Vintage Old World Map- Handmade Map for Masculine Birthday :-)

Hi Stampers! 

I wanted to create a masculine birthday card to have on hand for my stash and decided to use the Nacho Average Challenges NAC75 Sketch and since it is a birthday card, it qualifies again for the Seize the BirthdayAnything Goes Challenge :-)

Again, I hope that you have had a chance to check out both sites- wonderful examples and inspiration from all!

I was able to utitilze scraps and a previously printed image from My Digital Studio (MDS) for this "hybrid" card (again, when I print in MDS, I fill up the page prior to printing and use the other images at a later date- the map was one of the "other" images from a previous print :-)).

To create this card:

In My Digital Studio (MDS), open a blank 8.5 x 11 custom page and insert the Old World Map image- I have this stamp set but again, since I already had this image printed and ready to go so decided to use it…

Print out onto Whisper White cardstock and color the map using Stampin’ Write markers in Pool Party, Pistachio Pudding and use the AquaPainter™ with ink from both of the corresponding Classic Ink Pads to fill in the areas. 

To antique the map, use the AquaPainter™ with the retired Tea Stain Vintage Stampin’ Ink (I dilute this ink by placing a drop in the lid of the Crumb Cake Classic Ink pad and add a bit of water). 

Cut the image into thirds (per the sketch), distress the edges with the Distressing Tool, hand tear at the top and bottom of the outer layers of the map to shorten them (again, per the sketch) and apply Baked Brown Sugar Classic Ink to the distressed edges using a Sponge Dauber.   Adhere to strips of Early Espresso cardstock and distress the edges (again, with the Distressing Tool and by hand). 

Distress a piece of Epic Day Designer Series Paper (DSP) by stamping the Off The Grid along with Gorgeous Grunge (splatter stamp and diagonal line stamp) using Baked Brown Sugar Classic Ink.  Lightly distress the edges with the Distressing Tool and sponge Baked Brown Sugar to hide the white core).

Mount the map to the DSP layer using Stampin’ Dimensionals® for the outer edges and adhere the entire panel onto a piece of Early Espresso cardstock. 

Stamp the sentiment and the compass image using Basic Black Ink, “antique” with the diluted Tea Stain Vintage Ink , the Gorgeous Grunge stamps with Baked Brown Sugar Classic Ink, Stampin’ Write markers for the compass and mount both onto Early Espress cardstock (use the Hexagon Punch to create the banner and the 1 3/8” Circle Punch to punch out the compass image before layering the Early Espresso cardstock pieces behind the compass/banner). 

Add the Vintage Trinket brad to the center of the compass and the knotted Hemp Twine (retired) to the edge of the banner and top corner of the card front. Adhere the entire panel to a Whisper White or card base of your choice to finish off the card.   

Stamp Sets:  Old World Map- MDS version, Gorgeous Grunge, The Open Sea, Express Yourself, Off the Grid

Ink: Printer Ink- Black, Classic Ink- Basic Black, Baked Brown Sugar, Pistachio Pudding, Pool Party; Stampin’ Write markers- Pistachio Pudding, Pool Party, Sahara Sand, retired Tea Stain Vintage Ink

Paper: Whisper White, Early Espresso, Epic Day DSP

Accessories: AquaPainter™, Sponge Dauber, Punches- 1 3/8” Circle, Hexagon; Vintage Trinket (brad), retired Hemp Twine, Distressing Tool

DD89 Soft & Subtle Birthday

Hi Stampers! 

This week’s DD89 “Subtly Yours” Dynamic Duo Challenge combines the new In-Color Pistachio Pudding with Blushing Bride.  Such a soft, pretty color combination reminds me of spring and with the crazy weather this past week, we could use a bit of spring :-)

I decided to include chevrons for this birthday card and participate in the Seize the Birthday "Chevrons and Birthday" challenge as well (if you have not already done so, click here to check out their Design Team and entries) :-)

To create this card:

Using the hostess set, Simply Sketched, stamp the floral image with Basic Black Classic Ink onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock and color with Stampin’ Write markers- Blushing Bride for the petals and Pistachio Pudding for the stem.   Add a few shadows using the Sahara Sand Stampin’ Write marker and the highlights with the Chalk Marker.

Use the Big Shot™ with the Designer Frames Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder to emboss the image (lining up within the embossing folder).  Carefully cut out around the outside of the frame.

Mount the embossed frame onto a label created from the Deco Labels Framelits™ and the 2 ½” Circle Punch (first cut the Deco Label Framelit™ from Basic Black cardstock using the Big Shot™, cut in half vertically (through the rounded portion), split apart a bit and add the 2 ½” Circle punched from Basic Black to cover the rounded part of the Deco Label and give it a bit more width).

Use the Big Shot™ to emboss a piece of Pistachio Pudding cardstock with the Beautifully Baroque Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder and a piece of Whisper White cardstock using the Chevron Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder. 

Cut both pieces to position onto a piece of Basic Black cardstock, trim and mount onto the Whisper White card base (the Basic Black layer hides the Whisper White card base completely from the front).

Add ½ of a Tea Lace Paper Doily and cover the edges of the doily with a strip of Blushing Bride cardstock.  Add the focal image using Stampin’ Dimensionals®. 

To create the sentiment label:  Stamp the sentiment using Basic Black Classic Ink onto Whisper White cardstock and punch out with the XL Oval Punch.  Punch two additional XL Oval shapes from Basic Black cardstock, adhere the two Basic Black ovals together spreading apart a bit so that the sentiment will have a “frame” and adhere the sentiment.  Punch a piece of Basic Black cardstock using the Mosaic Punch, cut in half and add behind the sentiment layer.   Adhere the sentiment using Stampin’ Dimensionals® on the lower portion and regular adhesive where the sentiment attaches to the Deco Label focal image (leaving room for the paper bow).

Create the paper bow- Punch two Large Ovals from Blushing Bride cardstock and use the Bone Folder to break up the fibers and curl the paper.  Adhere the two ovals in half and use a Mini Glue Dot to hold the edges of the bow, adhere to a small strip of scrap Blushing Bride cardstock.   Cut two strips of Blushing Bride cardstock for the “tails” and use the Hexagon Punch to create the points.  Add to the back of the bow and adhere the Antique Brad to the center (I cut off the brad ends before adhering to the bow).

Add the bow to the card front to finish off the card.

Ink: Basic Black, Stampin’ Write Markers- Blushing Bride, Pistachio Pudding, Sahara Sand; Chalk Marker

Paper/Cardstock:  Whisper White, Blushing Bride, Pistachio Pudding

Clean and Layered- Celebrate Banner Card :-)

Hi Stampers!

Here is the initial card that I created using the CTS61 CAS(E) This Sketch! Challenge along with the FabFri34 Color Challenge.  

I failed to create a Clean and Simple (CAS) card on this first try- I kept adding layers and it became a Clean and Layered card versus Clean and Simple :-) ….so this card does not truly qualify as CAS. I did create a second card (see this post) but wanted to share this card as well :-)

Again, I hope you have a chance to check out both challenge sites- inspiration from all!

To create this card:

Cut several 2” Squares from various sheets in the Fresh Prints DSP stack and layer onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock to create the mini quilt.  

Emboss the “quilt” piece using the Big Shot™ with the retired Lacy Brocade Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder.  Trim to a diagonal for the sketch challenge and layer onto two scrap strips of Real Red cardstock.

Use the Big Shot™ with the Stylish Stripes Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder to emboss a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  Add the diagonal strip (leaving an area under the lower edge unattached for the next step) and trim the edges to approx. 3 ¾” x 5”. 

Use the new Banner Punch to punch out little banners from various prints in the Fresh Prints DSP Stack- adhere below the diagonal quilted piece using Tombow Multi-Purpose Adhesive. 

Stamp the sentiment from Express Yourself using Real Red Classic Ink onto Whisper White cardstock, trim and create the banner using the Hexagon Punch.  

Add the sentiment layer to a scrap piece of Real Red cardstock, trim and punch the banner points with the Hexagon Punch as well.

Adhere to the diagonal layer and add the Real Red Candy Dots between the sentiments.

The way the quilted squares were arranged, there waas a bit too much Crumb Cake in the middle so I added the additional banners at the top to break up the color.

Create the additional banners using the Banner Punch and the 2 ½” Circle Punch (first punch the circle from Real Red cardstock, then re-punch to create the trim). 

Adhere the three banners, add to the diagonal quilted piece and add the Crumb Cake Candy Dots to finish off the background layer. 

 

 Layer the entire panel onto the Whisper White card base using Stampin’ Dimensionals® to finish off the card.

CAS Love You- Second Try for Two Challenges :-)

Hi Stampers!

I am in awe of stampers that can create Clean and Simple (CAS) cards and though they are not my natural style, I keep trying:-).   I love the CAS(E) This Sketch Challenge site and decided to try to create a card for the CTS61 Sketch using the FabFri34 Color Challenge.   

I actually ended up making two different cards- I failed to create a CAS card on the first try (since I kept adding layers) and it became a Clean and Layered card versus Clean and Simple….so I had to try again, thus this second card :-)

  

If you have not checked out either challenge site yet, I hope you have the time to check them out- both have terrific Design Team samples as well as the other entries!

To create the Clean and Simple (CAS) card:

Use the Big Shot™ with Stylish Stripes Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder to emboss a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  

Layer a piece of the Fresh Prints Designer Series Paper (from the Fresh Prints Stack) to the embossed background, trim and mount the entire panel onto a piece of Real Red cardstock and again onto the Whisper White card base (I popped this layer up with Stampin’ Dimensionals®).

Stamp the sentiment from Express Yourself using Real Red Classic Ink onto Whisper White cardstock, punch out using the Word Window Punch and cut the banner using the Hexagon Punch. 

Layer all three sentiment banners onto a strip of Real Red cardstock, cut the banner on the end with the Hexagon Punch and round the other end by inserting the strip into the Word Window Punch and punch only the inserted end.  Adhere to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.

Add the Rhinestones between the sentiments to finish off the card.

Retro Fresh Celebrate! Two Challenges in One!

Hi Stampers!

I wanted to share the card that I created today using CCMC288 Create withConnie and Mary Color Challenge along with the FMS121 Sketch from Freshly MadeSketches.  I loved the colors in the challenge this week and they coordinated perfectly with the new Designer Series Paper (DSP), Retro Fresh.

I do hope you have had a chance to visit both sites- so much inspiration!!

To create this card:

Use the Big Shot™ along with Needlepoint Border Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder to emboss both sides of a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock (I have two of this embossing folder so I could put one on each side and emboss with a single pass). 

Trim this panel and adhere to a piece of Tangerine Tango cardstock and mount onto the Baked Brown Sugar card base.

Cut the square piece of Retro Fresh DSP with the Big Shot™ and the Square Framelits™.  Before cutting the square, I placed the scrap piece of previously embossed Coastal Cabana cardstock over the DSP so that it would be on a diagonal and cut along with the square. 

Adhere the diagonal strip and DSP to a piece of Baked Brown Sugar cardstock and trim closely to the edge.

Use the Big Shot™ with the Heart Framelits™ to cut out hearts from Baked Brown Sugar cardstock as well as coordinating Retro Fresh DSP.  Layer the pieces and add the Pearl strand around the DSP heart on the square panel.

Create the small rolled flowers using the 1 ¼” Scallop Circle Punch- cut the scallops from Tangerine Tango and Coastal Cabana cardstock, crimp with the retired Crimper Tool, cut a spiral towards the center of each one my hand, roll up and adhere (here is a basic written tutorial from Splitcoaststampers). 

Cut a few leaves using the Bird Builder Punch from Baked Brown Sugar cardstock and adhere to the DSP square, heart and card front.  Add the rolled roses and adhere the heart, flowers and square per the sketch.

Stamp the sentiment using Baked Brown Sugar Classic Ink onto Very Vanilla cardstock and create the banner using the Hexagon Punch.

Add to the front of the heart using Stampin’ Dimensionals® along with a few Pearls to finish off the card.

DD88 Love and Sympathy- Roses and Butterflies for Comfort

This week’s DD88 “Bold & Cheery” Dynamic Duo Challenge combines Real Red with Island Indigo.  This color combination is fresh and bright and I think these colors are fabulous together (but I do tend to struggle with bright colors :-))

To create this card:

Using Island Indigo Classic Ink, stamp two of the butterflies from Papillon Potpourri (re-inking before stamping the second image) and the sentiment from Love & Sympathy onto Whisper White cardstock.

Punch out the butterflies using the Elegant Butterfly Punch and use the Big Shot™ with the Chalk Talk Framelits™ to cut out the sentiment (also cut another Chalk Talk frame the same size from Real Red cardstock).    Cut the Real Red Chalk Talk frame in half horizontally, trim off the pointed ends and layer behind the sentiment.

Use the Big Shot™ with the Modern Mosaic Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder to emboss a piece of Whisper White cardstock, trim and mount onto a piece of Real Red cardstock (trimming the Real Red as well).

Create the rolled roses: 

For the larger roses use the 2 3/8” and the smaller ones use the 1 ½” Scallop Circle Punch- punch out the different size scallop circles from Real Red cardstock, run through the retired Crimper Tool twice and “scrunch” by hand, cut a wavy spiral toward the center on each one, roll up starting from the outside edge toward the middle and adhere using Tombow Multi-Adhesive or a Hot Glue Gun (I have been using the Hot Glue Gun lately and loving it!).  Here is a basic written tutorial from Splitcoaststampers with the idea using Designer SeriesPaper- I have found that cardstock is sturdier and will allow more manipulation of the petals to give a realistic look…  After creating the roses, don't forget to punch out a few leaves from Island Indigo cardstock using the Bird Builder Punch :-) 

Add the sentiment to the Modern Mosaic panel using Stampin’ Dimensionals®, using adhesive of your choice (I used the Hot Glue Gun again :-)) proceed to add the leaves, follow with the rolled roses and add the butterflies last.   Adhere the entire panel onto the Whisper White card base using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.  

Add the Pearls to the bodies of the butterflies to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets:  Papillon Potpourri, Love & Sympathy

Ink: Island Indigo

Paper/Cardstock:  Whisper White, Real Red, Island Indigo

Victorian Roses for a Wonderful Friend!

Hi Again Stampers! 

I hope all of you are having a great week so far!  I had the pleasure of spending my day with two wonderful friends celebrating a belated birthday for one and creating a card together (I cannot think of a better way to spend time with friends :-))

I wanted to take a moment to share her birthday card and matching gift that I had created- both were designed using the colors from this week’s CQC226 ColourQChallenge , the card also incorporated the STS#12 Sketch from Seize the Sketch and the coordinating gift qualifies for the Stampin’ Royalty SR212 “Anything But A Card Challenge”.  

The colors looked so soft and feminine, I just had to create more paper roses and since my friend loves the vintage style, I had to comply- lol!!

If you have not done so, I hope you will find the time to visit all three sites- I love their Design Teams’ inspiration not to mention the variety of the many other entries they have each week!

To create this card:

Create the rolled roses for the card using the 2 3/8”, 1 ½” and 1 ¼” Scallop Circle Punches.  Punch out two of the 2 3/8” Circles from Primrose Petals cardstock and one from Blushing Bride cardstock.  Punch out two of the 1 ½” Scallop Circles using Primrose Petals cardstock and one from Blushing Bride cardstock and lastly, punch out one 1 ¼” Scallop Circle from Blushing Bride cardstock.  Run all of the punched scallop circles through the retired Crimper Tool (twice for each circle), hand “scrunch” , hand cut a wavy spiral toward the center on each one, roll up starting from the outside edge toward the middle and adhere using Tombow Multi-Adhesive or a Hot Glue Gun (I prefer using the Hot Glue Gun with a Silicone Sheet).  If needed, here is a basic written tutorial fromSplitcoaststampers using Designer Series Paper- I have found that cardstock is sturdier and will allow more manipulation of the petals to give a realistic look…

Punch a few leaves from Crumb Cake cardstock using the Bird Builder Punch and set aside.

Use the Big Shot™ with the Scallops Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder to emboss a piece of Crumb Cake and Beau Chateau Designer Series Paper (both from retired sets of DSP)- lightly sand with the Sanding Block to bring out the white core and adhere to a piece of Primrose Petals cardstock, trim and mount again onto a piece of Crumb Cake, trim and mount onto a piece of Primrose Petals.

Add the Pink Pirouette colored lace (pretty but also represent the banner in th and the sketch), add the satin ribbon to cover the edge and the string of Pearls.

Adhere the leaves first and then the roses using the Hot Glue Gun.

Stamp the sentiment from Express Yourself (2013-2014 hostess set) using Primrose Petals Classic Ink onto a scrap piece of the Beau Chateau DSP, create the banner using the Hexagon Punch, add to the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals™ and finish with a string of Pearls.

Mount the entire panel onto the Pink Pirouette card base to finish off the card.

Paper/Cardstock:  Blushing Bride, Crumb Cake, Pink Pirouette, Primrose Petals, retired Crumb Cake and Beau Chateau DSP

Accessories: Big Shot™, Scallops Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder, Sanding Block, Punches- Bird Builder, Hexagon,  2 3/8”, 1 ½” and 1 ¼” Scallop Circle, Crochet Lace (from my stash), 5/8” Satin Ribbon (from my stash), retired Crimper Tool, Pearls, Hot Glue Gun (optional)

Can you tell the mistake I made on the card?  I accidentally mounted the lower Crumb Cake portion upside down…oops!!  Too late to change now- lol!!

The coordinating gift was a battery operated Vanilla scented wax candle- using the Hot Glue Gun, I added the lace around the candle and created the larger roses using Primrose Petals cardstock and the Big Shot™ with the new Spiral Floral Originals™ Die.  Again, the same steps were taken as with the punched flowers – crimp, “scrunch” and roll (you do not need to cut with the new die- yea!!).  I also created a few of the smaller roses with the 2 3/8” Scallop Circle Punch and used the Bird Builder Punch for the leaves.

My friend seemed to enjoy the gifts and I know I had a great time making them for her!!  Now, I will have to make a few more for some of my other friends and maybe one for me

SUO89 Always Cherish Every Moment

Hi Stampers! 

I decided to create another card for the SU-Only SUO89 "No Layer" Challenge- I hope that you will be able to take the time to visit us, check out the rest of the Design Team samples and create a card for this challenge :-)

To create this card:

In My Digital Studio (MDS), open a blank 8.5 x 11 custom page and insert the Eiffel Tower image from Artistic Etchings toward the bottom right of your page (remember when you print and score, you want the image to be on the front of the card).

Copy the image and change to Smoky Slate- position to the left of the intial image and to the back.  

Insert the Heart Punch, reduce in size, fill in with Whisper White and position in the lower center of the tower.  Copy the heart image, reduce in size and fill in with Basic Black- position in the center of the white heart.

Add a Heart Punch image and enlarge behind the Eiffel Tower- fill in with the Howlstooth Scaringbone Chevron Pattern DSP- change the opacity to 40% and move to the back.

Add the sentiment from Chateau Bella- reduce a bit and copy the image.  Change the copied sentiment to Smoky Slate, move to the back and position to the left of the initial sentiment image.   Print the card onto a piece of Textured Whisper White cardstock.

Add the splatter from Gorgeous Grunge using Basic Gray Classic Ink and a Rhinestone to the middle of the heart to finish off the card.

Ink: Printer Ink- Black

Paper/Cardstock:  Whisper White

Accessories: Rhinestone
