteria Wonder ink and while the ink is still wet, gently take the side of the straw and move the ink around (like a squeegee).  Use the Color Spritzer Tool and the Perfect Plum Stampin’ Write marker to add a bit of distressing. 

Carefully blot the excess ink with a paper towel heat with the Heat Tool to speed up the drying process.  

Using Perfect Plum Classic Ink, stamp the floral image from Creative Elements (I had to stamp more flowers than I originally intended since some of the ink leaked through the Sticky Notes :-))

Stamp the sentiment and I added a few Pearls to finish off the card (not sure if this violates the one layer or not , please do not report me to the "Challenge Police" :-))

Ink: Perfect Plum, Re-Inkers- Sahara Sand, Wisteria Wonder, Stampin’ Write Marker- Perfect Plum

Paper: Glossy White

Accessories:  Heat Tool, Plastic Drinking Straw, Color Spritzer Tool

Again, if you have not tried this Straw Technique yet, give it a try- it is a lot of fun!!! 

I hope you like my attempts at a one layer card- they are a bit quicker to assemble than my normal style but truthfully, they are more difficult for me to create:-)  I prefer the foliage one a bit better- what do you think?

Imagine The Possibilities- A New Technique for Me!

Hi Stampers!!

This has been one busy week and I finally had a chance to create a card for the Splitcoaststampers You Can Do It Challenge #15- Straw Technique with Silhouette and the Just Add Ink JAI162- Add a Technique That You Have Never Tried Before and this is it!!.  

This is a brand new technique for me using glossy paper, a few drops of re-inker and a plastic drinking straw.  You need to be careful- you can get very light headed doing this technique :-)!!  

After reviewing the videos that the Splitcoaststampers YCDI Challenge (post #3853) noted as helpful, I  also decided to incorporate the colors from this week’s Create withConnie and Mary CCMC248 Challenge.    If you have not had a chance to visit any of the sites, I would encourage you to do so.  Again, wonderful inspiration and so many different styles!

To create this card:

On a piece of glossy cardstock, place a few drops of Summer Starfruit ink and blow threw the straw to move the ink around.   Repeat with Gumball Green ink and again with Midnight Muse.  While the ink is still wet, gently take the side of the straw and move the ink around (like a squeegee).  This will blend the colors a bit and then blot the panel carefully with a paper towel to remove excess ink.

I decided to add a bit more interest, so I spritzed the inked image with 70% rubbing alcohol, blotted again and then added a few small drops of Midnight Muse and blew the ink around the paper using the straw again (to create a darker "bush" image on the lower left hand side of the panel).  After this step, the panel was left overnight to dry.

Since the ink tends to accumulate unevenly around the edges, I trimmed the edges off and used the Embossing Buddy® to de-static the panel.  Use Versamark™ Ink to ink up the coral image from By The Tide and stamp onto the panel.  Apply Stampin’ Emboss® Black Embossing Powder, heat  with the Heat Tool and once cooled, stamp the background word image from By The Tide using Midnight Muse Classic Ink (stamped off once before stamping onto the panel).

De-static a piece of Summer Starfruit cardstock and repeat the steps above to emboss the fish image with black embossing powder.  Once the embossed fish has cooled, use an  Aqua Painter™ with Midnight Muse ink to add color to the image and the White Gel Pen to add the white dot to the eye :-).  Carefully cut the fish image out and gently bend the fish to give a slight bow in the center.

With the Big Shot™ and the Fancy Fan Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder, emboss a piece of Whisper White cardstock leaving a bit of the cardstock outside of the folder for a flat stamping surface.  Stamp the sentiment using Midnight Muse Classic Ink onto the flat surface and adhere the entire panel to a piece of Midnight Muse cardstock.

Mount the embossed straw technique background panel onto Whisper White cardstock and adhere to the Fancy Fan embossed panel.  Add the embossed fish with Stampin’ Dimensionals® and a few Pearls in the corner to finish off the card.

Chalkboard with a Flourish- Two Challenges in One!

Hi Again Stampers! 

Wow- this may be a first for me (three posts in one day :))!  I wanted to create a card using the CQC184 ColourQ Challenge along with the Create with Connie and Mary CCMC247 Sketch Challenge.  Again, if you have the time, check out both sites for wonderful inspiration!

 

To create this card:

Use the Embossing Buddy® to de-static a piece of Basic Black  cardstock and stamp the image from Flowering Flourishes using Versamark™ ink.  Apply Stampin’ Emboss® White  Embossing Powder and heat with the Heat Tool.   

Once cooled, softly sponge White Craft ink over the image to give the appearance of erased chalk, color over the embossing with SU! Metallic Pencils and add shadows with the White Stampin’ Up! Watercolor Pencil.

 

Use the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border Punch on a piece of Going Grey DSP to create the border in the sketch and adhere to the back of the panel.

Use the Big Shot™ to emboss a piece of Vellum  with the Lacy Brocade Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder and adhere to the Blushing Bride layer using Two-Way Glue.

Mount the embossed Blushing Bride layer onto Basic Black cardstock and add the focal image with Stampin’ Dimensionals®.  

Create the rolled flowers using the 1 1/4” and 7/8” Scallop Circle Punches (just punch the scallops out of the Blushing Bride and Whisper White cardstock, cut wavy spirals using Paper Snips along the edges and spiraling towards the center, roll from the outside towards the center and adhere to the small piece of cardstock in the middle) - see the Splitcoaststampers’ tutorial here.

Add the Vellum sentiment banner and Pearls to finish off the card.

CAS Wish Big- Two Challenges in One!

I decided to create another CAS Card for the CAS(E) This Sketch! Challenge #23 and the Hand StampedSentiments HSSCC157 Color Challenge.

                                                                                    To create this very quick, easy CAS card:

Use the Simply Scored™ Scoring Tool with the Diagonal Score Plate to score four lines onto Whisper White cardstock (for the diagonal lines on the sketch).

Using Island Indigo Classic Ink, stamp the sentiment at the same angle as the scoring.     Trim the scored, stamped  piece to 4” x 5 ¼” and layer onto the Whisper White card base.

Use the Blossom Punch to punch out a flower from Island Indigo cardstock-  emboss the flower using the Big Shot™ with the Lacy Brocade Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder. 

Also, with the Big Shot™ and the Little Leaves Sizzlelits™ Die, cut two sets of leaves from Lucky Limeade cardstock.

Stamp the medallion image from Lacy and Lovely using Island Indigo Classic Ink onto Daffodil Delight cardstock.  Punch the image out with the 1” Circle punch and layer onto a 1 ¼” circle punched from Whisper White cardstock. 

Add the punched medallion center to the embossed flower,  mount the leaves and flower onto the card front to finish this quick, easy card!

Pumpkin Pie for Christmas?

Hi Stampers! 

How about a Christmas card in April?  I know that it may seem a bit early but I have committed to actually making cards this year and I will need approx. 250 Christmas cards (I do not want to start in November :-)) .   

This card will be one of my April designs for the Splitcoaststampers’ CCC13 Christmas Card Challenge and I decided to use a very non-traditional color scheme from the Dynamic Duos DD48 Color Challenge and the FMS81 Sketch from Freshly Made Sketches (if you have the time, check both sites out- the Design Team and samples are terrific!).

This is a quick, easy CAS card:

                                                                                               

Ink the tree image using Pumpkin Pie Classic Ink and stamp onto Whisper White cardstock (stamp three images – one main tree image and two partials for the flower portion only).

Use the Big Shot™ with the Ovals Collection Framelits™ to cut out the main tree image and also cut another oval from Pumpkin Pie cardstock (you can cut both layers at the same time using the same size framelit™).  

Also using the Big Shot™, emboss a piece of Bashful Blue Designer Series Paper (DSP) with the Holiday Frame Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder (I also used a Sponge to lightly apply Whisper White Craft ink over the embossed area).

Mount the tree image onto the Pumpkin Pie layer (cut the Pumpkin Pie oval in half vertically so just a bit of the layer shows behind the focal image). 

Cut out the flower image only from the two extra stamped images and mount one onto the tree using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.  

Stamp the sentiment with Pumpkin Pie Classic Ink onto Whisper White cardstock and cut the banner with the Paper Trimmer and use the 1” Square Punch for the banner "points".  

Per the sketch, layer the Pumpkin Pie DSP over the Bashful Blue layer, adhere the sentiment and remaining floral image using Mini Glue Dots™ and add the Pearls to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets: Scandinavian Season, Christmas Greetings (sorry, both retired)

Ink: Pumpkin Pie, Craft Whisper White

Paper/Cardstock:  Whisper White, Pumpkin Pie, Bashful Blue and Pumpkin Pie DSP

OK, now I need your opinion- as much as I love pumpkin pie for dessert, do you think this color combo is OK for Christmas, or is it a bit too non-traditional?  If you have the time, please let me know (I have to make six more of this design and if needed, can change the color scheme :)).

Postage Stamp Quilt- Another "Hybrid" and So Much Fun!!

Hi Stampers! 

I hope all of you are having a great week so far!

I loved this week’s spring color challenge at Pals Paper Arts and decided to create another card using My Digital Studio (MDS) along with traditional stamping/paper crafting methods- so another “hybrid” card.  I hope you are not getting tired of these- they are actually quite fun to make :-)

  

If you have not visited Pals Paper Arts yet, stop by- they have a wonderful Design Team and many other entries for the week- the variety and inspiration is amazing!!

To make this “hybrid” card:

Layer the stamp brush set in MDS and re-size the floral images from Everything Eleanor to fit within the 1” Square Punch.  Print out onto Whisper White cardstock along with the sentiment from Hugs & Wishes (a retired stamp set but current in MDS).   This is another thing I love about MDS- retired sets are still technically current when used in MDS- how great is that? :-)).

With the two extra flowers, carefully cut by hand (fussy cut) and apply a bit of re-positional glue to the back of the images ( I used Dotto™).   Adhere the cut image over the printed image to mask the flower and create a mask for the "stamp" area using a piece of scrap paper and the 1” Square Punch.  Hold this square mask over the masked floral image and use Sponge Daubers with Certainly Celery and Marina Mist Classic Ink to sponge over the flowers.  Lift the mask off the flower and carefully sponge a bit of ink over the flower as well (I also had to touch up the edges of the flowers when I lifted the mask with the Stampin’ Write marker in both colors).  Punch the floral images out using the 1" Square Punch and fill in the sides if needed with ink.  

Use the Postage Stamp Punch to punch out four “stamps” from Basic Black cardstock and adhere the floral images.   Using the Color Spritzer Tool with the Marina Mist Stampin’ Write marker, spritz the flowers. 

Apply Bashful Blue Classic Ink to the En Francais background stamp and with the Sponge Dauber, tap a bit of Marina Mist Classic Ink over the Bashful Blue inked area. Stamp the background image onto Bashful Blue cardstock.  

Adhere the floral postage stamp images onto the En Francais background and cut around to create the frame.  Mount onto Basic Black cardstock and again on to Marina Mist.   Add the 5/8” Basic Black Satin Ribbon bow along the side and mount the entire panel onto a Tea Lace Paper Doily. 

Use the Big Shot™ with the Lacy Brocade Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder to emboss a piece of Certainly Celery cardstock.  Use the Large Scallop Edgelit™ to cut two pieces of Whisper Whtie cardstock and emboss with the Delicate Accents (Lace) Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder. 

Add the lace borders, and the strip of Bashful Blue (stamped above with En Francais with the Basic Black cardstock strip) to the background panel.  Adhere the focal image with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Punch out the sentiment using the Large Oval Punch and create a border from two pieces punched with the Large Oval Punch from Basic Black cardstock.  Add to the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals and adhere the Pearls to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets:  Everything Eleanor, Hugs and Wishes (both MDS), En Francais

Ink: Printer Ink- Black, Stampin’ Write markers- Certainly Celery, Marina Mist

Cardstock: Whisper White, Certainly Celery, Marina Mist, Bashful Blue, Basic Black

Accessories:  Big Shot™, Lacy Brocade and Delicate Designs (Lace)Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folders,  Large Scallop Framelit™, Punches- 1” Square, Postage Stamp, Large Oval, Tea Lace Paper Doily, Color Spritzer Tool, Sponge Daubers, Pearls, 5/8” Basic Black Satin Ribbon (retired)
